  1. Hi John, Try the following steps: Add a column to the worksheet, Toggle on the View Database Headers Click on the popup menu in the database header for the column Choose: Select from: Functions PluginStyleName Click OK and you should see the style names.
  2. No problem, Allen! I only knew the answer because it happens to me as well. ;-)
  3. Your'e welcome, Sinead! Having objects windup on another planet happens to the best of us. ;-) If things seem to be acting up with display accuracy, checking for this issue is a great place to start.
  4. Are all of the "Component" classes set to visible in the viewport?
  5. I have to agree with the others that Option 1 is the way to go. This is especially true is you have symbols containing objects in more than one class. It'll be better to get them all on board with this standard sooner than later. BTW: There's a "Set Default Symbol Class" command in the Tools/Utilities menu. This will allow you to set the default class for ALL symbols in the document. It does not effect placed instances, just the default. Just remember that it will effect ALL symbol definitions. :-)
  6. Hi Sinead, I got your file and see the problem (and have the fix): The distortion you're seeing is due to the file have some objects very far from the document origin. If you ever see this problem, usually that is the reason. Here's the fix: With the "Ground Level" layer active, use the "Select All" command to select everything. Use the Zoom "Fit to Objects" command. You will notice that you see what looks to be a locus point at the top center of the document and nothing else. That "locus" is actually all the objects from your model contained on the layer. While the objects are selected, notice the number of objects selected in the Object Info (172). Using the selection tool, deselect those objects at the top of the document by holding the shift key and click-dragging a marquee around them. In the Object Info palette, you should now see 2 lines selected. These lines are near the bottom center of the screen (2,480,043,659mm from the document origin). Delete the lines and the file should render normally again. Best, Matt
  7. Option 1 is what I’d recommend. You can edit the symbol options and have it automatically insert in the None class. I typically have all my symbols insert this way and only worry about classing the objects within them.
  8. The "Edit Group" command should work with both Roof and Roof Face objects. If you have trouble clicking on the hole object in Edit Group mode, click-drag a marquee around the hole object to select it. If you plan to edit it, you might want to use the "Send to Front" command to make it easier to get at. Can you send me the file privately so I can take a look at it?
  9. Are you talking about a hole created in the Roof object by clipping a polygon from the roof? If so, you can select the roof and use the Edit Group command. When you're in Edit Group mode, you should be able to select the clipping polygon (you may need to marquee around it) and move or delete it. Once you exit the "group", the roof will update with the changes.
  10. I opened the file in VW 2018 and tried the following: Selected both gable end walls Ran the Delete Wall Peaks command Ran the Fit walls to Objects command For me this fit the walls correctly. I also tried this: Opened you file selected the offending wall edited its components via the Object Info palette. Set all component tops to be "relative to wall" This corrected the issue. Do either of these approaches help on your setup?
  11. Try selecting the offending wall, click on the Components button in the Object Info palette and check to see if the tops of its components have an offset. If so, set them to zero. If that's not the issue, can you attach a small file showing the problem?
  12. You could set the defaults in your favorite template files. This would get you the same behavior.
  13. Can you post a small file showing the problem?
  14. Try editing the symbol definition and rotate the window 90 degrees.
  15. Set the "resource type" popup in the top of the Resource Manager to Record Formats. Right-click in the Resource Manager and choose the "Create Record Format" contextual menu command. A Create record Format dialog will appear. Name the format Click the New button to add a new Field to the format. An Edit Field dialog will appear. Name the field and give it an appropriate type and default. Click OK in the dialogs to exit them. Now that you have the record format, you can attach it to selected walls via the data tab in the Object Info palette.
  16. Have you tried using Data Visualization in a viewport? In the attached file, I did the following: In the Resource Manager, create a "Scope" Record with a "Scope Index" field. Use the Select Similar tool to select all walls of a particular style. Attach the Scope record and type an appropriate "Scope Index" value. Repeat this for other walls. This part is not exactly what you're looking for since you want the record and value to be attached to the wall style definition but it might suffice. Create a viewport and use the Data Visualization feature to display different Scope Index values with different colors. DataVis on Walls.vwx
  17. Yes. This workflow could be improved upon. The recommended workflow for your Andersen Window example would be to rename the Style (to something more meaningful) as soon as you import it. I'd like to look into ways to help promote this workflow in the future.
  18. The reason the catalog parameters are all grayed is because the catalog item is By Style. This means you need to edit the style to select a catalog item and all instances of that style will be set to that item. If you wish to have each instance to have the ability to use a different catalog item, edit the style and change the catalog item to By Instance (by toggling the By Style/instance button by the Select from Catalog icon button). This will then enable those control in the Settings dialog for each instance.
  19. Hi Christiaan, You are correct. This is a definite need. I, and a few others, have entered enhancement requests for this. Best regards, Matt
  20. sometimes I get lucky. ;-) You're very welcome! I'm glad it worked!
  21. Hello Magdalena, Can you attach a Vectorworks file with just the window in it? My initial (wild) guess is that you may have the Sash Depth set to a value less than the Glazing Thickness.
  22. I've attached some more information on creating catalog files. Please see attached PDF file. Catalog File Creation.pdf
  23. Samuel, Each row represents a catalog item in the excel file. You should be able to delete and add them as needed. When finished, "Save As" in excel and choose to save as a "Tab Delimited Text". NOTE: You may need to restart VW in order to see the new catalog data.
  24. Err... oops! I think you're right. Forget I said that. ;-P Thank you for submitting! -Matt
