  1. Thanks for the replies. I have waited over half an hour for anything further to happen. I will try for longer and see what happens then.
  2. I have tried to install SP1 2008 without success. I get to 88% install. It then says installing 1 of 2. The time line goes to about 1/3rd way, then stops. The install tablet then says 89% install. But the whole install procedure has hung. I have tried this several times, with new downloads. Always the same result. Any suggestions? Katie? Does anybody have the same problems? New computer. PC Dual quad, so there should be no problem. XP
  3. Can anybody tell me where to find an idiot's guide to workgroup referencing? It seems to have potential over what I normally use, but so far the manuals have been utterly sparse on even the basics.
  4. My wish for a long time has been for a text editor function. Click on any text, which is at any scale, and a large panel appears which enunciates the text at a computer monitor scale, to allow editing or identification. An example of this is how one edits a worksheet. I have had this facility on older graphic programmes,(Designer?). It would make life so much easier. No more zooming in and out continuously to sort the notes on the drawing, and to distribute/discard a standard palette of notes.

  6. It may also be that you have somehow slipped into the Class Show/snap. Set to Show/snap/modify again. I have had this several frustrating times.
  7. And I thought we were a global community?
  8. I downloaded PDF995 from the internet and it works fine for me from VW11.5 on PC.
  9. Thanks for the responses. Jonathan, you were absolutely correct. The "edit all classes" had somehow mysteriously changed to "show all classes".
  10. All dimensions in a file are frozen. No handles to edit are available. The dimension is there, but I can't edit. Does anybody have any solutions?
  11. I have tried the HP 9800 with VW11 and VW 12. The results for all patterns and productivity I got were: V11 Banding for patterns, problems encounted with v11 Try "Raster Print"-sometimes better but still unacceptable. Multiple prints with V11 -NO V12 Multiple prints with V12 -OK. Patterns only print accurately with "Raster Print" ativated-then all OK. If printing with only "patterns as monitor on screen",-some patterns, especially white upon colour, it prints as a solid colour. It would be nice to plug and play without problems. So far I have lost hours of hopefully productive time trying to sort out differences between Vecrorworks and HP printers. It should work seamlessly. It would be nice if Nemetschek would come into the debate as to which printers work or DO NOT WORK within the Vectorworks family.
  12. I am trying to buy a new A3 printer. I am using v11 with Windows. I have used a HP1220c for many years with lots of problems. Bad pattern printing- different patterns printed No multiple copies. I have now tried a HP9800. Patterns are more accurate, but they are banded, not seamless as they are on screen. Again no muliple copies. It works fine in other programmes, and I have imported the uptodate driver from HP. Does anybody have any experience as to why this is happening? Is the HP1280 any better? Or are there A3 printers which are guaranteed to be totally compatible with VW. The system is brand new with plenty of oomph. Pentium D 830 2x250GB HD 128MB nVidia Quadro FX 1400
  13. "bitb" is a typo. It should be bits. The issue is not a classes/layer problem, I have tried that. I have now realized that these bits are because I copied a series of objects from another file, which surely is possible. These were probably generated in a previous version. Some bits of these are burned into the file, uneditable, and cannot be removed by any method. Surely other users have had the same problem. Is there a solution. Fortunately these are not in an unfortunate position in the drawing. In the past I have had to place a patch ober them but that could be disasterous in the middle of a complicated part of the drawing.
  14. I am using 11.5. I am within the same file and copying bitd from one layer to another. Then, when entering the new layer which I have copied it to and trying to use the copied elements, some are OK and some freeze, absolutely. I cannot use them. They are stuck, uneditable. Why? It is a very important file, as all are. Any help would be appreciated.
  15. Of course everyone would love to wholly work in 3D. The benefits are enormous and also will be the essential in the future, However, much as I would like to cut sections, draw plans etc, once you apply a Z factor to any element it loses its patterns, fills and basic graphics, or am I missing something essential. Everything is in wireframe and not in the graphics which makes VW 2D so special. I use 3D for models, but once I do this I have to abandon the base file, and then in 2D in a new version of the file, return for the major working construction drawing programme. VW works in detailed hybrid symbols, which to my understanding does not translate to the basics of 2D/3D general working. Any comments from anyone?
  16. This issue has been around for a while. Review older postings. I posted 08,31,2005, and a last string to a posting by Poormetal on 06,02,2005 and have only now got a little comfort. I received a driver from the UK distributors which actually works OK in all respects apart from not accurately printing the correct patterns. I have to fiddle with print at screen resolution, or not, in print setup. Unticking produces the correct pattern but small, ticked produces no pattern. I always try to print at draft for speed, but I do not have 100% results with normal print quality either. V12 is no different. The XP generic printer driver is the best(at home), but it will not handle multiple copies, so printing is slow and laborious, and I have now abandoned it, as I can not get this generic printer driver from W2000 which is installed in the office. I am nearly there but not quite. Most frustrating.
  17. For goodness sake. It takes a split second to click on the X top right to get rid of the annoying opening sheet. At least we know that the programme is working, although nobody ever uses the default sheet.

Travis, Thanks for that I will try it. Kimcz

    Text Editor

I joined a string as part of the last imput on this topic. I believe that this should be brought to the fore again. To be able to click on a note on the drawing and have a text editor panel appear would save countless inzooms and outzooms. I have had this ability in other programmes. When I have to address notes in producing a drawing it is a real bind and frustration not to have this facility. Do any other Vectorworks users have the same problems?
  20. I too wonder why we have not got a text editor. Islandmon mentioned this. Having to zoom in and out all the time whilst editing notes is tediom to the extreme. If we were able to have the whole drawing on screen, click on a note, which launches a text editor panel, would seem to be essential. I don't see this mentioned in the v12 upgrade. Why not? When is it coming? Surely not v20. I might be dead by then. Or am I missing something?
  21. Alan Thanks for your reply and help. The HP 1220C works brilliantly with every other programme I use. Multiple copies, good colours, a good printer workhorse. Why not for Vectorworks? My reference to Moderators is to try to get someone from Nemetschek to hear me. They can pass this on to their team. This has been an ongoing problem since v9 , V8 works without problems, but I have "heard" many contributors to the Forum express the same, with no response . I am using XP 1042 Ram and a good up to date computer. Can Katie please repond?
  22. I placed a message to ask questions regarding a printing problem v11.5 to Hp1220C. This has now got to the bottom of the pile of the Printing Problems section. There must be a lot of Vectorworks users who are suffering the same problems. My problem and others on the same section of the Forum are being sidelined. It is still a real problem, and obviously the Moderators are not being positive about the solutions required. Can someone please respond to this fundamental issue. Is there a solution? Is the Global HP organisation ignoring the problem? Are Vectorworks Nemteschek oblivious to their customers, .. to be able to present our efforts, by "printing out" our efforts, long thought about, long considered and neccessary to earn a crust of bread. It does not work! Period! Are other users as frustrated as I am? Or am I floating in the wind of self delusion or incompanancy? Can someone please help?
  23. I also use the 1220c at the office and home. At home I have to use the driver which comes with XP which works fine except that I can't prnt multiple copies-a real bind. I tried the HP driver-It crashes every time. In the office we are networked using Windows network programme-4 years old-and the HP driver. This with v9 to v 11.5 crashes immediately. We have to print out in v 8, which prints out fine but of course the translation from upper versions causes problems. There is obviously a serious problem with the compatibility with an industry standard printer and an industry standard CAD programme. Why? Surely Nemetschek have tried to address this, on behalf of their users. It can only mean redrafting a programme. Does anybody have success with the HP1220c. Which printer and driver at A3 format does work with 11.5, XP? Can anybody from Nemetschek (Katie?) answer this question please?
  24. Thanks for the above. It is however so much nicer to be able to label the drawing with the correct scale to avoid confusion. Clients and contractors understand it so much better. I do in actual fact have a scale statement on my standard titleblock, but nobody seems to read it, and in any case I have several scales on each file between different sheets.
  25. I mean that I can't type in the new scale in the titleblock, after having saved the file in a new name. With the print to 50% scale, the scale reads incorrecly, and with the print to fit, the drawing is probably not printed to accurate scale as well as not noted with the correct scale in the title block.
