  1. I'm pretty sure it is the Design layer with all the viewports for projecting the elevations that is causing the slowdown. Because of the nature of the project it has expanded and expanded to the point where there are elevations and their related details all over the place, bounded by thick borders. I screengrabbed the setup from two zoom levels and mousedrew (like a 5 year old) the various elements... I suppose a question is - is there any way of auditing the file to see what is causing the slowdown? I'm probably going to have to go hard on it next week to deliver a schematic set from it and am a bit worried!
  2. Hi All I might be making VW bite off more than it can chew, but maybe some advice is needed: I'm designing the schematic interior architecture of a 6 story building. All 2D Plans Interior sections and Elevations Details There are numerous classes retained from a half finished construction documentation set that need to be retained, as does the layout of the floors in their design layer. The plans are all working fine but when it comes to the elevations things slow down to a crawl. And I mean - 5-10 seconds between some actions. Elevations are projected from Design Layer Viewports, one clipped for each elevation, and a lot for the details. Is this something I should expect VW to do all in the same file or should I be organizing it differently? Machine specs: Windows 10 11th gen i7 11850H 32GB RAM RTX Quadro 3000 GPU (should be plenty!)
  3. Awesome sauce Rick I'll have a go at that, when I get a break from manually typing stupid wall numbers!
  4. Thanks Jim; just to follow up, the Canadian distributor managed to wangle me a 2015 licence until everyone else caught up, which thankfully they have now!
  5. Our clients want us to add numbers for walls individually... ...we currently do it manually, which I find incredibly dull (obviously) and if you miss a wall or modify the plan then your whole numbering system goes out the window. Does anyone know of a tool, like a stamp tool, where you could add a prefix (for example GFW - for Ground Floor Wall), then it just incrementally increases the number with each placement? Attached is a screengrab example
  6. Thanks Jim Can I use 2011 with my licence then?
  7. Hi All I now have 2016 on my machines and the people I mainly deal with are still on 2010 (they only use VW in 2D so are slow to upgrade) Is there a way to save as 2010 from 2016; for instance I don't know if you can run an older version with a licence from the newer?
  8. Did anyone figure out how to do this? We have a client that likes us to sequentially number every wall surface in the finishes plan, which becomes a nightmare when the design changes as you have to number every wall again.
  9. Hi There V-people I have a particular problem where I have imported sketchup files (2D) for VW and there are hundreds, if not thousands, of lines that are on top of each other. Does anyone have a script/method to eradicate these pesky critters?
  10. I am following this thread with interest. I am currently running VW2010 on a R-MBP running 10.8.5 and it is the most stable system I have ever run VW on. I also had to run VW in a virtual machine a few years ago, because we were running VW12 and I had a Mac that was not downgradeable to an OS that I could run VW on. It was a very frustrating process that makes one despondent about the software upgrade freight train that we are all on.
  11. I'm now trying out VW2013 but, with respect to the display, it is exactly the same as 2010. No point in me upgrading until this is addressed.
  12. I'm now using a Retina 15" with VW2010 using a utility called 'Pupil' http://pupil.io This allows you to run the display at anything up to the native 3840x2400 resolution and switch on the fly, At the moment I run it at 2880x1800 (whilst wearing glasses!) because anything higher just makes it incredibly difficult to see. It's great!
  13. VW2010 Will only work on 10.6 or lower, attempting to run it on any more recent OS makes very very bad things happen, hence, if we need to buy _any_ new machines we will have to pay to upgrade all 7 seats in the studio. It really makes me feel like this upgrade business is just a way of creating cashflow.
  14. Sounds like the way of the future Ian. The only reason we need to upgrade VW is because VW2010 won't even work on any new Mac.
  15. Okay... so we've been using the hammer and slate method of annotation for years and I am getting into this database business... ... I can create keynotes and noticed that when you create the first keynote the Legend appears. If you delete the Legend HOW THE HELL DO YOU INSERT A NEW ONE?? I have tried copy/pasting one from another sheet, but that just crashes VW. Please help.
  16. I am testing 2012 and the rest of my office is on 2010 so wanted to move the menu item for "Export to 2010..." to a slightly more handy place in the menu structure. When I did that it said: The following Plug-ins are not in the Plug-ins folder: Export as Vectorworks 2010 File... Cut to ClipPad Copy to Clippad... etc What's going on? It works from the current menu item.
  17. I am stuck using VW on my 2011 Mac with Lion and we use VW Architect 2010 which crashes if you even show it to the machine. As I use my own machine (not the companies) I can't really insist they buy it for me. Until now I have been running 2010 in a Parallels/Snow Leopard Server virtual machine, which is a bit like drawing using 20ft long pencils. It is pretty irritating that there is no service pack for a year-old software package that costs thousands of pounds. I have been testing 2012 but the features that come with the upgrade are not worth paying to upgrade purely so I can use the software on my machine. We only draw in 2D on VW, so all the new 3D stuff is pointless for us. So does anyone have a licence they aren't using that they want to sell?
  18. I'd like an answer to this too. We upgrade every couple of years and when a new OS comes out we normally get left in the cold. There was a huge problem with Tiger and VW11 where we couldn't buy new machines without upgrading all our VW seats.
  19. Yes! Why is there an issue manager and no issue sheet generator?
  20. @Siltec NZ In all honesty it sounds like you need a new machine. Are you sure about the RAM? If you're using it professionally you should invest in new tools (or get your boss to!)
  21. Hi I have just been trying to get all yesterday's work back because any file I try to open from then is corrupt, including all the backup files from the 15min backups and the copies of those from my Time Capsule. This is really aggravating and it has happened on other files in our office too. If anyone wants a dump of the logs then please let me know.
  22. Has anyone got VW11.5.1 running on OS X 10.5? It runs but there are serious graphics problems (there appears to be a pixel pattern over the whole drawing window). I say this because we have 7 licenses and two new Leopard machines that can now not run 11.5. I know an upgrade would 'fix' the issue, but at the moment buying 7 2009 license upgrades isn't an option. In fact... that may not even be the solution as I have a 2009 demo DVD that has other really bad display problems.
  23. I am in the process of evaluating 2009 and have installed it on my new MacBook Pro (2.54 4GB Leopard) as we are currently running VW11.5 on our workstations. I don't want to install it on my day to day machine as I'm not to keen on messing my filesystem up (doubleclick opens the demo version etc) The issue I have is that when I load one of our drawings the zoom often doesn't resolve itself and the 'pre selection' shows objects in the background, like they are ghosts. Is there any help anyone can give to resolve this? I have tried fiddling with the preferences, to no avail.
  24. Re: 2009; to be honest I don't think I have been able to give it a good chance. My trial DVD renders the screen really strangely on my MacBook Pro. We are looking to upgrade to 2009 soon, but the expense is holding us back. I have to agree with billtheia about the ability to choose snaps, it is a boon in AutoCAD; has anyone put it on the wishlist?
