  1. We need to keep actual Z at DTM Surveyor level, Make all Building and Structures with every Story Z to be at actual Elevation and/or Send to Surface. This means the Datum must be set 0.0 (Z) = DTM 6750 ft as an example for Big Bear Lake property on Hillside. Any benchmark will be correct, all sections and elevations correct. Except this creates the same problem as making application internal 0.0 far way from Model 0.0 (Z) = DTM 6750.

There many instances when planar objects created on actual 0.0 (like Section Line instances etc) and in order to see them I spend time zooming (in-out) to send them to correct elevation visible for viewports.

So why VW allow us to set Origin 0.0 (X,Y) to anything in Georeferencing, but ignore to do the same for (Z) value - is a mystery for me.

    Any ideas?

  2. While checking University videos for 2021 Core Certification, I noticed color palette had classic standard names  but different color layout. It would be OK if the names for palette indicated that they were modified by editing the standard.  However since they have the same name "Classic Vectorworks Colors" & "Standard Vectorworks Colors" I wonder if anyone else can confirm which of the two palettes are really standard. Please see attache two screenshots to compare "Classic Vectorworks Colors":

As 3/4 of 25.4mm is 19.05mm, I would suggest that you duplicate one entry having 19mm. If you would like to show grain, I would suggest, you take one having grain, not any "Chipboard".

Yes, all the data is in metric, as internally VW is in millimeters. Decimal separator is a comma (,). That historical, as the German decimal separator is a comma.

I understand the need to add my first line. I just can do not have a clue how Texture and new material name is read by the program. I do not see my new line in the pop-up menu for materials and types. Please see attached and advise.

The material text files are in the program folder, in interiorcad/xg/XG Resources Metric/Materials  ("Imperial" instead of "Metric" if the XG Resources are set to be in Imperial mode.)

You can copy the whole Materials folder (yes, the complete one) in the corresponding place in the XG Resources of the user folder (as identified by Versioninfo), so that you modify the files more easily.

Dear Nicolas, thank you for your help. In my XG library for Imperial Materials the data shows mm and m2. Also I am not sure if for Solid Wood I can find the right Group in the table. None of items in the Material table has a group or texture I want to use. All I need is a "Test Material 3/4" thick with Custom Texture". What will my first line be listed here instead the Chipboard 04 ...

Textures and materials are one entity in interiorcad. Each material has a texture and a thickness assigned to it as well as a 'material type' So, we discriminate between  melamin faced, solid wood, raw, etc.

In order to change a texture, you must define the texture for the material used for construction. This is necessary to ensure that cutting lists are always up-to-date and no material can be assigned that is either anonymous or has the wrong constructive thickness. Go to interiorcad -> Master Data -> Boards and define your materials there. Likewise for edge banding and coverings/veneers.

On a second note we do realise that we are thinking too much like a joiner/cabinet maker rather than a designer and we think a future version might support double-clicking a texture in the Resource Manager and just pouring that texture over the entire cabinet, even before a proper material gets assigned. This is very much an experimental idea tough and not guaranteed to be implemented.

I am using interiorcad XS. In my case, what is the Path and how can I assign new material in >Boards ?

Go to your XG Resources folder and edit the data there. Program Files>Vectorworks 2021>Interiorcad>xg>XG Resources>Materials. Then in interiorcad go to settings, preferences, database, and chose the table to be updated ie boards, edgebandings, etc. I'm still working out how to edit door profiles in the latest version.test1.vwx

    1) In my version of interiorcad XS the Settings does not have preferences. Instead it shows Version Info with User Settings/Path to XG Resource, Datea with Version, Plugins Path and Export User Folder Path. I do not have Preferences> Database to shoose a table.

    2) Also in all XG folders the files are text files. What kind of file format do I need to create for Material to place here? All I want is to have a new Solid Material 3/4" thick without any edge bordering or veneer, to make only one texture and change it on a spot when the client demands, for the entire cabinet, provided I can also change the glass for framed doors.

In my document "Problem 1.vwx" -  When I try to rotate the North Arrow in a Viewport, it refuses to listen and points back to vertical position (North). Changing angle in OIP flips back to 0.

It works fine on Design Layer and on Sheet Layer. This happens only for Annotation in Viewport on a Sheet Layer.

I suspected that the Georeferencing is a problem. Tried to Reset it, uncheck it - doesn't solve the problem.

I started another a new blank document "No Problem Yet.vwx" - everything works fine. However, as soon as I opened the Document Preferences > Georeferncing > OK is activated,

the problem with North Arrow in a Sheet Layer Viewport starts again.

My real project document can not be recreated from the scratch, it has a month of my work.

Is there a way to reset Georeferencing to get back control of the North Arrow in a Viewport?

Hello All! Here are the rest of the Weather Analysis Tools I have been working on. These have the same caveats as the Wind Rose - all of them access the internet every time the network is run. These are also a lot newer than the Wind Rose, so there may still be some kinks - I would call these beta versions. Please let me know if you have any issues!

Is there any new updated 2019 version for all the above files? I downloaded the 2019 Wind, but can not find the update for the rest. Please advise.

  9. Thank you.

Attached is final look of two tables.

My old table is used for final print. Data follows your method and auto calculated in the first table above, then I manually enter the same data into old table for print.

    Last changes were:

    1) Formula for Column Category:

    =IF((B2=1289), '1', (IF((B2=1240), '2', (IF((B2=1290), '3', (IF((B2=1291), '4', (IF((B2=1237), '5', (IF((B2=257), '6', 'oops')))))))))))

    2) Formula for Column Image (without SUM)

    3) Format Column 'Image'

Format Cell - Images - 2D Attributes - Fixed Points

So far, I've learned that Site Model SnapShot can be UnGrouped. The Contour lines are separated. The total quantity of Polygons for Slopes in Triangulated Model was over 17,000. Every refresh of Worksheet took several minutes. So I decided to combine all polygons with the same color into one with Modify / "Add Surface" and then pay attention to total area, and if group is objects, not polygons, then carefully did conversion of few polylines into polygons. Final total polygons quantity became = 175, now much better and manageable.

I hope this will help other people.

Thanks to all forum users and special people like Pat Stanford.

  10. Thank you Patrick:

Very nice work, I really appreciate your help. Many many thanks, I owe you big time.

Please see attached, I wonder if there is a way to sort data in table, play with order of colors to match original table.

Maybe I can pull data from new table and show them in old table. Any other idea for criteria.

Is there a way to format "cell Pattern color" by assigning "FB index code"?

  11. I can't find a solution for this simple problem.

I use a Slope Analysis from a Site Model with 5 groups of different slopes each colored in different color. Having 5 colored slopes and not being able to tell the square footage areas for each group is quite disappointing. The workaround is to trace over in VW or use other program.

First method means that I use either 3D model top view or create a Snapshot and then in VW I trace over each colored zone. Very time-consuming task.

Second method means I need to use Photoshop or "Image J" programs with Threshold Color function to measure each layer area. But it requires applying a Scale 1 pixel = to whatever is scale in foot. The result is inaccurate.

    So my question is:

Is there any direct way to retrieve data from Site Model Colored Slopes into a Worksheet?

    Please help.

see attached example, a) site model with colored slopes, b) separate traced over in VW to calculate area and c) same layer in Photoshop to measure area

  12. "The Grade tool can help to create proposed slopes, swales etc."

Could anyone please give me a step by step overview of how to create new slope and swale using Grade Tool?

e.g. how to make 4 different slopes in N-S-W-E directions on a given site model, say I want slopes to be 4:1, 1:1, 1:3 an 1:2

The video on youtube called "Site Modeling and Calculations" shows the slopes

for case with Create pad from Grade Limits.

In my case I need to have an elevated rectangular pad, I do not need an odd shaped pad resulting from the command above.
