LandMark should have an add-on module similar to LANDSKETCH
holsteinson replied to holsteinson's topic in Site Design
Here is the fixed link for LANDSKETCH http://www.eaglepoint.com/solutions/workflow/office/landsketch/landsketch.asp http://www.eaglepoint.com/solutions/workflow/office/landsketch/landsketch.asp Every CAD SUPPLIER has totally embraced Google Earth file uploading and tools, but NNA... the funny part is that NNA bought Archicad and this application has great GE one button uploading and georreferencing support! -
Color coded/shaded contours and DTM
holsteinson replied to holsteinson's question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
What not even the "artists" in VW use color coded/gradient contours in their DTM? wow! -
Again if NNA doesnt have the inhouse capability to develop georreferenced surveying data import and export get Trimble Navigation to generate their module TRIMBLE LINK for VW It is amazing the trouble to simply download from a data collector to VW and also to load the stake out files to the data collector! Come on NNA provide these tools in 2010

Add georeferencing coordinates systems support
holsteinson replied to holsteinson's question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
Just in case someone at NNA is considering this major feature missing from VW, a new Geoid model EGM2008 WGS84 was released by the NGA! NNA wake up EVERY other CAD is supporting datum, geoid and grid georrefeferencing -
LandMark should have an add-on module similar to LANDSKETCH
holsteinson replied to holsteinson's topic in Site Design
As usual NNA can not deliver useful tools .... not even a comment from the developers! Amazing how much interest and attention to client's new feature requests -
This old VW files formats problem is worst than I thought since I checked the VW2009 SP3 supported file formats in the knowledge base: File Formats Each version of Vectorworks has its own file version. (i.e. any file made in 2008 will have a flag that shows this when attempting to open the file in another version of Vectorworks.) The previous extension for these files was .MCD, As of Vectorworks 2008, the new file extension is .VWX. Some older file formats are no longer readable by newer versions of Vectorworks regardless of backwards compatibility. Vectorworks 2009 can open version 2009, 2008, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8 and version 7 files. Vectorworks 2008 and 12 can open as far back as MiniCAD 8. If you have a much older file from Blueprint or an early version of MiniCAD, you may not be able to open it with a modern copy of Vectorworks. If this is the case, contact technical support at 410-290-5114 or tech@vectorworks.net. I tried opening with my VW2009 SP3 several of my old files in version 8, 9 and 10 and NOPE it reports an error and doesnt open them, so there is a bug in this open routine. Please fix this asap
-
This is really insulting to all old users that have many drawings in previous versions of MiniCad and VW 8, 9 and 10 I have over 1,600 VW 8 and 9 CAD files in our archives that from time to time have to access them and now it can not be opened from within my new and improved VW2009 SP3 NNA shouldnt penalize its old users by not providing them with proper means to open or import all their old VW files with the new version 2009... this is the most idiotic antibusiness approach I have ever seen and whoever came up with this stupidity should be fired by NNA.

VW09 still no ground and grid coordinates support !
holsteinson replied to holsteinson's question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
The evil empire (AUTODESK) keeps putting out more and more useful real world geospatial tools with its newest Autocad Civil 3D that supports all georeferencing datums and grids coordinate sytems, import/export to various surveying data collectors and support for ground/grid distance planes, etc ... NNA come on this geospatial feature should be really easy to implement it is not a 3D rendering with shades and textures! -
Indeed it would be great to see NNA finally realize that it is not longer a flat earth anymore and embrace the 3D georeferenced datums and grids for land surveys, layouts, hydrology, etc
-
NNA should really check how the evil empire is embracing in full 3D georeferencing datums and grids http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=7971380 Because VW in this area is WAYYYYYYYYYYYY BEHIND!

Ian Indeed it is not working correctly the survey input in VW 09 this is a standard list of features codes for surveying http://www.ny.nrcs.usda.gov/technical/engineering/survey/featurecodes.html There are many standarized feature and attribute code libraries, suggest you use the one from Trimble and Tripod Data Systems or a DOT approved to make the best of it

A very interesting new module LANDSKETCH has been released by EaglePoint ( http://www.eaglepoint.com/lsps ) that allows the users to do layout residential designs electronically based on Google Earth or other spatial sources. A similar module for LandMark would be extremely useful for all land planning and land development users...

Download HighRoad from http://www.createng.com.au/evaluate.php And import your surveys data (XYZ text file from data collector or total station or GPS), generate the DTM to you liking including adding breaklines at the bottom of the river and both river banks and export as DXF to VW09... If you want to add any works or design to the natural river course, then add a NEW CONTROL LINE, PROFILE and TYPICAL CROSS SECTION in HR and voila! Dont need to reinvent the wheel!
-
You can use PROGRESS surveys generating each its DTM to compare surfaces as you excavate each layer
-
Eric the most simple way to input the collected land survey 3D point data (ID, Y, X , Z, Description or code) is a Comma Spaced Values format (CSV) since it allow the user to review, edit and modify these values easily in MS EXCEL worksheet prior to importing them into VW09 and generate the DTM (LandMark). Needless to say the best "flat earth" land survey program ever is LanDesign from the same author of LandMark while the best, most powerful and easiest to use DTM software is HighRoad from Creative Engineering in Australia. NNA should really take a close look to both as future add-modules for LandMark. HighRoad has both manual and automated feature strings built into that works great with surveying feature coding saving drawing time.

what is the best file format to ask for?
holsteinson replied to digitalcarbon's topic in Site Design
You are not indicating what kind of survey you are requesting: site survey (topo of terrain), an "as built" of existing structures, or both? If it is site survey the best way is to import in directly as a CSV text file point number, Northing, Easting, Elevation and description or code for each point and generate the DTM directly in VW09 this way you can control the triangulation and breaklines to improve modelling the terrain as closes to reality. If is an as built of existing structure or both, then DWG is good Again keep in mind that VW09 doesnt support any georreferenced datum and it is based on flat Earth scheme so distorsions are expected specially in large projects. -
VW09 still no ground and grid coordinates support !
holsteinson replied to holsteinson's question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
Now we are talking Panta... I knew that somewhere a great VW script programmer for this simple feature existed... Would this script list the CSV coordinates of all end points of user selected lines? Would this script list the vertex of all user selected polygons? Would this script list the coordinates of all locus points? Would this script list the coordinates of user selected curves end points? CSV Fields needed for each point are: Point number, Northing, Easting, Elevation, Description -
View in Google Earth command or button needed!!

Just tried this Google Earth button on Archicad 11 with a 12 lots project and it works like a magic wand!! -

Miguel as you can see there is a market for your road design for VW09 plugins .... dont you want the cash $$$? -
It would help a lot to have in VW09 Landmark automatic generation of layer by elevation contour interval so that each contour is placed on its correct Z value layer for a DTM Example: 1m contour would create a layer named 1m and all 1m contour's polygons of the DTM would be placed on it at an elevation Z of 1m

How can I generate a XYZ coordinates list from a drawing on VW09?
holsteinson replied to holsteinson's topic in Site Design
Chandler stakeout plug in is a starting point as a tool but need to be expanded to be able to select all end points of lines, all vertex of polygons and locus -

holsteinson replied to holsteinson's question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
Again the post is about the need for VW09 to have an uploading to GE button -
There are too many bugs to be eliminate yet on VW2009 wait until SP3 at least my oppinion is that from the added new/improved features it is not worthy to upgrade for 08 to 09

VW09 still no ground and grid coordinates support !
holsteinson replied to holsteinson's question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
Come on you have to be kidding .... US$50 a huge sum? I would have never guesses that VW professionals were so economically limited, I guess that means that no real top designers are using VW? I spend over US$50,000 a year in civil and land survey engineering and CAD software and I am a little fish in the pond Trimble Link is free add on ...it only cost NNA to ask for it to Trimble to develop it for VW is this too expensive or too much effort for NNA?
