  1. George we know who is the big bad villain here but I can not go back to my clients and tell them this as an excuse for VW shortcomings and/or inability to reverse engineering the DWG export/import support in version 11.51 it was working OK the DWG export command, so obviously someone BADLY altered in the version 12 upgrade and now this mess
  2. I forgot to mention that GRASS from OpenOSX is major GIS program available for the MAC and it is compatible with ArcGis 9.x so check it out and see if it suits your work. what geographic coordinate system are you using for your spatial data? 2D or 3D? No datum support I assume since VW12.xx doesnt support any yet...
  3. I have tried exporting several DTM drawings with UTM coordinates (real world) in meters to DWG files with VW12 in Autocad 2004, 2005 and 2006 and this command is definetly NOT working properly the resulting files are all mess up I also tried exporting the same files in DWG 2000, 2002 and it is better BUT not working 100% the fonts and texts are not properly handled but at least the drawings are ok PLEASE FIX these DWG file export commands asap!
  4. nope...... but try Simuterra by Compuneering.com [ 03-14-2006, 08:16 PM: Message edited by: holsteinson ]
  5. Nina can you expand more what was wrong? I have tried also exporting many DWG files with VW12 in Autocad 2004, 2005 and 2006 and this command is definetly NOT working properly the resulting files are all mess up I also tried exporting the same files in DWG 2000, 2002 and it is better BUT not working 100% the fonts and texts are not properly handled but at least the drawings are ok in VW11 this bug was not present PLEASE FIX these DWG file export commands asap!

  7. go to creative engineering and get HighRoad and dont suffer anymore amigo! then export the finished producto in DXF to VW for final cosmetic purposes
  8. Darick as you well know georeferenced positioning is a little more complicated than "supporting lat/lon degrees coordinates for mapping projects" it takes GPS geographic coordinates system (WGS-84), grid coordinates system (UTM) and a geoid model support to have an accurate positioning that would allow designing, stakeout and construction of any land works. If you check out Autocad Landesktop 2005 or 3D Civil 2006 (which I regretfully have to use due to VWL shortcomings in this area) you can see the huge difference in features
  9. Pamela dont worry about it you are not at fault it is plain simple that VWL does not have Autocad 3D Civil/LAND DESKTOP control or accuracy or COGO tools features in developing and manipulating DTM surfaces or point coordinates editing I was really hoping that version 12 would finally support WGS-84 GPS coordinate system to gain "real world" geopositioning for all purposed Maybe version 13? tomorrow wont be soon enough!
  10. I have just gotten my VWL 12 upgrade and it was supposed to support georeferenced curved earth 3D coordinate system (GPS WGS-84/UTM grid) which is the keystone of all modern surveying! I have not found it yet.. THIS IS A MUST HAVE! The DTM needs contour intervals labels spacing and visibility defined by user Better breaklines for DTM/contour editing Lots of COGO tools Support for data collectors direct download an upload
  11. VW12 pull down menu indicates Autocad 2006 as the latest version compatible for import/export
  12. Got VW12 but dont see the WGS84 curved earth coordinates setup menu/palette.... nor does the help tells me about it can anyone indicate where is it?
  13. Use HighRoad program from Creative Engineering and you will be happy forever! up to 29 road per project
  14. VW would get a very large CAD market sales penetration if they come up with a module better than Autocad Civil 3D 2006! This module should include all COGO tools!
  15. also it if ARCVIEW files could be imported/exported directly it would be an immense help for all GIS/Surveyors users! WGS-84/UTM 3D coordinate systems are the base foundation for all actual modern georeferencing
  16. Mr Flaherty you have done all real world VW users a major break if you have implemented in version 12 support for curved earth and georeferenced coordinates systems!! Go the extra mile and contest AUTODESK Land Desktop module with an add on VW module!! We are having to use this dredful software for all earth moving design and construction projects!! It would a great feature to offer direct IMPORT/EXPORT for Trimble Terrain Model (TTM) format file. Trimble Navigation has a SDK that they furnish freely to all CAD programs
  17. VW has acquired in the past DTM software from Compuneering but did not implemented from a real world perspective or usage by civil engineers and earth moving contractors. I dont see why VW seeing the HUGE success $$$$ of Autocad Land Desktop module can do better? Certainly HighRoad beats any other software designing and laying out roads, channels, breakwaters, excavation and any other related earth works, for WINDOWS or MAC plataforms! An you can use UTM or State Plane coordinates for stake outs (no scale adjusment yet but Chris is working on it!) So dont lose time and get it
  18. dream on amigo!! VW doesnt even support UTM coordinates (not to even mention supporting 3D curved earth geodetic coordinates system!) for some strange reason VW developers have the flat earth misconception! They dont know about GPS applications such as GIS and surveying....

An you can use UTM or State Plane coordinates for stake outs (no scale adjusment yet but Chris is working on it!) Input can be done directly from the RECON data collectors and its feature coding is huge!! So dont lose time and just get it

  21. The site is not opened by the link please check it and let me know gracias Alex
  22. I am using AEC's Fastrack it is ok maybe will fit your needs Alex
  23. Hola Carlos the problem with VW is the lack of geodetic coordinate systems support "curved' earth georeferenced WGS-84 and UTM this can not be solved with the scropts
  24. VW need to implement asap support for both of these coordinate systems if this program is going to be considered a serious CAD program. Autocad Landesktop, Microstation DO support these real world coordinates As it is there is no direct ASCII or CSV text file import from data collector to create DTM or land survey or construction stakeout! Also no earth's curvature error correction can be used on large scale projects nor geographic latitude, longitude and height for GIS suppport
