  1. go to ~/Library/QuickLook and remove the file VectorWorksQL.qlgenerator Log out and then in or restart the finder. Your icons will be back to their old ways.
  2. I don't have a hatch, but I do have 5 flagstone textures (two are the same with different colors). I am attaching them. I hope they help. RonMan
  3. I tried a few thing to see if I could make an opening in a curved wall that did not show some truly strange renderings. Bottom line; it IS possible to do. Rather than try to describe all that I did here is the file. The biggest keys were to set the jam width to zero, Use Wall Depth unchecked and the important one Detail Level:Low. Now if you need the jam to show then you are SOL. as soon as you make that non-zero it starts to look bad. Good luck RonMan
  4. Try setting the jamb thickness to zero. Putting doors in curved walls produces some odd effects. I usually make the part that needs the door straight and then put cured walls on either side. Ronman
  5. I put some time in to this one a few weeks ago and was unable to look straight up or down. The dialog allows you to input an angle, but has no effect. This is either a bug, or I don't understand how to make it work. RonMan
  6. I have never found a way. The recommended solution is WinDoor: http://www.ozcad.com.au/otherproducts/vwaddonsAW.html
  7. rDesign, thanks for saying something. I thought I was the only one and therefore it was my problem. The only program I have with this problem is Vectorworks. I did submit a bug report. If you submit one too, then perhaps it will not be viewed as an isolated event.
  8. Good idea, but these are the standard Vectorworks files in the Libraries>Object-Imperial directory. I would think that Vectorworks own files would display correctly.
  9. I have had this problem for some time 12.5 and 2008. The longer filenames in the resource browser get garbled with what appears to be some HEX code. I searched and could not find a reference to this. My system gets a permission repair every night as part of the backup. I have deleted the preferences file in the past and I still have no idea how to fix it. What I do is just add Favorites when I need them and clear the list often. The filenames are OK for a while and then I look up and they are messed up again. I have no clue on this one.
  10. Memory will improve performance, but not nearly as much as a faster CPU. Get a copy of MenuMeters from VersionTracer.com and turn on the memory monitor. If memory usage goes up while you are rendering or the system does pageouts while you are rendering, then memory will help. Your present system is pretty (OK, very) good. Rendering should be pretty fast. There is a thread here somewhere that discusses improving rendering speed. You might want to look for it. In talks about lights, curved surfaces and a few other things that can really slow down a render. Good Luck, RonMan
  11. I have never found a way to do it. Anyone?
  12. It may be a video card issue as well. OpenGL is in the video card. When I upgraded to my new Mac Pro, things that would not stay rendered do now. I plan on upgrading to NVidia as soon as the card is available in under 5-7 weeks.
  13. I had that problem on a new Mac Pro (Early 208) until the new graphics update came out. That fixed it. When I saw it I had a bad flashback to college in the early 70's. Whew! RonMan
  14. I forgot a good cheap one at http://www.haroldsfonts.com/frank.html ($20)
  15. What platform are you on? There are lots of fonts that might work for you. From Adobe there are Graphite and Tekton. ($) I have Archie, but I can't seem to figure out where I got it. Not sure if was free I have had it so long. There is also a CAD font pack at http://www.will-harris.com/store-h/architect_fonts.htm ($) You can also find some good fonts (free) at http://www.dafont.com/ (it may take you a while)
  16. We sometimes do Quicktime Panoramas when the client is having trouble visualizing. Well I have a problem I never noticed before (VW2008), the tilt setting has no real effect. No matter what you set it to you get just a couple of degrees of tilt. This space has an open loft and we want the client to be able to look up and see from the first floor. Not working and no idea why. Any clues? RonMan
  17. My experience is that if you make a wall too short to contain the door or window, the door or window will be removed. For a will with many window where some get close to a corner, it gets dicey to make small adjustments. I have never had a problem with making walls longer and having a problem. Do you have any details on that condition? RonMan
  18. Subversion is another very good alternative. snvX on the Mac side or any of these: http://www.versiontracker.com/php/qs.php?mode=basic&action=search&str=subversion&srchArea=macosx&submit=Go And any of these on the Windows side: http://www.versiontracker.com/php/qs.php?mode=basic&action=search&str=subversion&srchArea=windows&submit=Go
  19. Just had a strange idea. Code management systems can manage anything, any file of just about any kind. Take SmartCVS; free version available for Macs and Windows. It can be used to check in/out, version control, etc. I wonder if these systems can be used to manage CAD files. I have never tried to use them for CAD files, but they work wonders in a development environment, where some of the same problems come up. Just a thought. Christiaan perhaps you could take a look. RonMan
  20. There is that chance that you may find what you want here http://www.mayang.com/textures/ and it is free
  21. Please note that you may not actually have to reboot the system to clear up RAM usage. Very often, just logging out and in again will fix this problem. The RAM usage is usually YOUR processes not the systems. Logout and login usually clears this up. RonMan
  22. This problem is much worse if the Resource browser is open. If you have a lot of symbols and the symbols are shown (triangle is pointing down and you can see all the symbols). Other items effect the problem as well, textures for example. I either close the resource browser or collapse the symbols and textures. This can really speed things up...sometimes. RonMan
  23. I am not aware of a way to do this with Room Name Simple. You might try using a Space and turn off the polygon. You can control the number of decimal places with it. Ron

Nicholas, I have used them a great deal. My experience is that the hatches use a lot of memory and can really slow down a drawing. We used them on a new construction project and on my partner's G5 it took forever just to change zoom levels. We liked the results so much we put up with it, but I had to turn off the hatches until the end. He has 3 Gb of memory on his box. The textures work fine with little or no pain (except when rendering, but that is normal). RonMan
  25. This has turned into a 2-hour job that should have take 30 seconds. OK. Even though I changed all of the wall styles and all of the class settings on the viewport, I had to reapply the wall setting AND reapply the class for every wall. A bit of a pain, but it is now working. Thanks all for the help RonMan
