  1. I do not find this new stair tool useable in any way. There must be a bug somewhere 2016 SP2 macbook pro
  2. I find the old tool better (which now doesn't work, slows down and doesn't locate properly) except when it's opened at VW2016. I resigned myself to recreating all the stairs, but the new tool is really bad and does not provide control of arrows or graphics like the old. It is also a problem to work with and has eroded time trying to figure it out.
  3. Grouping the viewports worked for me as well in 2016. A huge trick. You have to reconnect the layers through the viewports but as far as the classes, cropping, scaling and positioning, that's all there. And that's the real work.
  4. you're lucky, my id label is way off to the side of the drawing which is otherwise invisible unless the leader is selected in the preferences. I have to follow a 100 foot or so line to find it every time. I wish I too could figure out how to locate the id label where i want it.... like where i click on first to place it.
  5. One big change I noticed in VW2015 is that the default projection when you select the 3d rotation tool is a perspective. This works fine if you just create a single object in a new drawing, but when you have an extensive drawing with a lot of elements, switching to perspective causes the object to disappear out of the perspective viewing window. I am having to switch manually back to an orthogonal projection every time i want to go from a plan view to look at what I'm designing in 3d. Is there a way to reset the default projection to orthogonal or was this a top down design decision to make it always a perspective view? If so it is detrimental to the process of going back and forth quickly to see your work in 3d. hopefully I'm missing a setting or if not this is something which should be taken car of in future releases. vw2015 Arch,Renderworks... Mac 10.9
  6. I am laying out my drawings and noticed that the hellion graphic was appearing in the viewport. I purged the document and deleted the heliodons from the drawing but they are still appearing. [img:left] [/img]
  7. I am wondering how to change the scale of a drawing label to fractions. I have the units set to fractions and the scale in the drop down menu for the drawing scale says a fractional dimension but the display on the drawing is in inches. so 1/8"=1'-0" displays as 1:192. any thoughts. Also the scale labels often invert the location of the title and scale putting the label on the bottom and scale at the top. If I flip it twice, it goes back..
  8. Thanks so much. I knew it was something simple. Couldn't find it in the help menu though.
  9. I have been using this program for most of my adult life and like many have begun to explore the power of the automatic schedules. I've figured out how to delete rows and sort colums and even not have duplicate objects however there is a row in the door schedule which looks like it is a master row which has the formulas which control what is displayed in the schedule. This row is something which I do not want to display on the drawing. In my door schedule it is row 4 and all the individual objects are 4.1 4.2 etc. This row seems to total everything like door jamb thicknesses, widths etc. I don't want to put a white square over it. You can't delete this row because then all the subsequent information is gone. How do you not display it? I set it up through the standard schedule menu. Help please. This is the final hurdle for me to actually using this powerful feature.
  10. Thanks, I finally got the hang of the texture bed. If you retain the 2d poly you can use this for your plans and put in hatches etc. very nice
  11. I have been working on a master plan for a large landscape and have been modifying the site model using two methods. Either creating a 2d polygon, converting it to a 3d polygon, giving it the correct z height and assigning it to the site-dtm-site modifier class. The other method of creating a 2d polygon and doing "convert>objects from polyline" then selecting site modifier from the drop down menu has stopped working, even though there are some instances where it has worked within the same file. having the site modifiers as this hybrid object is preferable since it allows you to modify the site modifiers using all of the 2d commands, such as offsetting etc. it also retains the smoothness of a bezier curve (with all the controls) whereas the conversion to 3d polys makes the curved lines a series of multiple points which can't be easily reshaped. I was wondering what is going on here. Am I missing a step or is this just a buggy feature of the dtm interface? I am running vw2010 architect. Another reason to use the 2d polys is that you can begin to slope the modifiers to create paths etc. Any advice would help a lot. thanks.
  12. the difficulty for me is that the existing model uses the classes, but when I switch to proposed then it has no color and the fill attributes are greyed out. It helps that there are two different colors for the before and after, but I cant change the proposed color. I can put a texture on it using the object info pallate, but no way to change color.
  13. sorry for reposting this but I put it in landmark and I'm actually using Architect: I am working on a site with some curvy paths. I have scanned the survey and scaled it and have used it as a template. I have drawn 2d polygons for the pads and paths and would like to use these for site modifiers. Do I have to redraw them all using the site modifier or is there a way to paste a polygon and assign it as a site modifier? I'm also wondering what the best way is to draw an existing concrete path which is not evenly sloped, but moves up and down along the contours. Can I make this a site modifier as well? I was experimenting with a 3d poly which I inserted into the site model by editing the source data and inserting a 3d poly with different vertex heights, but I don't know if I'm asking for trouble by doing it that way since it crosses over the other horizontal lines of the model. I was also playing with the road tool, but this only yields a path which is of a fixed width. Idealy, I would like to draw a 2d polygon using the survey data convert it, send it to the surface and then be able to modify the verteces numerically, but this seems rather cumbersome. When the paths have curves, it becomes impossible since the curves are not preserved in the conversion from 2d to 3d but become lots of individual points. I'm not sure if nurbs can act as site modifiers or can be send to surfaces or if they can be edited that precisely. I don't want to risk having the model crash as I lay in more and more information. Thanks in advance
