  1. Thanks Delmar for answering some of the questions in the other forum. With a bit more digging, I found VA Setup Data.mcd in VectorWorks/Plug-ins/Common/Data. Open it in VW and you can edit/view it under window/worksheets/LayerMap.G,etc. It is easy to export it for editing/printing in a different application. It controls the classes and settings. -just what I was looking for! I have to assume there is no way to add classes to PIO's without reprogramming the scripts they are made from. I see no way of nesting layers. And yes, if a class is used, it is created if it did not exist before.
  2. It depends on how nice the weather is. You need some excuse to get out of the office
  3. I would like to thank Robert Anderson for his classes/layers chart, included in the extras folder. I have a few comments and questions about it, and classes: The comments: It would be nice to have it formated in such a way that it could be printed out in more than either microscopic size, or 20"x48' size. Adobe Acrobat simply will not 'tile' the image. If it was in a standard spreadsheet format, it would make life easier to reformat it as the user sees fit. It also mentions in the chart under mod-site-civil "Can we get Erez to combine these and use classes for this?" I assume Robert was making a private note for himself, and that Erez must work at NNA. Does this mean it has been done, or is it for a future release. I only ask since after upgrading to 11.5, many of my DTM related classes disappeared. I have added them back in, but maybe there is a reason for this absence. With the new view ports, it would make sense to organize drawings a little differently, relying on classes more, and having fewer layers. You really do not need many layers if you have classes to keep things organized, and view ports for the final printed project. Just my opinion. KISS The Questions: How does one print out a report of classes used? Is there a way to save or load classes (other than via a blank document). (maybe a hidden pref or com file somewhere?) Is there any way to add to the plug-in object classes? (i.e.Style-Glazing-4) It is easy to organize classes in the drop down menu by using a '-' to put them in folders. Can you reorganize layers/sheets the same, by either nesting them in folders, or changing the order of them in the list? If a plug-in object produces items/symbols that use a class that does not exist in the document, what happens? Thank you everyone who reads this forum, and takes the time to respond. I know how difficult it can be to take time out of your day to do this. (I had put this in General, but perhaps I should of used this forum instead. -sorry) [ 04-01-2005, 03:04 PM: Message edited by: jeremyw ]
  4. 1) dedicate a cell as a variable (i.e. put value in cell A1) 2) include it in your function (i.e. =if(A1=5,"Five","not five") 3) The cell value equals the function in it. (i.e.cell A1 contains function A, in Cell A2 is a function referring to cell A1.) 4) "=sum(A1...A10)" returns sum of A1 to A10 In general start equations with "=", anything else is considered a value or text. Think of cells as a 2D matrix if it helps. I would have'Aa' be where your function is, all other variables would be a different cell. Using your formula: CELL | ENTRY ______|______________________________ C4: enter "=B1+(B1*B3/100)+(B1*B2/100)" B1: enter At value B2: enter Is value B3: enter If value A1-A3: enter labels so you know what to enter on line below C3: enter label so you know where result is
  5. propstuff: ROFL mw: You actually got me! I was so intrigued I read the first paragraph a second time before I noticed your last sentence! Very funny. For what it's worth, I have found four lengths of wood work well. You lay one piece against the side of a wall near an opening. You lay the two remaining pieces against them projecting into the wall opening (doorway). Measure the distance, subtracting the dimensions of the first two 'spacers'. The first two are to keep the second two away from any trim. You need two people for this method, one on each side of the wall. In practice, the spacer is fastened to the wood. It is cheap and works great.
  6. In another thread, I made mention of this rotation problem. VW just will not except anything other than 'up' as north. The only way I know is to rotate everything to line up with north as the top. Rotating drawings has made it to the wish list. I wonder if you could change the date by 6 months and enter coordinates as if project was on the other side of the equator? N for S etc. A bit risky though.....
  7. I wish I knew. It is too high tech for someone of my lowly pay grade to figure out....
  8. I thought you might like to see this: Dr. Calipio and his Architecture co-op student move the new experimental mega-caliper into position to get accurate external measurements of a clients Malibu beach house. Dr. Calipio is quoted as saying "This could be the end of V.I.F. and Do Not Scale notices on drawings of the future, we are very excited about this work. We even have city block size calipers in the works. It seems to be a fully scaleable technology with no end in sight" (April 1, 2005)
  9. If you want a repeatable bug, see my "property line bug?" post. (Make a property line and click on a corner with the split tool.) This is with a mac, but I suspect it will also work with windows. It to does a 'disappearing act' style of crash - no notice.
  10. Thanks Mike, I did not want to split them, as I mentioned above, I found the bug by accident. Just messing around.... For some unknown reason, I was unable to ungroup the property line into polys. I just assumed it could not be done in 11.5. But upon shutting down and restarting, it was quite easy to break apart the property line, do a clip surface, then reconstruct the new poly into the desired new property line (roadway). Thanks again Mike for your thoughts, just the same! Mike - if you try 'splitting' a property line corner, does it crash your machine to? P.S. I remember going to my doctor once, and telling him "If I lift my arm a certain way my elbow hurts" He said "Don't do that" - good advice.......
  11. WOW! Some really great ideas. Thank you for the input. The small walls method never occurred to me. 'G' as well. I particularly like jan15's technique of using rectangles in doorways. So simple, yet it provides alignment, wall thickness and door position in one step. I have already used some of these ideas in my work. Thanks Peter for the welcome, it is nice to see a forum that actually works. VIF all the way!

  13. O.K., to be more precise: Select property line. With split tool active, click on a corner (vertex or point) of property line. Near instant crash. Clicking on mid section does not crash it.
  14. I tried that, even tried making a brand new property line in a blank doc. It will crash every time for me. iMac 800MHz G4, 768MB OSX 10.3.8, VW11.5
