  1. I believe you might have a bad memory chip if this is occuring from version to version but not plaguing other users.
  2. i am using vw2009 for some time now and Christian I think your strategy of upgrading one seat, evaluating, and then going for more licenses when the time is right seems very logical. I do think both you and Brendan will be very happy with the interface improvement and improvements in 2D speed and stability. Let's not even talk about modeling here - we all have to ouput flat ol' 2D drawings to get our job done. I can attest that I have gotten several things done recently in about an hour that would have taken half a day in 2008 or earlier, if I could have done them at all. I'm talking complex polylines with thousands of holes, adding, subtracting, offsetting, etc. Simple things in 2009 have been the most valuable to me, primarily the Loupe, tool object highlighting, and grey others while in groups. It doesn't SOUND astounding...until you realize your drafting time is reduced by a significant margin. Crashes happen, sure...but, eh... maybe some less than VW2008. And I have 2009 set to automatically save the last three backups at 26 minute intervals. Cris Dopher
  3. The extension name change is a reflection of the fact that we're no longer called MiniCAD (which is where .mcd comes from). File format changes, which happen at every major version release, are necessary due to improved capabilities and the need to hold data about objects that use those capabilities. For instance, VW10 has no idea what sheet layers are, VW11 has no clue about layer transparency, VW12 can't do object transparency, etc etc. Cris Dopher
  4. Increase the resolution of the Sheet layer, not the design layer. Make sure you're not doing both a foreground render AND background render. Double-check your artistic renderworks settings from the OIP for that viewport. If all else fails, go back and use the Render Bitmap tool on the design layer, copy, and paste onto the sheet layer. Crude, but highly effective. Cris Dopher
  5. 1. No. 2. can't confirm this myself. has the plugin been updated? Cris Dopher
  6. This certainly sounds like a bug in the ed version. Remember Duplicate Along Path as a command is new to VW2008. Check out VW2009; it should be fixed there. If you're still a student or educator...you can get a free, watermarked copy. Wait a little while though, so that NNA has time to get the newest training CD put together.
  7. Check your label legends. Make sure that all text in them is IN FRONT of the unit in that editing window. The LL controls stacking order with the real unit you use it on.
  8. But then he ends up with unfilled objects. And this is generally a bad idea for text. What about a layer link w/ Project 2D objects selected? How about turning Stack Layers on?
  9. The sampler is still there. But the full libraries of doors and windows come only with the Architect or Design series. You'll find the sampler in VW/Libraries/Object Sampler/Vectorworks Basic.
  10. As it so happens, I've spent much of the day doing a G-scale layout. I've never managed to make the architect's Repetitive Unit tool work for me, but I am finding the new Duplicate Along Path command to be quite handy, especially with preview. Draw my centerline, draw a tie, then duplicate along path at preset distances. Done.
  11. I agree Yancka. The Might Mouse is a terrible mouse for CAD drafting.
  12. 1) Judy Juraczek's "Soft Surfaces" 2) Web image search for "eye-searing ballroom carpeting" or some such 3) Go take a picture 4) Substitute something else, like a wallpaper or quilt pattern vastly overscaled.
  13. Has someone reset the origin in the sheet file or in the referenced files? If so, things will move unexpectedly.
  14. Also, have you upgraded to 12.5.3?
  15. What happens when you use the system's Print to PDF function?
  16. are you turning the class of in the viewport's Classes control, or are you doing it from Navigation palette?
  17. What happens when you copy and paste everything into a new document? CD
  18. The best way is to make a copy of the symbol you used, name it something distinct, then edit the 3D geometry of the symbol - flip everything across the insertion point (the bottom of the base). Now you'll have a new unit you can properly hang, instead of a floor mount unit on top of your pipe. Replace old symbols w/ new as needed. Remember that in a rendering, the light always comes from the insertion point. Cris Dopher
  19. No, but he should be able to see them, move them, etc. He just can't edit them. Cris Dopher
  20. The truss tool is generic truss. Some manufacturers have made their CAD libraries of their truss segments available for free.
  21. Did you use the Rotate TOOL or the Rotate COMMAND? Makes a difference. Also - and I haven't tried this - what happens if you Refresh the instrument?
  22. A new label legend, perhaps? The center of the text is the center of its container.
  23. To reinforce and clarify what I posted: the symbol that contains all your classes should be exported as a DWG, then reimport that DWG when you need to fix your classes... HOWEVER...I have just discovered that this does not give controls over fills and that fills come in the same color as pen for each class. So back to Adam's original problem... are the appropriate classes showing a colored fill? What happens if you change that to white or no fill? I have also run into a problem a couple times where after a DWG import, white fills display as black on screen, but white in the Attributes palette. Haven't figured that one out yet...
