  1. It amazes me that vw runs on intel chips that are hell of a lot more powerful than tablet chips but it can't generate live graphic feedback. Have a look at the link below for the power of a simple tablet app that's better than a pc/mac version of vw. Will we ever have this in vw??
  2. Not that I'm aware of. That's why I like the way Revit handles stories. It has live elevation and section markers.
  3. Thanks guys. For this image everything was done in vw. Usually I do the building model in vw and assign basic materials to the model. I then export using the Cinema 4D export (NOT Send to Cinema 4D). I then do all the materials in C4D using Vray and I add all the trees, cars, etc. in C4D. I also do the basic land in vw using the DTM tools but in C4D I adjust the land more appropriately using the magnet tool in C4D. The basic rule of thumb is all rigid work (flat horizontal and vertical contructions) are done in vw but all the freeform stuff is done in C4D. C4D is much more powerful and faster with that. There's a lot more to it but that's the basics Cheers
  4. Hi The creative minds competition isn't open to anyone outside the US however I thought I would do something in my spare time anyway  . See attached Everything is fully modelled in VW2012 and rendered with CineRender. I wanted to add a carpet I did in C4D (with Fast&Fur! Plug-in) but VW couldn't handle it. It had problems importing the 3ds file and crashed a lot and if it managed to bring it in, vw bogged down during navigation and become un-usable so I had to delete it. (btw, no problems with C4D-if I have some time, I'll do a rendering in C4D and post later)
  5. The problem I have with vw and archicad is you're at the mercy of the coder. You're always stuck with how the tool was coded and leaves no room for customisability. Even in the video above you have no control over the profiles of the handrails, the design of the posts and balusters etc. See image attached downloaded from autodesk website.
  6. Something else is that NemV has to come up with a replacement for PIO's if it want's to compete with Revit. Vw's PIO's have been around a long time (since 1998 if I'm not mistaken) and if it was such a great technology it would have taken on the world by now but instead Revit, a baby compared to vw in terms of software, has surpassed vw and it's PIO technology. So anything short of binning PIO, I don't see a future for vw.
  7. NemV's approach to BIM is extremely convoluted with unnecessary creation of layers and no link to elevation benchmarks as an example. Their transition from another modeling engine (don't know it's name) to parasolid has no affect. I recently tried to model a screw thread with a sweep and the object slowed the drawing down to a crawl, just to select the element took minimum 2 minutes. Doing a solid operation took even longer. Modeling the same thing and performing Boolean functions in C4D (which doesn't have a fancy modeling engine) was instantaneous. Maybe NemV should change from Parasolid to C4D's modeling engine? The only thing keeping me with vw is the C4D compatibility but that is becoming a stretch now as well. At the moment I'm between Revit and Vw however if there is ever a plug-in for Revit and C4D, I'll be 100% with Revit.
  8. Thanks Horst for taking the time. Much appreciated. Keep in mind this file is just a simplified version of other files I have. I have a library of Exhibition components including: brochure stands counter tops culon system exiframe exilight exiscreen light fittings maxima lite components octonorm profiles spaceline components (couple of which is in the above attached file) z-line Each of the above have numerous components within them and I can't spend time re-drawing them. If they are showing correctly and rendering in vw then they should be exported to c4d as well. Anyway, not to forget my original post, it seems totally useless to post bugs here or through the official channels.
  9. Mike, the "send to C4D " command is done by NemV. I've tried all alternatives. Bottom line, I'm tired of dealing with work-a-rounds. If NemV uses a feature to sell vectorworks, then that feature should be bug free.
  10. 1. I haven't had my bugs sorted out so don't even suggest asking for a feature. Anyway look at the wish list and you tell me how many of those have been answered with the release of vw 2012? 2. Revit allows for user control of the graphic appearance and it still maintains excellent drawing co-ordination. 3. Vw's drawing co-ordination is no comparison to Revit's so it's not like a great loss if we were allowed control of the graphic appearance at the sacrifice of drawing co-ordination. 4. I don't use any of vw PIO's because of what I mentioned in the previous post, therefore vw fails as a BIM tool for me.
  11. I need to work with groups and symbols. That is my workflow. I can't be ungrouping and then regrouping every time. That's just not on. Sorry.
  12. My personality is more of an artist than a mathematics geek so my eyes glaze over when I look at anything that's code based. I understand what you're saying about the Drawing Label and I know what you're saying is possible but I'm using your example of the "margin" as being restrictive and you're left at the mercy of the coder to fix that issue (if the margin was an issue for you). However, your example of the margin is not the only example of hard coded PIO's being a nuisance. What if your drawing office had a standard that didn't conform to a Bubble Style of Circle, Round Rect or Rectangle? This would become a problem. All PIO's have issues like this. PIO's CANNOT cover all scenarios all over the world therefore PIO's are not a global solution. NemV has to come out with a different solution like Dynamic Blocks/Symbols where 2D and 3D geometry are controlled by parametric 2D and 3D dimensions and 2D and 3D constraints. Maybe then it will compete with Revit's parametric components.
  13. Hi Is it worth Bug Submitting? An example: I've Submitted the attached files explaining the full problem on 1 Nov 2011 and I've tested it recently with VW2012 SP3 and still nothing is done about it. Therefore I ask, is it worth us Bug Submitting??? This is no wonder why vw seems to be a beta software. I think beta testers are letting the programmers know of issues but I think that NemV doesn't bother fixing them. Sigh....this software had so much potential.
  14. Doesn't solve the problem. You're still at the mercy of the coder. Every time you want something customised, you have to wishlist it????? With Revit, you just get on with it.
  15. Change to Revit. Revit doesn't use coding to do something like this. You have full control. As far as I know, vw can't do this.
  16. I don't see them merging all their software. Nemetschek's strategy for BIM is IFC. Imho, IFC is not an answer for BIM co-ordination-at least as far as vw is concerned. e.g. Draw 4 walls with a window and a door in vw. Export to IFC. Now import the exact IFC file back into vw. Those objects are no longer walls, window and a door, it's solids with data attached to it. The wall cannot be edited like a wall. Now, if vw can't handle it's own IFC file, how is it going to handle IFC files from other software. Btw, Revit will import the vw IFC file correctly with a wall being a wall etc. The future of Nemetschek software looks to be very fragmented whereas the Autodesk's software looks to be merging very well, look at the new 2013 product line. (And I'm no fan of Autodesk.) My 2c.
  17. This is why cutting planes (used by Revit) to determine floor plans is a good alternative to the current way of how vw handles floor plans. Vw is becoming too restrictive compared to the competition. You can model in Revit anyhow you like and Revit will sort out the 2D plans, elevations, etc. as it realistically would appear from that view.
  18. I agree with Chris D. PIO's are old technology and it's cumbersome. Revit has a much better solution. With Revit the user has full control. With vw, we're at the mercy of the coder.
  19. In Revit, you can control the cut plane hights so this would easily be possible if implemented in vw. Any object in vw can have an over-ride instead of having the hight specified for layers.
  20. The problem we have here is that NemV is sticking their heads in the ground and hoping this issue will go away. They are doing this because they know this isn't a simple fix because vw is based on old technology as compared to Revit which in new tech. As a lot of users are finding out, Revit has lots of tools that they need and vw doesn't have those tools. I think the best solution is move to Revit then maybe NemV will get their heads out the ground and re-built vw from the ground up with a new philosophy/technology. My 2c.
  21. NemV needs to change how plans, sections, etc are derived from layers in vw. Revit can create random shapes like the attached image, and then generate the corresponding plans, sections, etc. In vw, sure you can model this type of building however generating the corresponding plans, etc. isn't possible-the user has to do this manually. The way Revit processes plans, sections, etc. is far superior and NemV needs to take a lesson from this. My suggestion is to have Layers use Cutting Planes to generate 2D drawings.
  22. Hi, I would like to add a "pull down list" in one of the fields of the "Edit Title Block" dialog in the Sheet Border. Can anyone show me how to do this? An example: Field Title is "Drawn By:" I would like the "pull down list" to have 5 names to choose from. Thanks,
  23. Hi shibo82 You have to use the plug-in found on the maxon site to create a *.vw4d file from vw. Then you import the *.vw4d file into C4D. HTH,
  24. Anything Mac is just not for me. People speak of valuable screen space-the unified window interface eats up screen space-it shows everything. The Ribbon shows only tools/buttons that are required for each active command therefore it's contextual. Tools/Buttons that aren't required aren't visible thus freeing up screen space.
  25. I actually don't like a MAC interface where the user is always shifting palettes therefore I wouldn't be in favour of "floating" palettes. I like everything to be docked.
