We use LDAP authentication and AFP automount for each student that logs in to a Mac on campus. This gives each student their own preferences and home directory, et cetera. In the lab that we are installing VW, we will deploy an image to install as many of the apps that we can. Currently we can do this with everything but Final Cut Pro. This leads to my first question; does VW serialize its installation to the specific hardware of the computer? Should there be any problem imaging it?
The next question is related to serial numbers: We open VW in the local administrator account and enter the serial number. However when a student logs in with their account and opens VW they are prompted for a serial number the first time. We would prefer not to give out the serial number to students but it seems it will be the only solution. Is there a specific preference file that we can pre-populate into students' directories that will keep the serial number?
We have the network dongle on our xserve in the campus server farm. Our tests thus far show there is no problem with the machines finding the dongle.
