  1. And so it does on a PC. That's hilarious. Thanks!
  2. Here is likely a simple one I just haven't discovered yet: Oftentimes I am in the object info pallet and would like to simply go back to the main work screen without clicking on it -perhaps I have a plug-in selected and don't want to insert it again. What I do is click back on the title bar of the main window but others must have more efficient solutions. I know its minor but it happens 100 times a day. There has got to be an alt-tab type toggle I don't know about.
  3. Is it possible that the ACAD layer those particular lines are imported in to has arrowheads as a default linetype?
  4. I've had no troubles with tiffs. VW does recognize Photoshop docs though, you could try it as a psd without losing quality. -Or a pict of course.
  5. As pretty much all attest, different approaches for different projects & clients. A recent case for me was a client who wanted a very modern home but purchased a lot with a review committee looking for extremely rustic forms and materials. I model the forms in 3D in VW as I design to aid myself in the visualization. For this client the clean hard lines didn't scare them off because that was what they liked and we could explore options quickly. When it came to presenting to the board I took a 2D line copy off it, adjusted lineweights, used the superb image fill function and then Doodled it. Doodle has a few more options than the sketch command as yet. It turned out everyone got what they wanted.
  6. propstuff, As I was not in front of a class I tried your exercise and it was very interesting. Not all my results were the same as yours, sometimes I got different errors (eg. it may be me but I couldn't get a tangent to come off the left side of the circle downwards). Though I abhor ACAD I tried the same exercise there and it went without a hitch. Note: units were milimeters.
  7. Yes, I did, and they do (I just tried again to verify). This may be too easy but in ACAD you also have to have 'Display Lineweights' checked in the Lineweight Settings (under View).
  8. Just the stud. That's what the framers need to dimension to. Everyone else measures off that. I once worked for an architect who thought the multiline capacity of walls in Archicad was such a great feature that we did a few sets of plans using it. Though you would think that that would allow you to figure out tile patterns etc. it was just chaos. Leaving the detail items for larger scale detail drawings saves a lot of time and confusion.
  9. I recall moving a new workspace from V9 to 10 and it duplicated a whole bunch of the plugins, confusing the program as to which to use. With a backup and some careful deletions I finally got it working. The tech support person I spoke with at the time strongly recommended that previously customized workspaces not be imported into newer versions.
  10. I have had the opportunity to have someone measure while I input directly to a laptop. If the site is a ways away from your office this sure saves time in the long run. You inevitably run into those two walls that are 7 3/16" apart and you don't know where to make up the slack.
  11. ---you need to have that deselected for the line weights to come through.
  12. When you're exporting look for the "Map line weights to colors" check box.
  13. I can't say this is the best way, and its not so different from yours but here's what I do: Same as you, do as-builts hoping the building is somewhere close to true -you can run a tape diagonally from corner to corner to check for discrepancies. When inputting I use a couple of very short walls and copy them to appropriate offsets (drag a copy, snap it to a wall, ctrl m, tab, input #, enter) till all walls are in place. If you think there is a standard such as 1/2" drywall throughout you can factor that in so your walls are just stud thicknesses. Then go around connecting all the wall pieces. When laying out additions or renovations it is prudent to limit (as much as you can) the places where you dimension off the existing. If you can pick just one or two spots, say an existing foundation wall, and then restrict all other dimension strings to new-to-new construction it makes for less headache. Anywhere you have to dimension back to existing construction throw in a V.I.F. (verify in field) note. This is a good topic though, and I am interested to know what others do.
  14. Did you change the .vww on your workspace file to .qtr?
  15. I'm not having the problem you are. Importing through "Import image file" brings in jpg and tiff images fine -though I haven't tried it on anything beyond 2000k yet.
  16. Here's another one: Draw rectangle Use the Split Tool in 'Trim by line' mode. Draw lines from corner to corner selecting the sides you want to keep (the inside).
  17. The closest thing and cleanest I know is the trim tool (scissors icon, not the one in the tool menu). Draw your rectangle and then go around the outside of it clicking on each line or polyline. I've found that if the rectangle is not in front sometimes it will delete the whole line. It would be nice to be able to do them all at once or if the clip tool produced similar results without the problems you mentioned, but this is all I know of.
  18. I agree: mirror tool on duplicate, eyedropper with the "pick up sets defaults" box checked . . . jan15, could you elaborate on macros?
  19. Also, way back when, probably the last version of MiniCad, shortcut keys would toggle back and forth between two tools. For example, select an object, select the offset tool, offset, hit X for pointer, choose another object, hit X again to toggle back to the last tool (offset). I kind of got used to that one. Are others still able to print current view in 11.5?
  20. After reading markswagner's post it occurred to me that the groups that display dimensions in the info pallette were created before moving to 11.5. Objects grouped now are the ones not showing info pallette info.
  21. Most times the x and y dimensions of groups come up in the info pallette. Sometimes though they do not -nothing but simple 2D lines inside. Any ideas why not anyone?
  22. You do know that you can adjust the columns that same as in email or spreadsheets by placing your cursor on the line between two list titles and click-dragging? Beyond that I don't know.
  23. I've heard a number of causes for automatic reboots from partition sizes to viruses. One thing you can do is go into the Properties for My Computer, select the Advanced tab, click the Startup and Recovery button, and deselect the Automatically Reboot box. Then at least you will get an error message that will help you track down the problem.
  24. As a follow-up to my last post, I've put all my plug-ins and workspaces back and am still good. This may be ridiculous but since I don't know about such things I'll mention it: one thing I neglected to do when reinstalling was rename the folder. It is still called VectorWorks 11. Could there be a filepath derailing with it called 11.5?
  25. I run pretty bare-bones, just Outlook and Launchcast running. I do have a fairly modified workspace; in 11.5 I had to change file extensions on Artlantis and Doodle plug-ins, but the crashes don't appear to be related to those activities. I get the "Vectorworks has generated errors . . . " message when it crashes but so far have only lost unsaved work, no corrupted files. Yesterday I hauled the whole thing into the trash (remember I couldn't uninstall), installed 11 off the CD, updated to .01 and then updated to .05 and so far so good -though it has been less than 8 hours work time since then.
