  1. hi everybody, how do you organize your files in bigger projects? until now we worked with one file per building containing all floor plans, sections, elevations and so on. but the problem is that only one person can work on it at a time. In further process I guess we have to split the files up and reference the layers of the drawings into each other. my collegues used to work with autocad and microstation. they suggest to have one file per layer. so there is one layer to work on and the other are referenced in? Is this the way to go? I guess we sometimes will get into the problem of maximum 8 drawings open at a time this way. best regards marek
  2. hello, my experience is that when I export a drawing from vectorworks to dwg, and I open it in illustrator, all hatches will be wrong and wall joints doesn't show correctly. but it would be interesting to know how to make it work correctly. when I export to .eps my experience is that the line weights are too thin. I have used many hours and I found .ps the only way to go. best regards marek
  3. hello, I think the only reliable way to communicate your drawing with illustrator or so is to save it as a postscript file from the print dialog box and then convert the ps-file to pdf in the application preview. all pdf- and eps- and dwg- export from vw has major bugs such as lineweight or hatch mistakes. good luck, marek
  4. we use a lot of time joining walls. I will say the tools are not working very well yet. with some experience I can get the result I want to have if I use both wall joints and components joints, but for new uses it takes a lot of time to figure out what the tools can and how you can come around its many limits. the worst time killer is that joints which you have worked out once get destroyed when you change wallstyles or do other actions such as mirroring or so. the wall column joint is also behaving very mystical most of the time. I wish you technicians take a look on the wall joints and make them a little more intelligent and intuitive to create i wish to replace wallstyles with each other and the joints still working nicely. thanks, best regards. marek
  5. ion and christiaan, i get confused of all the percentages. the part of our server with documents to be backed up every day is about 15 GB. And in there is 7 GB available. the server in all is about 180 GB with 118 available. As far as I understand the free space theory, the explanation could be that the 7 GB free in our documents part may be to little to work with on our server(180GB)..? But then, there is lots of GB available other places on the server. I don?t think it?s the full explanation here. But thanks, I will keep the free space demands in mind. regards marek
  6. hi ion, there is 7GB of free space at our share point. our files are about 20 MB maximum. shouldn?t that be enough? best regards marek

  8. Mark, I would like to try that trick with copying in finder and force quitting vw after the "unrecognized file" message, but we are not working directly on the network anymore. this is a new office, we established vectorworks for four months ago. so we don?t have made any changes to our systems nor the network before the problems appeared. So I cannot help you with usable informations from that. best regards Marek
  9. hi mark, sorry, the macOS 10.4.4 is the version of my laptop. I am not sure if the server is a mac or a pc. I will find out tomorrow. But what about the crash down rate? I have a collegue beside me whos vectorworks is crashing down everytime he is moving or streching certain walls in his drawings. it?s eating our time(=money). workgroup referencing is possible with symbols, but when we reference mod-floor layers it is crashing most of the times. best regards marek
  10. we are running mac os x 10.4.5 typical file name: b1.mcd or:b1-080306.mcd Where:/Volumes/DOKUMENTER-1/SB_502/vectorworks/tegninger/bygning1/model Server://SOHO;MAREKSOHO127/DOKUMENTER
  11. hello, serious stability problems: vw 12 is crashing down about ten times a day. It happens whether when we are moving walls, when we are changing wallstyles or establishing workgroup referencing. I guess it?s crashing down just before autosaving because we always lose maximum amount of work. that bugs. We don?t dare to use vectorworks workgroup referencing anymore because it is causing crashdown 4 out of 5 times. File sizes are below 20 MB. We are working on dual G5 Powermacs and new G4 Powerbooks, so that shouldn?t be the problem Another issue: We used to work directly on the files on our office network. But once in a while Vectorworks is saving the file as a corrupt zero KB file. trying to open the file it is saying "This is an unrecognised file. It may be a VectorWorks file created by a newer version of the application, it may be a very old miniCAD file, it may have been created by another application, or it may have been corrupted by a hardware or system error." the same as "Laurence_R" experienced: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=005873 we lost a lot of work and we contacted the local vectorworks trader. He advised us to work on copyfiles on our computers and then save them on the network because the risk of losing the file is to high. That is possible but it is a bug for the workflow. is it so that vectorworks 12 is not suitable for working on files directly on the local network because the risk of file corruption is too high???? do you have any solutions?
  12. hello, we have experienced the same as laurence two times. and we have lost two days of work. We got the same message when we tried to open the files. And the saved files were zero kb instead of around 10 mb. It seems like a weak point of vw12. Now we don?t dare to work directly on the files on our network anymore. it?s a pitty. It would be better if we could work directly on the files on the network. Any suggestions?

    stairs

hello, have problems using the stair plugin. i define its height by (upper) mod-floor 1 and (lower) mod floor 2. i draw it in the the lower layer (mod foolr 1). I want the chair to be shown in my view of the mod floor 2. without showing the rest of mod floor 1. how do I do? best regards marek
  14. I couldn?t figure out how I could go the ways you recommended. But when I created a section view and used the stack layers command the layers suddenly were positioned as supposed on top of each other in their z-values. so I hope it will work from now on.
  15. hello, i organized my drawing with the model setup and I gave z heights FF to the different mod-floor layers. problem: when I look at the model in front view or isometric view, all walls in all layers seem be in the same z level. and not on top of each other as supposed and organized in the model setup. what could it be? thanks marek
