  1. Vectorscript should have some means to determine which parameter of a plug-in object has been last modified by the user. Imagine a plugin with interdependent parameters. For instance: Top - Bottom - Height. Currently this makes no sense. Only two of them can accept user input and the third is calculated by the script. If the script can retrieve which one was last modified, all three can accept user input. For instance: If LastChange(Top) then recalculate Height If LastChange(Bottom) then recalculate Height If LastChange(Height) then recalculate Top DrawTheNewObject
  2. The OS 9 ppd works just fine for the OS X print center. The Designjet 755CM prints from OS X as expected, without any workarounds. I did a test with some drawings, but I am still in OS 9 for everyday use, so long term experience is missing.
  3. The 755CM is great machine. My 755 works since 6 years without a single problem. It is in use every day and has produced thousands of drawings. Since the 755CM is a postscript printer it does not need a special driver in Classic MacOS. It only needs a ppd file which tells the apple laserwriter driver which capabilities the printer has. (page sizes, color, etc.) I think the same is true for OSX. HP does not translate this simple little file to OSX for marketing reasons, in order to get us to buy new plotters. However HP is not a software company. It has produced the worst software I have ever seen. My OfficeJet G85 is almost unusable because of the badly written HP drivers. Missing printer support for the 755CM is one of the reasons I did not yet upgrade to OSX, but I am very interested to solve this problem. In my experience most printers are not very picky in regard to the ppd files used. Perhaps you could try to use the Designjet 800 ppd or you could use the Classic OS 755 ppd. Good luck!
  4. Excellent Idea! With Archicad and Autocad using GDL Objects and pushing them as new industry standard Vectorworks would need to support GDL sooner or later. Join them, if you cant beat them. (by making Vectorscript an industry standard )
  5. Why do you want to replace the 750c? I have an 755cm (which is essentially the same machine plus hardware postscript RIP and extra memory) and it is a real workhorse, plotting since 4 years almost 8 hours a day without a single problem (knock on wood). I suggest that you buy the hardware RIP an some extra memory for it.
  6. We are currently discussing streamlining the user interface at: http://peach.ease.lsoft.com/archives/vectorworks-l.html
  7. The sun does not belong into the drawing area. The sun should be a property of the layer, just like layer ambient. It should be permanetly controlled by the "Set Sun Position..." dialog. This dialog should not create a directional light - and then loose control of it. You can individually render each layer and still create layer links without getting all directional lights from those layers into the linked model. Those people who like the current behaviour can still place directional lights. Thomas Wagensommerer
  8. I would like to suggest a "Save a copy..." menu item for VW 9. You could then save a backup copy under a different name and stay in the main file, whose name remains unchanged.
  9. I wish the x, y, delta x, delta y input fields were visible in the object info palette, when editing dimensions. Sometimes I draw dimensions prior to everything else in the drawing. (a kind of special grid) Sometimes I notice that something is drawn incorrectly when dimensioning it. We could change the dimension and then snap the object to the leader line. Example palette: (I hope this works)
  10. Althogh this is a minor item: It would be nice if linear and area units could be defined separately. We in continental europe could have cm and m2 as our units.
  11. The "angle between 2 planes" method would be the right approach. This was discussed before and I hope this is in the work for VW9.
  12. I must come back to this issue: This is the no 1 wish item. Please fix this before doing anything else. We all know vectorworks is superior, but the other CAD folks will laugh at us until basic wall joins (and corner windows) are possible. I stopped recommending VW because of this. Just now I have the opportunity to recommend something to our 40-seat senior partnership.
  13. I ll second that: Layers and classes should be palettes. And: Perfect palettes should behave the way they do in Photohop. In Photoshop you can move the tabs between palettes and tear them out of in order to create a new individual palette.
  14. The enter key should move the focus out of the object info palette. The tab key should move the focus into the next field. This is standard behaviour in many programs.
  15. I strongly support this posting! VW cant be taken seriously when it is not possible to achieve even the most basic wall-joins. Please make a Join Wall Tool that really works!
  16. I would like to suggest a new type of PIO that accepts other objects as parameter. Think of this PIO to work just like the floor..., extrude... or similar commands. This PIO type has a script, a menu item named "Create... " and parameters displayed in the object info palette. 1. Select an object 2. Select the "Create my pio..." menu item 3. A dialog appears, similar to the standard dialog which is invoked when a pio is created the first time. 4. Now it is up to the pio script to check if valid drawing objects are selected and what to do with them. 5. The parameters of the PIO object can then be edited via object info palette. Now the interesting part: 6. You should be able to edit the original objects via "Edit Group" menu. What do you think of it? Perhaps this could make it into VW9? A propos: floor... extrude... and similar commands. It would be very helpful if the "show others" option were present, so you could see the walls when editing the floors. Is there a technical reason why this is missing? Or am I missing something?
