  1. I'd like to see the Replace with Symbol command make it into Fundamentals or at least Architect. It could be huge when placing stair parts symbols.
  2. Over 250 2D and 3D stair symbols for VW. Posts, balusters, elevations and metal balusters and posts. Check it out here: http://www.newenglandstairworks.com
  3. Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know there is now an extensive library of stair symbols available for VW . Turned posts, box newels, balusters (fluted, plain, tapered top and block top), Elevations, metal balusters and posts too! Highly detailed and industry standard sizes. http://www.newenglandstairworks.com
  4. Is it me or is there no way trim a line or object to a break line. The trim tool doesn't seem to recognize the break line tool as an object. Is it because it's considered a plug in object?
  5. If you want to insert a symbol using the attributes in the active class, right click on the symbol/edit/symbol options. In the dialog box, assign to: (check) active class.
  6. If you know one of the radii and the rough width of the stair I can show you how to lay it out in VW in a few steps(no pun intended...) Imac, VW Arch w/ RW 2011 Steve Mac www.NewEnglandStairWorks.com
  7. A little late but... It would help to know: stair radius, inside or out or both stair width min tread run (by code) I would make the face of the lower landing tangent with the curved section of stair, otherwise that landing is very awkward. Not hard to build once is is drawn correctly.
  8. what about using the sweep command?
  9. John, I use AC in addition to VW so I can read client files and I know how easy AC can be when it comes to selecting objects. Try using the lasso tool and holding down the shift + ctrl key. All you need to do is pass through any part of an object and it will add to your selection the more objects you pass through.
  10. So in other words, in order for me to be able to read up on anything, I have to have a computer tied to me. Sorry, but I actually like to read things on paper once in a while.Yeh, welcome to 2006 where people still go to Barnes and Noble to buy what? Oh yeh, BOOKS!
  11. I find it insulting that beeing a VW user of 7 years plus, paying good money for upgrades, and now I have to PAY for a written manual? What's next?
  12. Forgive me, but I have been a loyal user and supporter of VW for 7 years plus, paying pretty good money for upgrades over the years and I find it rather insulting that I have to pay for a printed version of the VW manual.Having to scroll through hundreds of pages on screen may be convenient for some, but I rely on the manual for quick references that I can bookmark. Very disappointed
  13. It would save a lot of time changing layer and classes afterwards.
  14. I find the trim tool to be one that should be repeated as well. Once you click away from your object, you have to start over. I think these items as well as other wish list items like Duplicate Array w/ Z height would be far more beneficial to VW users rather than human figures. I can get POSER to do that.Give me practical tools I can use and go back and fix what's already there. I can do without the bells and whistles.
  15. I also have a Designjet 430 used with Win XP. I plot full scale drawings of stair parts but VW will only plot up to a certain length. usually around 90" at the most. anything longer than that, when I hit OK to print it, it doesn't respond. My other question is, am I the only one that can't get a print preview in VW?
  16. Thanks Mike. I'm getting closer. I tried your suggestion. The original tread at the bottom ended up one riser below the top tread (in elevation) and the treads in between had to be raised by one rise. What did I do wrong? started with one tapered tread used duplicate aray (circular)counterclockwise duplicates are on the ground plane selected the last duplicated tread switched to front elevation moved tread Z-height to 35" (5 risers) selected Align/Dist 3D "ground plane" in the z column chose "distribute","spacing" any thoughts? could email steps taken in VW file if need be. Thanks again, Steve Mac
  17. I've never written anything in Vectorscript. Is this something I would need to know how to use in order to make that happen?
  18. This is similar to a question I have about using the circular duplicate array with a Z Height. I'm trying to duplicate curved stair treads and for each duplicate, the Z Height can be set to the riser height (i.e. 7")It's for a radius stair but not as tight a radius as a spiral. I realize there is a stair tool, but these are custom stairs. Any plug-ins out there??? VW12 Arch/RW
  19. Thanks Mike but maybe I wasn't quite specific enough. The treads I'm trying to duplicate are in a CIRCULAR array. Any thoughts?
  20. When we design custom stairs in 3D, it would be great to duplicate stair treads without having to manually move each duplicated object to its individual riser height. Very time consuming.Could be useful for many applications. Is there a plug-in out there that I'm not aware of. Thank you in advance. (Win XP, Arch12+RW )
