  1. isn't it interesting how many "work arounds" are required with this software to get to the results one would wish, even with what are common everyday architectural needs
  2. NNA quality control does not include checking to see if windows work properly in walls?
  3. Nice, I guess NNA can not be bothered by checking to see if something this elementary works before shipping.
  4. see if this helps. http://www.artlantis.com/index.php?page=support/forum/read&mes=6219&fid=atl_general_us I do not remember any automatic update which immediately reflects vw changes; you can have success on occasion with "file\merge geometry.." and file\use reference..." or else export anew from vw
  5. We gave up beating our head against the wall with RW back at version 12....went with artlantis and piranesi, depending on what look we were after. much faster with better results, which is important for those of us that have deadlines to meet and more than one project on the books.
  6. Has it been? I, for one, am skeptical of NNA published marketing propaganda. That question was asked in another post and I saw no clear reply that the 2008 screw-up was indeed corrected in 2009. I can not verify; I doubt we will update even one of our seats at this point...if we do, it certainly will be only one seat, just for the important wood screw capabilities ;-); twice bitten, thrice shy?
  7. no thoughts but we do now have wood screws to attach things with
  8. hah, i'm certainly holding my breath...and based on the "success" of 2008 with the old kernel, I can hardly imagine the improved "features" inherent in this new release...but maybe it is worth the cost to get WOOD SCREWS
  9. I know those new wood screws included in VWA are going to improve our speed on final documents by at least a factor of 10!

    VW 2009

nothing says faster equates to increased productivity... so maybe they have simply screwed up the few working portions of the program thereby requiring one to work 10-12 times faster to make a deadline
  11. we got that type of thing on vw12 prompting our move to artlantis, even with its quirks, at least you can get a render
  12. I have an idea, maybe NNA should have a focus group of architectural users and it can be pointed out that anyone using vw architect needs their walls to show up consistently.
  13. hah, maybe you could diagram this train wreck
  14. Jeffrey, if the new tool is, indeed, an improvement, either in usability or stability, I would be more than happy to abandon an old futile tool. However, as indicated above, I do not see improvements in general. Review your records, I have been a user of this package since before it was VW, in fact am responsible for us using this package in lieu of others. I see the same problems with tools that were in existence then, some with more gloss added to them on occasion but the same usabilty problems. Check the forums on the stair tool for one. I will add my compaint about the virtual uselessness of the curtain wall tool for any situation I have encountered. I have no problem with using a tool designed with preconceived notions of its use, (indeed different users have different preferences on operation of a tool- see the relatively simple issue of stair arrow directions posted in this forum) if I can get from A to Z without having to traverse the entire alphabet. Granted VW is inexpensive, but a very few hours of my time pays the difference in cost between this package and others, especially when you have to waste time with the same workarounds over and over, for say a month, a year....
  15. yes we are however, with all the repeated complaints PIO objects etc, NNA does NOT seem reponsive at all...some of these are ongoing for several releases. During conversation, face to face, with 2 of their representatives a while back I did not see them writing down one single comment from 3 of us regarding usability and workflow issues.
  16. be cautious how you use references, dlvps and slvps as indicated on my vw bim? hah rant posted today. the slvps and section vp overrides seem to be limited to classes utilized in the current file, not necessarily classes "imported/referenced" from another file...see if that may be your case...it certainly was in ours.
  17. LMS

    vw bim? hah

ok, so we have a relatively simple apt. complex...we put the units in one file for one person to work on, the Main building in another file for someone else to work on. Using NNAs "best practices" and input from NNA people who were here touting it a while back. so in the Main bldg we have dlvps referencing the Units file..fine..in the Main bldg we set up slvps for the plans, works fine we think. However, we have some classes in the Units file which do not occur in the Main, some classes we wish to view in section or elevation which we do not wish to see on the plans..... Go to a slvp or section vp and see if you can do a class override on Unit specific classes when they do not even show up ....THEY DO NOT. To get some to show up and not others for plan sheets, section sheets, etc., you must go back to the dlvp and adjust then hope you got them all for a given sheet type, do it again for other sheet types, etc. This is ridiculous, you can not tell someone just go plot the sheets, they have to do a major overhaul of the dlvps to plot each sheet. As much as we detest Adesk, it may be time for a change.
  18. the section marker lines also do not seem to work if you set to class styles. we set up a class for section, elevation marks, etc and set the attributes to class style...every time you look at a slvp the lines were gone, reset everywhere to class style and looks ok at that instant...tried setting in annotation of the slvp and was fine on one plan, when you set the class styles in the next floor, the first one goes back to null line....looks like NNA should just repackage one of their other programs and sell it as VW
  19. Thank you, I just wasted more hours trying to get section/elevation markers to show up in Architect. This appears to me to be yet another indication that VW has little idea what a decent set of CDs should contain and how to get there....how often would a section be cut and NOT be referenced on the plan. It is asinine to have to go to the section VP to activate the marker on the plan...that should be info contained in a more logical or alternate location, such as with the section cut itself.
  20. if it has been superseded, then why include it in a new release?
  21. thanks for your input, but that was not the problem, apparently if you create a symbol, with the name "joist" that over-rides the tool. now that i have renamed my symbol, it works....however it appears to be of no use if you are doing a concrete pan-joist, concrete skip-joist, or concrete beam and slab framing system, not to mention a concrete two-way slab with drop panels and perimeter beams. this is something that should be remedied if VW wants to be considered a player in BIM.
  22. when I click on the Joist absolutely nothing happens, nothing. I get no options to change, nothing. If I have clicked on another detailing tool, then click on Joist, the first tool remains active. the Detail Cut Wood adjacent to it works, as does the Framing Member Tool on the other side of it. 2008SP3, XP quad AMD, 3 gig
  23. has the archaic render engine been updated to a 21st century engine or is it the same slow relic of vw12? If so, what increases in render speed can we expect? What about multi-thread rendering in 2008?
