  1. Your work flow is backwards to the way we do it. We typically set our sheets to 24x36, and PDFs from them can be printed at that size to scale. If we want 11x17 prints of them in the office because we can print them fast and/or because they are a convenient size to take to a client meeting or the site, we just adjust the scale of the page setup to 50% (if scale is important) or something like 45% if we want to get the whole sheet on the 11x17.
  2. JohnA, you might be wanting a gently curving set of stairs, such as you might see in a park. If so, use the 'extrude along path' command; first draw your steps even as lines in section, group them, then draw a 'path' which you will use as the plan layout for the stairs. Select both, choose the command, select the object for the path, and you will get what you want, I think.
  3. Are you sure you are not seeing either transom lines or threshold lines? Does the door have those included in its definition?
  4. Check out this thread on the Board from 2012: http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=178170 You can get textures and certainly colour without having to dig down into all those polygons.
  5. Mog, disregard my post above. I just easily inserted a Velux skylight directly into a roof object, symbol and all complete with correctly sized opening. Perhaps there is something special about a skylight object (like 3D loci) that have to be provided to do what I just saw.
  6. Mog, I don't believe that (in 2011 anyways) you can actually insert a skylight symbol in a roof object at all. It does what it is doing for you now only, i.e. inserts a hole for it. You do have to place the skylight manually. There is a video on YouTube which I viewed recently which goes over this exactly. Check that out for confirmation. Mitch
  7. I keep looking at your two attachments and they look the same to me; both have treads which are 400 mm wide. Look at it in elevation or section; I think you will see that what you have drawn is what you want. Or do I need more coffee?
  8. Why not just use the Extrude Along Path? Use a circle as the shape and an l-shaped polyline for the path.
  9. You could also set the working plane to a facet of your solid and then dimension in that plane. Repeat for each facet.
  10. Matthew, for clarification: my question would be: what arrangement do you want in the resulting DWG files? Do you want 1 DWG file for the design layers of each of the two files (i.e. 2 DWG files), and another DWG file for the sheet layers? Or 1 DWG file for the design layers of each file AND the sheet layers? The DWG export has improved a lot since VW 2008 too.
  11. Vincent, you're right; this would be great. As it is, we use re-naming software to modify the file names after the fact. We use R-Name which is share-ware and works well. It seems to be abandoned by its developer but is still available at www.macupdate.com/app/mac/12259/r-name.
  12. Jason, This is certainly a work around but it worked for me just now. Select all of the notes on the drawing; use the "magic wand" tool if you have it (I am not sure it was available in 2010). In the Object Information Pallette, turn off their designation as key notes. Then turn them back on again. When I did that, my key notes legend reappeared. Good luck.
  13. Prue, Select your viewport and then in the Object Info pallette, go to Layers and make all the layers visible.
  14. It seems to me that Elena drew the content on the 1:1 layers, then changed the scale to 1:48. Now that content is 48 times smaller than she wants. Elena, try this: select all content on those layers and using the Modify/Scale Items menu item, increase their size by a factor of 48. If there is text in that content, make sure you select the box to scale text.
  15. Markus, New dimensions will use the new setting (for 0 decimal positions) after you set it. It doesn't seem to affect existing dual dimensions, at least in VW 2011.
  16. What version of VW are you using, Knobb? It works the way it should in 2011, i.e. I can still tab over even after using a number key to change the view.
  17. As far as I know, there is no way to indicate to VW how it should interpret the direction of the swing. One door in one wall swinging one way could be construed to be a simple left swing or a reverse right swing, depending which way you are considering or viewing the door. Partly because of this, we have given up indicating the swings on door schedules which we usually prepare in Excel in any case. It doesn't seem to have caused any problem. That information usually comes back to us as part of the shop drawings, both in the door and in the hardware shop drawings.
  18. Kizza, Certainly, in VW 2011, the answer is no. You can set different units for area of your spaces vs. dimensions though.
  19. Yep, Taoist, that file worked fine. Thanks very much.
  20. Alfresco, This may not work because you don't have Architect, but the standard door and window schedules that Architect users can access from the Tools menu, Report/Create Schedules/VA Window Schedule produces a schedule with this information in it. Actually it produces a schedule with everything in it from the door PIO, which is normally way too much. I don't know if you can access this from Designer, or something like it. If not you should be able to create a worksheet schedule that includes those items. Don't try to adjust the schedule; input the desired gap in the PIO dialog box. Perhaps this is not as quick as working from the schedule however. As an architect, I don't generally include RO information anymore. A good contractor will know what the RO should be from the given size of a window, no?
  21. Taoist, Any chance you could post these files in VW 2011 format? For those who don't have 2012 yet? Thanks if so.
  22. I think that you are in fact raising the door in the wall 30 mm above the floor so VW shows that little bit of wall. Just leave the door down at 0 and you shouldn't have a problem.
