  1. You, my friend, have discovered a bug. I'm sure Kevin Linzey will read this thread sometime today and note the problem and work on it. Right, Kevin? In the meantime, I suggest selecting both instrument and accessory manually and using the rotate tool to get the rotation you need.
  2. Burrtoe, for presentation and teaching purposes, I run VW2008 via Parallels off my MacBookPro w/ only a moderate decrease in speed - nothing noticeable for 2D work. If I need real transparency, I can boot up into my Vista partition and run VW2008 off that, though my aversion to Vista and the fact the computer can't run two independent screens that way mean I use this as a last resort. Let NNA get you the Mac license... and congrats on making the switch. You won't regret it.
  3. It sounds like you have no favorite files list. You must either browse files to see their resources, or add them into your Favorite Files. The process is the same, but you start with different commands. Both commands (Browse a File... and Add new Favorite File...) are found in the menu under the black triangle in the upper right corner of the Browser, next to the files drop-down menu. It is wise to first browse a file, to make sure you like it and really want it in your favorite files list, then add it to your favs, where they'll be available during each session from now on. Be advised that since the computer has to store a library of these favorite files in RAM when you start the program, it's wise to keep the list short.
  4. You can move fairly reliably in 3D space if you have 3D edge snaps turned on and are moving from point to point using the 3D selection tool, not the 2D selection tool. Cris Dopher
  5. NIk-- Using a viewport? Check it's advanced preferences -- maybe text is set to .5 scale.
  6. I have learned, over time, to keep a symbol handy that is nothing but a bunch of loci that have my favorite classes (with their attributes) attached. After a DWG import screws up my drawing, importing the special symbol returns my drawing to how I intended it, because the classes then overwrite/update. Cris
  7. You should have a whole bunch of new Spotlight resources that installed with 12.5. If you had customized library files in 11, you'll need to open and re-save each one as a version 12 file before they'll be viewable in the resource browser.
  8. try a pleated fabric image texture, with image transparency, applied in a Perimeter mapping. Cris Dopher
  9. If you're choosing a machine with rendering in mind; go for the most powerful desktop you can afford. The notebooks are fantastic, but the desktop will get you great renders faster. Cris Dopher
  10. Set one DB up perfectly, then save as a red object - i.e. Create Symbol, but check the option for Convert to Plugin Object. You then use that red object form the Resource Browser as your main tool for plopping down titleblocks, rather than the default DB tool. Cris Dopher
  11. Digital, a basic tenet of VW is that no two objects can have the same name, regardless of object type. Period. This is something you'll have to live with for now. CD
  12. Artistic Renderworks has problems with Windows in general. The first Service Pack update might fix this, I don't know. CD
  13. I'm gonna have to disagree with ya there, Petri. The ability to be able to name a saved view and a sheet layer and a viewport with the same names (i.e. "plan") would be great. Most users can keep their names straight on their own, especially since these are discreet types of objects. While I agree that a smart user SHOULD name everything differently, I have always viewed this as a program limitation. As a silver lining, it does get offices into discussions of CAD standards more quickly, because you need to come up with naming systems to avoid name conflicts with the current VW. Cris Dopher
  14. send me the file if you like; i'm intrigued. crisdopher@mac.com
  15. Sounds like texture issues. What are your textures and are any of them set to not receive/cast shadows? Is there any object that may be casting a shadow over everything? Cris Dopher
  16. make sure the label legend you're using does NOT have non-rotating checked in the Edit Fields part of the LL manager. If you want the text to turn w/ the unit (i.e. text appears at 30 degrees if you turn the unit 30 degrees), make sure the various fields do NOT have "right-reading" checked. Cris Dopher
  17. I am also wondering if this isn't a class issue? Have you set your classes in the problem file to Show/Snap others? Maybe you have to have Show/Snap/Modify going in order to move those tags... Cris Dopher
  18. I can only guess at what's going on underneath, but it looks like the program calculates the object's center taking into account blank data fields! It then centers that boundary on the path, rather than the center of the visible objects. Have you tried this with an instrument that has no label legend? BTW, in 2008, there ARE tweaks to this tool (which is now a command, actually), but even better is an offset by distance tool which is superb for straight arrays and not worrying about where the symbol or group's geometric center "really" is. Cris Dopher
  19. Yes, that's the new way of entering constraints. The Enter key is reserved for completing the object. Cris Dopher
  20. What version quicktime is on that machine? C Dopher
  21. I've had good success with problem pages by exporting the entire printing sheet to an image file, with the resolution at about 120 dpi or higher. Then I just print the image file. May sound like a poor workaround, but it gets your prints out the door. Cris Dopher
  22. Katie has almost certainly got it in her first question. Every time I've encountered the print not coming out correctly scaled in one dimension, it's been a Fit to Page issue somewhere in the print drivers. Cris Dopher
  23. I was just about to ask if you had overlapping palettes, Tom. YOu should be able to just drag the attributes palette around. Check that it isn't docked or something, too. Actually, if you have a big enough screen, you can dock the Attributes palette in between your Basic tools and the Toolsets palettes and life is good. Cris Dopher
