  1. Hello, Say one has a worksheet / database of a Count of records. Can an additional columns be added to perform some simple math The file could contain hundreds of symbols with the record attached EXAMPLE Parts Count Columns QTY | Spares | Total Count | Type Qty = Count of Records with like types Spares = USER INPUT to add to the total Count Total Count = Sum of (Qty + Spares) Type = Record Field Spares & Total Count are Not part of the record I have tried a few ways to do this but none seem to work. Will this work or am I asking to much of the new worksheets in VW2008. I trying to keep this data inside of VW and Not export to Excel which I can do, but am trying to avoid Thanks in Advance Jeff Miller
  2. Hello, Is there a way to convert a copy of a 3D PIO to a 2D image in the PIO script(i.e. a hybrid Symbol that has a fill color in Top/Plan View)) Or is there a way to Call DoMenuTextByName('Convert Copy to Polygons', ? ) and avoid the popup menu of how to convert it (Hidden Line, or Wireframe). I'd like to get a wireframe version Thanks in advance Jeff Miller
  3. That's the ticket. I glad to see I'm not the only one reading / writing code on a Sunday. I was getting hung up with the FinSymDef function. Thanks Raymond, Jeff
  4. I seem to be a bit lost here. I have a selection of symbols (that have symbols inside of them),I want to count the quantity of a specific symbol inside of the selected symbols. I'm not sure how to traverse through the individual symbol parts to find the particular symbol i want to count. Believe me, I have tried with no luck. Any hints to this issue? Thanks in advance Jeff Miller
  5. Spotlight has a 'Convert to MultiCircuit' Command that might work for you. Place the two symbols into the plot as Lighting Devices in positon you want to display them. select both and then "Convert to MultiCcircuit". They should stay grouped together when moved, but act as (2) seperate fixtures for placing data in them. Hope that helps. Jeff BSL Productions
  6. Recently I upgraded to 12.5.1 I'm not sure if this caused this problem or not. When i do a redering now an Additional program shows up in my taskbar "Object Info - Render" The Vectorworks Progam remain in the taskbar also. If I attempt to close the "Object Info - Render" program the entire program closes , crashes. Has anyone else seen this yet ? Vectorworks12.5.1 (64620) Win XP Thanks, Jeff Miller BSL Productions
  7. OK I am getting closer now... BUT Can anyone explain how to get the user set values from the EditTetureSpace Function. I am calling this thru a custom PIO i would like to reset my texture from these choices. thanks in advance Jeff Miller
  8. GOT IT! Thanks for your help. Seems I'm not the only working on a Sunday. Jeff
  9. No but i will Thanks Petri. Can one get a string name from the LONGINT that is returned? Sorry if it's another easy question, but it's the 1st time i attempting to access this type of information. Jeff
  10. oops what i meant to say was maybe you CAN'T do this, but i am hoping this isn't true. Jeff
  11. In short when an object is selected the OIP has a set of panes 'Shape', 'Data', 'Render'. If a user selects a texture to apply it shows in the 'Render' pane in a text pop up. I want to get the field containing that name. texture := GetRField(objhan, ?, ?); I am trying to figure out the '?' in the statement. Maybe you can do this but I am hoping that isn't true. Hope that helps a little more Jeff Miller
  12. I would like to get the user selection in a custom PIO. How does when write the magic words to get the value from the 'Render" pane of the OIP that the user selected as a texture. Hopefully this is an easy one for somebody. I can get the values of the fields i have created, but this selection has me stumped Thanks in advance Jeff Miller BSL Productions
  13. I wonder if it will ever be possible to show a beam on an "uplight" in future releases? The draw beam tools is a great to to use before doing a rendering, to make sure the lights are in the right place. Jeff
  14. If I place a fixture on the floor and a focus object above (uplight) the draw beam check box produces an error stating that the "verical angle must be greayer than xxx? ". Is there a work-around for this error? Thanks in Advance Jeff Miller BSL Productions
  15. Are you using the Spotlight truss tool ? If so you need to edit the Hanging angle in the OIP to "rake" the truss.
  16. I too put the circuit name next to the circuit number. I developed two legends also. the 'Normal' one and one with the C-Name & C-Number reversed with 'alt' appended to it's name. I then wrote a little script to switch between the normal name & normal name with 'alt' tagged on the end or vise versa. When I see fixtures that are displaying incorrectly i just slect the fixtures and run the script. It took a little thinking ahead of time with legend naming, but this sure does beat having to flip hor, flip ver, rotate, etc, etc etc until the symbol text is displayed properly
  17. i have created a few symbols that i would like to use with the symbol insertion tool. I have set the insert options of the symbol to force them into a certain class. I have set the label legend insertion options to a certain class... BUT when I insert the symbol with the symbol insertion tool, everything still goes to the active class. Is there a fix or trick to not letting this happen. The only way i see to fix this is to drop the symbols as regular old symbols & then convert them to instruments. seems like a lot of additional clicking involved here Thanks in advance Jeff Miller BSL Productions
  18. it would probably be easier to write a bit of code to number fixtures based on a user click of the fixtures. I have written this in a crude manner, it seems to work for me. But this does require the user to click each fixture in the order he/she wants
  19. thanks for the info kevin It's okay to replace a "black symbol" with a "red" one though isn't it? Jeff
  20. I made a few "red" lighting symbols that carry their label legend with them. It seems that if you try to change a symbol in a drawing with a "red symbol" using the "Replace Instrument" tool, all of the information is not changed / updated. Is this a quirk, or am I doing something wrong. Thanks in Advance Jeff Miller BSL Productions
  21. I just updated to 12.5. Look like things are working BUT The text boxes now show the tab stops as little boxes. I have tried different fonts and the ALL seem to do that. Hopefully this is a quick fix or I have an awful lot of retyping to do Dell P4 Win XP Pro. Jeff Miller
  22. Hello, Since I am on a windows system and can't create my own resource file... Is there a file that shows what is in the resource file included with VectorWorks (the images) along with their ID number. I am using the new dialog builder 5 and would like to TRY to add a image or two to a VS I am writing. OR Are there (4) arrows included in that file (right, left, up, down) and what may be there ID numbers? Thanks in Advance, Jeff Miller BSL Productions
  23. I have been blessed with the chore of creating many different seating configurations. The "Create Seating Layout" has been a blessing to use. BUT. When asked to "Pick a Focus" in the Dialog, it would be nice if that were a "getpoint" function (VS Stuff) as opposed to the almost random placement that one winds up with. It's next to impossible to get different sections of seats to point in the same direction. Is there a fix or work around for this? Thanks in Advance Jeff Miller BSL Productions
  24. So does VW 12 take advantage of dual core or hyperthread when rendering? If not will it ever? Thanks in Advance Jeff Miller
  25. I am aware that i can edit/change a tool set icon to whatever I want. BUT, is there a way to get to the icons (.png) files that already exist in VW. It would be nice that when you are adding a complete toolset to a workspace that the icon (.png) follows along. Not big on drawing my own little pictures and would just like to use the resources that are already there... somewhere. Thanks in advance Jeff Miller BSL Productions
