  1. To NNA: In 8.5.2 (and earlier versions, I think) we could toggle through the various wall connection points (left, right, etc) while drawing a wall. This was a very desireable feature. Could you add it to your list of things to put in a future release? Thanks. PLC Mac G4/450DP
  2. As far as I can determine, this error message only appears when layer options are set to anything other than ACTIVE ONLY. In fact, when I print one of the rendered models after getting that message, it prints in wireframe even though it appears rendered on screen. I think there must be some way to produce a rendered layer along with other unrendered layers (like a title block!) and print it, but I cant seem to find it. Hope this is somewhat helpful. 3. Yes. I've also noticed and fretted about this.
  4. I agree. What would be really nice is if we could draw a hatch the way we like it, using lines, shapes, etc. and then the software would create a hatch from that...
  5. Donald, I've been told by people who know a lot more than I do to "NEVER REMOVE OR ALTER THE none CLASS". Because it is the default class for any otherwise un-classed objects it needs to exist. Therefore, I suspect that the trouble you're having stem from this. FYI the other "untouchable" class is Dimension.
  6. Sam, Instead of duplicating door & windows, have you tried "create symbol". Then you only need to do the creating once & can use that symbol in all of your drawings. Symbols also require less memory than individual plug-in objects. As for your other requests, I agree, and am still waiting for the real fix to many small problems. 7. Has anyone else noticed that many very simple functions, such as clicking a rectangle into a drawing or a simple linear duplicate array are TEDIOUSLY SLOW in 9.0.x? If I save-as to a new file name speed will increase briefly, but will slow down again within a half hour or so. There are couple other things about 9 that I dont like at all: 1) Text is still really funny and fussy to deal with. 2) The trim tool has still not re-appeared. PLC G4/450DP/HP DJ230
  8. I finally called to request 9.0.1 ASAP. I got it in about a week. As far as I know the mass mailing which was supposed to happen the first week of July has still not happened. Call NNA and ask for a disk. Regarding the error originally referenced above: I do have a physical dongle and still simply clicked past the error message. So far everything seems to be working fine. 9. Get as much RAM as you can afford. Then get more... PLC
  10. Yes, probably. As I understand it, no one makes a plotter driver for the Mac except them. Check with the plotter salespeople to be sure... PLC
  11. Here's the workaround: Stretch the arrowhead farther so that its BASE is where you want the point to be. It will then print accurately. Stupid, eh? PLC
  12. I understand from tech support that there is no downloadable 9.0.1 yet, and maybe won't be. I called on the 3rd to ask if CD's were mailed out when they were supposed to be ("first week in July") and they said "No" but if I wanted a copy right away they would put me on a special list and ship one out ASAP. While I don't pretend (or want) to understand the inner workings of NNA, this is just another little disturbing tidbit to add to all the rest. PLC
  13. I also missed "command-R" when it was replaced with the OI Pallette. Now I actually like the OI pallette but wish there was an easier way to toggle through (including into and out of) it. PLC
  14. Hi there. To my knowledge there are no predefined workspaces in 9 like there were in 8. It is rather easy though to create your own custom workspace(s) using the "Workspace Editor". See the manual for instructions. PLC
  15. Tring(?) Let's not miss the point here: We are all aware of how inadequately buggy the orignal 9.0 release was (is). Now that they've de-bugged it you're gonna switch? Out of spite, or something? Gimme a break. You know you're gonna try the patch just like all of us. And you know you're hoping it actually works.
  16. On a Mac, with most fonts, degrees (?) is SHIFT-OPTION-8. Some fonts are different. Check with your font maker...
  17. I agree! I consider myself to be pretty bright, yet for all the years I've worked with MC & VW I have yet to truly understand how to create hatches (that is without hacking around and getting lucky). Here's what we need: A hatch creation window in which we CAN DRAW the hatch we want, lines, dots, shapes, shades, whatever. The program should then be able to translate that into a hatch. It would be greater than great!!!
  18. Just for the record: I am now using VW 9 on three or four projects and, except for some really irritating but workable bugs, I am scaling, dimensioning, printing, etc. with no problems. Hint: do not try to work on older files (8...) in 9 until NNA fixes the translator. Other than that there are a few really bothersome glitches, most noteably in text creation and management, which I am looking forward to seeing fixed. PLC Mac G4/HP DJ230
  19. YES, definitely! After much frustration I determined that translating 8.5 file to 9 was never going to be 100% (at least until the NNA guys fix the translators). So I also am finishing 8.5 jobs in 8.5 which is obviously fine. ALSO I have a couple newer jobs which have been started in 9.Although there are many small bugs, there are workarounds for most and my output seems reliable & consistent. G4/450D HP DJ230
  20. As I understand it, this is a bug that will be fixed in 9.0.1. Many of us have had this, or similar, problems.
  21. When I first began using VW9 I was having some crazy printing errors. A couple things have helped: 1) If you have older documents, do not open them in 9 (at least until NNA fixes the translator). 2) If you are in 9, try one, or more, of the four new options found in the VW Printing Options dialog. I am now working on a 9 file, which I started in 9, and everything seems to be outputting fine. Hope this helps- MAC G4/450/D HP DJ230
  22. I agree, and add that we NEED a spell-checker (maybe VW could make use of a pre-existing dictionary?).
  23. FYI: In the PAGE SETUP dialog (w/ most drivers) is the ability to REDUCE or ENLARGE the printed output. If you play with this a bit, you will discover conventions (i.e.: 45% of "D" size = 11 x 17, etc.) that will allow you to produce a scale image of your scale image...P
  24. Actually, if you have an INKJET PLOTTER and an RTL (Raster Translation Language) PLOTTER DRIVER you can plot beautiful grays (or colors as grays!). If you need more assistance in this please feel free to contact me... quote: Originally posted by dac: Print monochrome should be an option in document preferences. Like many small architectural firms we only have a monochrome printer. We use colors to differentiate line weights on screen (very common practice)and we use a lot of grey fills. There is no easy way to print black & white with grey fills. Using layer colors is to cumbersome(one fill shade per layer). Am I missing something? Will this be available in the next release?
  25. Is there any development under way that utilizes the (newish) MAC DUAL PROC.? Just Curious...
