  1. Any time a file takes more than 2 seconds to autosave I break it down. It saves me a little time and adds a bit of security against file corruption. If I'm not working with a model any more but am solely in 2D then paste in place works as well between files as it does between layers.
  2. Go back and edit the title block file. When you open your drawing file it will automatically update. If it is not set to auto update go under Organize to Workgroup References, select the particular file, click update. My setup is made for keeping the TB current in all sheets of all drawings of a given project. If you are looking to have different revision dates on different drawings then that should go on the sheets with the drawing name & number. -- I guess I should say that I reference the TB because shortly after the initial design is settled I separate my drawings; plans in one file, elevations in another etc. [ 04-29-2005, 09:25 AM: Message edited by: Delmer ]
  3. alan, so you are right! I hadn't even looked into that aspect of Acrobat. Opens up a whole new world of potential / can of worms. I retract my earlier caution. [ 04-28-2005, 04:58 PM: Message edited by: Delmer ]
  4. I think you've got as good a handle on it as I do. They don't like rotating outside of the X,Y plane. Duplicate, adjust, recreate is the only option. If you could live with simple 3D symbols as opposed to hybrid you have more leeway.
  5. A small point to the contrary is that at present I like the fact that PDFs are something like digital bluprints. They're not easily manipulable and I kind of rely on that to a certain degree when I give them to people. If they could be imported and adjusted I might love the advantages but I'd have think twice about how I use and distribute them.
  6. John, I don't disagree with anything said here, the wall tool is perhaps THE most used and most useful tool in my repertoire. However, to decompose it simply "ungroup" it. You shouldn't lose your windows & doors. You'll be left with lines and fills. Delete the fills and you're good to go.
  7. Thanks guys, I hope I didn't inadvertently offend. My goal was really not to complain but to learn about how something I (and perhaps others)presently see no use for is in fact utilized by some and thereby find out how I may possibly use it myself.
  8. I had tackled that one before and for a while decided that the only way was to set both fill and pen to black, or convert to 3D Polys and delete the line. Any other color but black would come out with slight differences between line and fill. You would expect to be able to set the line weight to 0 but no go. What I finally chanced upon was to set the pen style to pattern and then set the pattern to none.
  9. There are a ton of superb suggestions in the wish list, some of them very basic. Counterpoint to this, I was thinking to ask what tools people have NO use for. If others then respond maybe we can spread the wealth. For me a couple are: Patterns: Isn't it time we let these go? Does anyone still find them useful? Did anyone ever find them useful? And The Fixed Point Resize Tool: I see how it works, but when do you really use it?
  10. I see your logic. Still, I guess I would start off on a separate layer (layer options @ show/snap others) or in a group (pref set to show others while in groups) and offset a line from the wall to use as a guide. When inserting snap to and rotate to the guideline. You would only have to rotate once, and then drag copies off it. Doesn't really help your current situation, but something to consider.
  11. Here's what I do: Create the title block on a design layer in its own file, 1:1 is fine, include everything but the sheet name & number. Reference that into design layers of project drawings. Don't draw anything else on those particular layers. (only ref once per file) Viewport the TB from its design layer into the sheets. You only need to do this once, you can copy and paste-in-place the VP from sheet to sheet. On the different sheets place the individual sheet names & numbers. 12. Thanks to everyone who weighed in. Its nice to be able to choose little pieces of different people's knowledge to pass off as my own.
  13. I'm not sure about the script, but I do wonder about the need for the symbols to be inserted into walls to begin with. I guess since I don't know what they are I can't say. If you are able to keep your electrical on a separate layer or even grouped in a separate class life gets easier.
  14. It would also be nice if a dwg could open a dwg and recognize the individual's pen settings. Not that I don't agree with you, just wondering how long till the AutoCAD world gets over the custom colored pen thing.
  15. A little aerosol blast every now and then can keep you both from trippin'. Careful of mirrors though.
  16. I've always liked the look and functionality of them, any thoughts of adding them to the repertoire?
  17. You can't quite do the same thing in VW (that I know of). The best alternative is to take a measurement off each item, divide one by the other to get your scale factor, and use Scale Objects under the Tool menu.
  18. You can do a real number on a dimension string if you accidentally hit it with the 2D reshape tool.
  19. Since ACAD doesn't have a VW-like layer capacity, if you want to maintain separate layers you may want to export them separately, to separate files. 20. My guess is that either the plug didn't install properly or is just corrupted in that particular file. Does it work normally elsewhere?
  21. You might be able to get the look you want by inserting a cased opening the full thickness of the wall and then your window in the same location with the parameters you are looking for.
  22. It won't matter what class you use, typically its something like "A Notes" or "Title Block". If you're selecting it from the list A-ANNO-NOTE or A-ANNO-TTLB or A-ANNO-TEXT would all be reasonable. If you want to control the border separate from the text go ahead and make a class for it as well. Obviously make sure you can see them in your viewport in VW, and check also that your drawing is set in top plan in the viewport OIP.
  23. Again, I'm guessing this may be a Mac-only issue. On a PC (with my Logitech mouse) you do have to first click in the scroll area, but then the wheel will work.
  24. This comes up every now and then in my drawings; I want to adjust the radius of an arc through numerical input and the center point of the arc remains stationary while the arc itself moves. Sometimes I want it the other way around, I want the endpoints of my arc to stay as-is and have the centerpoint adjust. It seems particularily prudent if I have chosen one of the "arc by two points" methods to draw it that I be allowed to keep those two points fixed and have the center point adjust. I do know that I can drag the center around, but even though it appears that I should be able to tab and type my desired radius, that don't work neither.
