  1. I'm on a pc, and have no IDEA what carbon lib is. I can tell you that I have had success now by setting acrobat for an 18x24 drawing, keeping the scale of the drawing at 1/2", and then having Vectorworks scale the drawing by 50% in the print setup box. I get a lot of extra paper, but I get fonts and my dimension linework isn't wacky. Which is another strange thing. Why don't dimensions scale with the drawing? I'm talking about witness/leader/hatch lines. They remain the same size so if you scale the drawing scale down, you get these huge hatch/leader/witness lines.
  2. I have no problem getting the drawing to output in C or D size using acrobat 5.0. It's just the text that won't show up. What conversion settings do you use?
  3. I'm building architectural models, and find the z height of layers a fabulous way to keep things neat and organized. Yet when I create a link layer to view all the layers together, that link layer doesn't update z height corrections. I find myself having to remove everything from the layer I want to reset a z height to, creating a new layer with the correct z height, and then creating a new layer link. Unless I'm doing something wrong (strong possiblity!) this seems like a really cumbersome way of working.
  4. I holeheartedly agree, that the layout of classes, layers, and sheets only serves to perpetuate the confusion about these items. Sheets are so essential to the file structure, yet their placement makes one think that they're not supposed to be used. I would love to see a sheets menu where the order of sheets can be organized; a save current button, that allows you to save the current look without having to retype the name; a window of layer/class/sheet stats that allows the user to know which classes are on what layers, what layers are on what sheets, etc. If these features were in the program people would be encouraged to make more structured and effecient files.
  5. YES! The combo of Vectorworks with a full scale database would be a fabulous work environ.
  6. I'd like to output my drafting into pdf format, but when I do I get these weirdnesses: My drawing is cropped to one side I don't see any of the text. Has anyone gone this route with success?
  7. I would love to see a script that updates the date on drawings as they are revises. Much like Word will print the date on every page, just taking the info from my computers clock. Of course, in VW it would have to update it and keep the date's text attributes (including position) unchanged.
  8. First of all, it would be nice to undock not only sheets but classes and layers as well. But I'm getting ahead of myself. All three of these menus automatically organize themselves alphabetically. I'd like to be able to put them in any order I want. Right now I'm trying to organize my sheets and have to add number prefixes to them to get them in the right order. Not fun if my sheet titles also have a lot of numbers in them.
  9. I'm trying to make a hybrid symbol, something that I've done before many times. It's a simple stair unit, that will show an arrow running up the tread in plan view. When I make the symbol, vectorworks "creates" a symbol, but there's nothing there! Also, with the same objects, when I group together the 2d drawing of the stair with it's arrow, the newly created group disappears!
  10. I find it convienient that I can select the active layer and class by going to a drop down menu. At the same time I wish that on that same drop down menu I could select visible/not visible properties of layers and classes. At the risk of overloading my screen with undocked menus, I would almost be willing to see an undocked, always present, list of layers and classes that I could alter.
  11. Not really a lighting question but definitely theater oriented. I'm setting up a multiscene, moving scenery file. To accomodate a revolving scenic unit, I've duplicated the scenic element and placed each on in a class to denote it's scene position. The trouble is when I have to update that scenic unit, I'm faced with the task of reinserting the changes into each class. Sounds like hell to me. Wondering if anyone has a better solution.
  12. I would love to see the same ability to tree sheets as with classes. Same goes for layers. Also a drop down menu for sheets would be great. It's hard to remember what sheet I'm on sometimes.
  13. I just finished my 3d model. Going back I changed the pen settings and solid coloring attributes for some of my classes. When I zoomed out of my model, I found the model surrounded by a bunch of wireframe cubes! I can't delete them, but they seem to be linked to parts of the model, for when I move parts to another level, some of the cubs go with them. What's going on here?
