I have tried to update to vectorworks 8.5.1 but when I run the updater it never sees the original 8.0.1 program and therefore cannot update the program. this is on Mac G4 system 9.0.4. How can I update vectorworks with this problem?

I am trying to update vectorworks 8.0.01 to 8.5.1 but the updater I downloaded from the internet which is labeled 8.0.1 to 8.5.1 does not see the original version installed on my computer. What am I doing wrong?
