  1. This site helps us when we do kitchen layouts. Most manuf. we use have the CAD symbols on there website to download. http://www.kclcad.com/modelsearch.asp http://www.kclcad.com/symbols.asp
  2. Maybe I didn't make my self clear. My spaces are on a class property line, taking the dash style from that class. Where two lines overlap, the two dashes look like a solid line. Typically when just using straight polygons, you can hide one edge, and solve this problem. The hide edge tool, when you dbl. click the space objet, will not hide the edge. See image. Thanks, Spinner
  3. I have used the space tool to create areas, and the line stile of the area are dashed. The 'spaces' touch, so the dashes get overlapped, and show as a solid line, where they are really two dashed lines... I tried to double click to edit the space, and use the 'Hide or show edges mode', but it will not hide the edge. It will work if I have them as polygons, but I need the 'space name' and such to show, and coordinate with my schedule. Thoughts? Thanks, Spinner VW 12.5.2, Mac 10.4.7, Architect +RW.
  4. I would doubt it would resolve if you had it on you HDD. I think (last time I used the training CD was V10) the CD contents are based in Flash and full screen. Flash is a really bloated, cpu intensive program. I bet if you take a look at your processor usage, it will be maxed out... Typically any web based flash stuff will do that, especially the larger on the screen. You comp. will power down before it gets too hot that will damage the CPU, built in protection. Keep the vents clear. Spinner
  5. It maybe the fact that you are using one serial on two different computers, presumably on the same network? Does VW2008 phone home and register a hardware address, or some other identifying feature about the computer? Spinner
  6. Folder Structure for each job... -JOB ARCH/STRUCT (holds architectural/struct file, Sect/Elev file) -JOB MASTER (holds all master info ie. title block file, master notes files, etc. These are W/R into the Arch/Struct. -JOB SITE (all site grading files) -JOB DETAILS (all project details) -JOB TITLE SHEETS (all title page, title 24, gen. nts.) -JOB misc (holds memos, and other non VW stuff. With the multiple files, it is a pain when PDFing, but it allows 4 or more people to be working on new job, arch/struct, elev/sect, site, title, master sheets, etc. Now W/R updates even if the file is open by another user. It always was a fun afternoon when we would yell across the office to have someone save and close a file, so we can get the changes updated by workgroup referencing.... Our system was setup on VW9 and really the only major changes in our process was with the addition of viewports. To be honest, we do a lot of work the old, saved sheet per page way. That is our method, which relies heavily on W/R. Cut and past is a no-no in our office. HTH again, Spinner
  7. We are by no means a 'larger' firm, but I will share our setup... We have a total of 6 employees, with 4 employees on CAD (VW 12.5.2, Mac OS 10.4.7-if it works, don't change it). Our Principal Architect does no CAD, nor does our Admin. Server is a Mac running Mac Server 10.4, with 2 hard drives, one for the Server system, user accts. The other is for the office use, the drawing files, memos, etc. Users are bound to the server thorough Directory Access, so they get all log on/user info from the server. This is called Network Homes. (home directories reside on teh network) This works nice, as we can move stations, and still have our setup (preferences, etc) available at the new station. Bringing on new machines is simple, and then any use can use it, immediately. This also keeps all data, both user and server, on a single computer for very easy backups of all data. Even if someone saves a file to their desktop, it is actually residing on the user desktop, on the server HD, not the physical machines HD. The client computers are only good for the applications and the processors. Using server, we share the Office HD (or portions) to the client machines. This iis through a share point, setup in Server, which mounts automatically to the desktop of the client machine on login. This includes libraries, details, and anything else we need to share with multiple users, including the VW Workspaces. We add the libraries/details to the VW Resource Browsers, and away they go... We do not use 'User Folders'. It is a bit hard to describe the entire setup, but this works for us. Mac Server also has built in options for remote log in, or VPN (virtual private networking) so I, or anyone else can work from home/road. Helps to admin the server from home, on the weekends. But since the boss does not see you 'working' while you ae at home, it is a struggle to describe how you were able to leave early on friday, because you put in hours over the weekend on the server. Personally, being educated in architecture, but having a love for computers, it made it a simple choice that I take care of the server. Problem is, this is all admin time, and then the boss sees your non-billable hours shoot up, then you need to educate your boss. Most of the time, the system just work great. I can get 8.5 hours a day into billable time, and very little time is needed on the server. But when something goes wrong, you are the one to get all the pressure, as then all your CAD employees are sitting around... There are people who are specialists in server setup, and they are worth the money, if you want to go that route, that is an option too. The moral, if you want to take on the admin of a server for a small A/E office, it is not bad, but it can be a large draw on your billable hours, especially setup, and routine work/backups. If you need more detailed setup info on the server itself, I can go there. HTH, but it turned into a long winded unclear post. Apologies, I need to get back to work... Spinner
  8. Figured out the class thing... How is the best method to have the AEC reference a balloon framed wall (2 story)? If we make the first floor wall full height, then our send floor plan will not show that wall as it resided on the lower level. Thanks for any thoughts. Spinner
  9. On a mac with VW 12.5.2, you hit the escape key, then wait a few seconds, then go back into wireframe and fix it. Spinner
  10. I have a project that I am setting up and have a problem with pages sizes changing while Print to PDF (through the print command) and Export to PDF. The model is setup with viewports created from render-works camera objects, rendered in FQRW. Page setup is 11x17 (tabloid scaled 130%) with the pages tiled This was done to essentially 'blow up' the viewports to nicely fit on the page. The Sheet layer has a DPI set @ 300. When using File, Print, Save as PDF, the final output size is correct (11x17) but the some of the quality of the rendered image (see white buildings) is poor. File size is 31.6 MB. When using File, Export, Export to PDF, we get much better quality, but the page size is incorrect (8.08" x 12.69") if you scale it up by 130%, will fit on an 11x17. This would make me think that the File Export to PDF option is not referencing the page setup, or something else weird. But the quality is much nicer!! (see the same white buildings. Plus the file size is 4.3 MB. Quite a difference. Thoughts on how I can solve the quality problem, or the page size problem? Mac Pro Mac OS 10.4.7 VW 12.5.2 Thanks, Spinner
  11. GC will view them, but they are a low quality, and flipped, (like looking at the back of the sheet). Problem with the PLT file, or the GC? GC version is 6.0.1, trial.
  12. We have some .plt files from a consultant (ACAD?), and would like to view them. Anyone know a viewer for the Mac OC that will view PLT files, or can VW import .PLT files? Thanks Spinner
  13. I believe you will have to compose them into polylines/polygons, then holding shift select them all, then there will be a total perimeter value in the Obj Info Pall. All lines will have to be composed for it to work. Give that a try. Spinner Mac Pro 2.66 OS 10.4.7 VW 12.5.2 Architect and RW
  14. Interesting, same problem here: Mac Pro 10.4.7, VW 12.5.2
  15. There is an anti-alising option. Under VW pref., Display Tab, select Quartz Imaging, then anti-alising. This is under a Mac on VW12.5.2, , so your settings may vary. For VW 11.5, I do not see an anti-alising option, again, your settings may vary. Spinner
  16. Have you tried the 'Show 3D Hinge Direction" under the window Settings, View tab? That might help, but I am uncertain of exactly what you want it to look like Spinner
  17. Check here. http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=84152&page=1&gonew=1#UNREAD
  18. I agree with the center line dim, to schedule method. On our schedule we clearly state that it is the Contractors responsibility to verify R.O. with manuf. This has been typical in our practice of wood frame construction. We do not want that liability of adding an additional consultant, (window/door manuf.) and verifying R.O. for the contractor to frame out to. Interesting ideas here.
  19. Have you tried selecting the desired option, then saving your updated workspace (edit, save, reload)? That may keep that setting checked. Just a thought, as I have not tried it. Spinner
  20. We have a similar problem. When you have a stair (set to get floor to floor heights from the layer heights), and you mirror it, or duplicate it, then delete the 2nd one, the first one is deleted also, almost like they are linked. Odd... Spinner VW 12.5.2, Intel Mac Pro 2.66 Ghz,
  21. We had this problem also and it was narrowed down to Circular x-refs, and that is why VW would crash. Katie was gong to work on a solution a while ago for me, but it didn't get anywhere. I had to go to an older computer running VW 11, that ignored xrefs, import, align manually, then bring into VW12. errrrrr. Here is the email I had from Katie regarding this. April 3, 2007 3:23:17 PM PDT "I think it has to do with the xref's in the DWG files. There are quite a few circular xref's - the same data is referenced in multiple files, which are also referenced, inside other references. The reason this works in VW 11 is because xref's are ignored. Any xref not bound to a file is simply ignored using VW 11. Since VW 12 can identify an xref, it will attempt to reference the data. When using circular xref's however, VectorWorks is sent running in circles continually gathering circular data. I will have time tomorrow morning to go through the files and provide a few tips for the AutoCAD user to "clean up" the file before sending it to anyone else - including other AutoCAD users. They too get sent in circles, only it's easier to repair in the native AutoCAD program. I'll then send the tips to you, as well as fixed files, which should send you on your way with working in VectorWorks. Katie"
  22. Thanks guys, good ideas. As for sketch-up, I believe you are referring to the Photo match feature? http://sketchup.google.com/gsu6vtviewer.html That was a bit more than I was hoping for. Maybe this should be a wish list item, but I was hoping to have the same texture control for a site model, as any other 3d object has, primarily, scale, x,y, etc. That would give us the tools to make this work, much easier. Anyway, I will keep fighting it, but need to work on the house that is going in the site... Enjoy
  23. Our office is getting a plan in order to purchase new computers, and I am curious if NNA would release any info on how 12.5.2 is working on Mac 10.5. (I am assuming that NNA has 10.5). With 10.5 releasing in October and generally new Mac computers will not run any system older than the one they ship with, we are looking at two options. Buying now so we can always run 10.4.X, and test 10.5, or purchasing later down the road, when 10.5 is ironed out. I know you are going to be tight lipped, but any indication that it runs at with no major problems, or are we going to have to wait for VW 13? to be compatible with 10.5. Multi-core capable with VW13? Thanks for any insights. Spinner
  24. I have a site model, and and arial image of the area, and I have created a texture from that image that I want to apply to the 'top' of the site model. I have applied the texture to the site model, and in the OIP, it shows as applied, but the model stays a solid color. I did a 'drape surface' of the site model and applied the texture to it, but since there are so many 'facets' it is near impossible to get the texture to align right. Also, when you update the site model, you will need to recreate the drape, and realign the image... See image I can apply a 'tiling texture' to the model, but in the OIP there is no way to 'adjust' the x,y, scale for a site model. Thoughts on how I may accomplish this? Thanks, Spinner http://www.craigrsmithaia.com/jobs/NNA/Picture%208.png
  25. So VW when it exports to ACAD files, it exports a .pat file. I cannot find a way to import a .pat file. Is there a way? Thanks, Spinner
