  1. As you can see from my topic "windows from 2008..." I had similar problems and have submitted it as a bug report. I also had a swift answer from NNA asking me to send files to them. I have (as late as yesterday) sent several files and snapshots and am waiting for their reply. My problem is not exactly the same but very similar and affects wall insertion and window detail presentations in particular. I just started using 2009 and thought this was a 2009 problem, but if I go back to 2008, blank documents and all, I can reproduce similar problems - not the same though. At the end I get lost with all the different settings and possible combinations and blame myself for it all...so I'm not too proud to say that I'm glad I'm not alone with these problems. Anyway, I'll tune in and give you all I get from my mail contacts with NNA a.s.a.p. By the way - I'm not sure the problem is with the windows. I have a feeling the walls might be the root, because I have walls randomly loosing their "join-with-other-walls function". Also very annoying.
  2. ......M.CH Not giving up is the key to success! The rotation angle box on top got all my attention.....and I never realized, 'til now, that there is a separate box for the text rotation. Thanks! Is there a Montreux in the UK?
  3. I have tried that. The text box just jumps away to another location without rotating a bit. I also tried making new space notations in the rotated model. Then the text show up rotadet by default like the old ones and can't be adjusted either.
  4. I need to work in a rotated plan mode. When I rotate the plan all text follows the rest of the drawing, but text made with the space tool (room #, area etc) does not rotate. "adjust flipped text" is on. Any idea how to solve this problem?
  5. Thank you Mike....you are absolutely right! I really needed this positive turn after having spent two days with my fresh installation of 2009...
  6. Well - I have a similar problem. I want to assign a class to all doors and consequently have them change to the by class color. The easiest way is to select all doors and move them to the right class in the OIP. They switch to the right class but the color does not change. In the class orgzr the "use at creation" is checked. This is if I move more than one at a time. If I move them one by one it works, this has nothing with the door settings, groups or similar to do. ...another bug? This problem occurs in a 2008 file opened in 2009. I tried a clean 2009 file with just a couple of walls and some doors. Then there is no problem. So the 2008/2009 compability must be poor.
  7. Draw a circle with wanted radius. In AEC (provided you have Architect) menu go to "create roof". Set pitch etc and the conical roof will be drawn. You will be able to use the model tools "substract solids" and "add solids" to join the two roofs. The final roof will not be intelligent anymore, meaning you will not be able to edit any settings in the roof menu. Beware - VW (even 2009)is not able to edit the pitch of a cone roof anyway. It's too complicated.....?!
  8. I opened a file drawn in 2008 in 2009. Windows won't be edited correctly and will not fit in walls as they should. Maybe my concern is premature as I just installed 2009 and this is the first thing I did. Is it really possible I hit a bug the first thing??? Or is just Murphy's law? Anyone else having the same experience? Anyhow this is what I reported to "bugsubmit": Having problems with windows in a 2008 file converted to 2009. Window in wall shows falsely in "window setting". Jambs show falsely in drawing. Take a window (I used a biparting casement), in 500 mm thick wall. Do not use wall depth. Set offset to 150. In settings: Set interior splay wall to w 50 and d 300. Exterior splay none. In the wall detail settings the window in figure is on top, but should be on bottom of the wall opening. Furthermore the jambs are integrated in the wall. They should not! The recess in the wall should be adjustable and to be set in the wall detail settings. - from 0 to the jamb width. I also used a timber sill with extension 40 mm. In the setting figure the extension is the distance between the wall opening and the edge of the sill. This is not the case in the drawing. If you add trims to the window it becomes really disappointing...se attachment. see attachment wwiw ...and the trims normally do not align with the jambs. An offset function must be added. Now this was 2008 > 2009. I drew a new window and new wall in blank 2009 document. Only difference is the offset in wall set to 200mm. Most problems solved except how window shows in wall detail setting. And that "draw wall lines" did not work. Furthermore the wall splays do not follow if the widow witdth is edited. ...and the sill extension automatically adjusts to the exterior trim width - why? ...and there is a gap between the splay wall and the stool....why? 2009 version: see attachment wwiw2 Am I missing something?
  9. Than you Ray I twice tried the first quick way to do it, but at the end VW did not recognize the .VS file as a script file. So there was no way to press OK. I also tried to name an empty file with.VS, but no.... I'll read through the other two methods later.
  10. whoaw Pat!...I'm impressed but even more confused...this not my cup of tea. I'm still glad I know how to boot my computer. I would just mess everything up trying to insert new scripts as tempting as it might be. Thanks anyway!
  11. Some windows suddenly turn up as just "window" in OIP. They are not rendered properly in 3D and seem to have fallen out of the wall. I know I can pick them out and set them back again - but that's not the real problem. First of all I wonder why they suddenly just pop out, then the real problem is the class visbility, because: Remaining windows turn up as "window in wall" in OIP and render allright. But these windows/i/w (with assigned class) will not show on screen if class is set to active only. Meaning that if a window or a door is inserted in a wall the view by class does not work. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong. Help appreciated.
  12. Hi Pat What I want is line colors and class assignements in the symbol to switch to the new class default color/assignment when I change class in the OIP. But I understand the symbols are locked and should be so to preserve their settings. What I'm about to do is to convert all my layers and classes in a document to fit to ACAD standards. They absolutely want colors to be by layer in all details of the symbols. I've done it as described above and that works fine.
  13. How do I get symbols to show by class (or by layer in ACAD) without editing the symbol itself? Do I have to convert them into groups, assign class and then create new symbols? or is there a smart way to do this?
  14. When an objet is selected and you open the class organizer the class the object belongs to should be visible and highlited (preselected) in the organizer. Any conflict of interest with other functions?
  15. OK thanks! I've had som mail exchange with oldguy, but we never came to a solution. He rearranged the files in ACAD somehow and sent them back to me - they behaved the same way anyhow. May I ask you to try to import them in 2008 just to see what happens? By the way: "mall" means template
  16. I have solved the problem - don't know exactly how I did because I tried so many different ways. Anyway I'm not as desperate any more. Pat, I could not import them the exactly the same way, simply because the dwg import window you mentionned showed up differently. The file that was ok only gave me two options in the "objects" setting: "preserve look and links" or "hide all". I used preserve... The other file gave me three options: "preserve look" / "preserve all links" and "hide all" - I tried them all. So just the fact that VW import options do display differently puzzles me. I wanted to attach the files to this reply, but could not fina a way to do that. It's described in FAQ, but I don't get it... - do you?
  17. I received two dwg files that must be used in the project for automatic fileing reasons. Each one contains a drawing frame and a title block. One in format A1 one in A3. The title block has attributes (text linked to records) in the OIP, just like VW-title blocks. This works fine with the A1 file, where the title block is imported as a "symbol". I can edit it and use it in my drawings - then return them as dwg files. But when importing the A3 file the title block just turns up as a "group" and is no longer intelligent. It's editable in the OIP but changes will not show in the tiltle block. All links have vanished and I can't find a way around to make it work. My theory is that the two original dwg files are made differently somehow, but they claim they are made exactly the same way and that there is no difference at all and that the only problem is the some people use odd applications like Vectorworks..... I desperately need help... Any ideas?
  18. It's probably there on your mac somewhere.... Have you tried just searching for ".dwg"? or "files created today"
  19. It would be useful to have the objects data size displayed in the OIP. When creating an object or a symbol, making it too complex has impact on rendering time down the line, so if we could see right away how many kB( or whatever it's called) an object, group or symbol requires, it would help a lot. Also I would appreciate if symbols, textures etc in the object browser could be listed by size.
  20. My experience is that rendering time was almost reduced to 50%, just by upgrading to 2008.
  21. In 2008 you can use the export function to create VW documents down to version 10. Here you will find all you need to know about requirements: http://www.nemetschek.net/search/search.php?zoom%5Fquery=requirements
