  1. [/QB]Sorry, that cannot be done as of right now. You can only put a "category" that is one of the categories listed in the pulldown menu in the plant reference dialog. If you change it to a name that is not in that pulldown menu, it will select the top most item (a bar accross that looks like ----- ) because it cannot find the new custom name you've given it, in the list of items in that pulldown menu. [/QB] Andrew- Will this be an option for 12.5?
  2. I still can't figure out why this data does not export correctly. So , I have resorted to cut/pasting all of the plants that showed up in the comments boxes into their own spaces in the plant reference data. Good thing it is the off-season!! My only guess is that it is the files in Filemaker Pro that don't want to crossover because I have entered them in a different format?? Has anyone ever ran into this problem before. I am not extremely computer savvy, and I am trying to learn this program on my own with the study material.
  3. i have exported my vwl utility folder list to vectorworks and some of the plants on my list did not show up as individual plants in the database, but as comments 1 in a plant definition. for example: i have 3 different Aesculus species. only one showed up. when i scroll down to the one that is there on the list (Aesculus arnoldiana 'Autumn Splendor'), the latin name of a different (Aesculus x carnea 'Ft. McNair') is in the comments 2 box, and common name (Horse-chesnut) in the comments 3 box. ansd the third is nowhere to be found??? what is the problem? in the VWL plant utility database i did not check either comment boxes to transfer when i exported. just latin name, common name , height, spread, light, and hardiness. how can i get all of my VWL utility list into the plant reference database without this problem?
  4. nevermind... I figured it out. In the Vwl Plant DB Utility you have to go to SCRIPTS/export to VWL and it replaces the .txt file with whatever you have in your database. Easier than expected. Just had to do a little experimenting.. Sorry for wasting anyones time.
  5. I guess I don't understand. I am using Windows, and my database is located in Filemaker 6.0, or also in the VWL Plant DB utility folder (which I replaced). The VWL/Plug-ins/Data text document read by NOTEPAD, so when i go there and try to open either of the above folders it is not recognized because they are .fm filesand not just text files. So this is probably a rookie question but how do I go about it.
  6. How do I go about placing my database there? Do I CUT and PASTE, or export it, or what? thanks..
  7. Robert-- thank you for all of your help... i am sorry for the inconvenience of multiple threads and it won't happen again. --Nick
  8. okay i figured out how to replace all of the plants, it was simply an issue with sorting and showing all records and then saving it to a file. now how do i export this info back to vectorworks so it recognizes the new plants. i tried the place plant tool and it is still using the default plant list. thanks in advance.
  9. I read and understand your last reply and i didnt know if you check back on these posts so i just made a new topic. 1.I have replaced the default plant database in the VWL Plant DB Utility with our plant database. --no problems here anymore. 2.I started to edit Plant Catalog, say i choose to edit a perennial. So I click on P-1, then I click New. Define Plant dialog box opens. Say I want to define Achillea filipendulina 'Coronation Gold'. So I click on Plant Data to find get the data from the plant reference database. --here lies my problem-- The plant reference database dialog box opens after said steps, into what is the default database and not the database that I replaced in the VWL Plant Database Utility. Question: How do I get my plants into this reference database so i can use my own information and not the default info. ---side question: Say i do get my plants into the reference database, and I pick Achillea filipendulina 'Coronation Gold' from my database and Hit okay. (I then need to input height and spread, pick a 2d and 3d symbol, etc.)back in the define plant dialog box. Say i complete all of these inputs and hit okay. ---a new problem arises--- i have the plant in the edit plant catalog dailog box and i looks like this (ACfi-# Coronation Gold Yarrow-#) but.... it doesnt have a 2d symbol in the Graphical Plant List. Just the ID and a small 2 in the lower right corner like the others. Why is there no symbol present here? I know this may be confusing to you but I am trying to take you thru the steps I am taking. Thank you for your help.
  10. when i try to import the plant database that i have on cd the program only recognizes that i have 2 records. when i veiw the cd in filemaker pro i have like 1124 different plant records. how come vw doesnt retrieve all of my plants from the disk? i want to replace the default plants with the ones on my disk. very frustrating indeed. not
  11. we have an existing plant database (in filemaker pro 6.0) that we use for our nursery signs. the files do not all match up to the vw plant database utility files. for example there is no price option for the vw database, i understand that i could put our prices in comments 1 box, but is there an easier/better way to do this? also can i customize the database to make it easier to import our system or do i have to go thru all of our inventory and input each plant as a NEW file? thanx in advance. -earthworker
