  1. quote: Originally posted by Kevin: Robert, that all sounds great, but how do we deal with the extra lines that need to be removed from the "hidden line" view? On top of that, how do we deal with the lines that do not appear? This often happens at roofs or where roofs meet walls. I currently do a "Convert Copy to Lines", Ungroup, and then remove and add lines as needed. With VW 12.0 the hidden line is acceptable, but some lines as you mention do not appear. Worst case is lines that you'd like to erase. I would suggest you simply ADD instead of convert to line (which IMHO creates a line mess). And add white lines where you want to "erase". Not the ideal, but works in the meantime. [ 12-19-2005, 10:48 PM: Message edited by: Ramon PG ]

How exactly do these tools work to do this faster? [ 12-19-2005, 10:41 PM: Message edited by: Ramon PG ]
  3. I second Peter's technique (with great respect for EJ, too). Remember to experiment with added Viewport lighting in order not to have pitch black shadows that may obscure detail in the elevations. Using an analogous technique I also like to add isometric views, which you can further tilt up or down keeping verticals parallel with the Flyover Tool . 4. I find that the same bitmap prints different in two documents. Actually all shading, even in 3D models do too. Both docs. are 24 x 36 being printed 29% to a letter size paper. I checked the print resolution in the document prefs and it is the same. One prints like grayscale and the other with large dots. The same bitmap copied and pasted from one file to another will print as the existing one on the page. So, there must be a setting I must have missed, but I'm lost.
  5. quote: Originally posted by Robert Anderson: Ramon, the DTM section issue has been listed as a bug (B049666). Robert, I appreciate your post. This issue is a very minor one compared to the mysterious giant borders in windows and doors. The problem has subsided in my VW-12 but I am worried that it might come back. I was worried and really pissed by the fact that it seemed a known issue that was not addressed diligently. I can remember a recent e-mail by NNA tech claiming to have temporarily solved the huge borders issue. Upon examining the "solution" it was evident that what was showing was a hole in the wall instead of a window. It felt like adding insult to injury. Again, I do appreciate your post. And all the good faith and experience of everyone at the Tech Board. Happy Holidays

I'm sure there are othesr out there that can donate some resourses also. Outdated VectorWorks training manuals, for example. [ 12-13-2005, 09:55 AM: Message edited by: Ramon PG ]
  7. quote: Originally posted by CipesDesign: Ramon, why don't you go into the VP annotations and add a poly (with a "soil" hatch) over the offending area? I think that's pretty much the intended worflow at this point. Peter: That's precisely what I am doing now but I think I am compensating for a flaw in VW. It is a pain to do a poly on every section and elevation, not to mention that is is totally contrary to the new "live" capabilities of section viewports.
  8. Again? Is there a way of controlling the looks of the DTM so that it does not show "hollow" in Section Viewports? I would like it to show a filled hatch similar to what you can get with Advanced Properties>Attributes>Section Plane. It's very confusing to show what happens below grade beyond the section plane. The DTM shows hollow and you can see all walls below grade. Confusing!!
  9. I have a Vectorworks Foundation One and VW Architect Learning Series CDs that I would be willing to donate to your school. They are version 11. They are ideal for learning the basics.

  11. Jonathan, That's absolutely it, alright!!! Thanks.
  12. mike, I'm not sure that's practical when plotting. The darker shade would have legibility problems in a plan view. I use a lightly dotted fill in plan for new slabs, but when it comes to SVPs the fill is too light.
  13. How can I make the section viewport marker show in all Plans of a two story building at the same time?
  14. I find the Section Viewport's "Use Attributes of Original Objects" extremely helpful when trying to tell the contractor how the building is made up. But I can't figure a way around a limitation... I use a diagonal hatch for existing walls (concrete) but no hatch for existing floors or roof, for obvious reasons. Similarly for new walls, slab and roof. The SVP "Use Attributes..." will show the wall hatch perfectly but, of course no hatch for floor or roof. Is there a way to show a hatch for the floor and roof slabs in section while not in plan view? [ 12-10-2005, 12:34 AM: Message edited by: Ramon PG ]
  15. Will this plug in let you import stuff like furniture, trees, cars, etc? Or is it just for SketchUp architectural info (walls, floors, roofs)?

Can't say why or what stopped it. 1. Try clicking "On Schedule" in the Object Info palette instead. 2. Try deleting old doors and windows and using the stock VW 12 ones.
  18. quote: Originally posted by Robert Anderson: Ramon, you can add an intermediate rail -- I think that is what you are asking for. Set the value of "num inter rails" on the handrails tab to something other than 0. Sorry, Robert but it does not work as nicely as the handrail tool. I can't place an "inter" rail at the bottom of the railing; 12" is the most you can space it. Why the excellent features of the railing tool were not incorporated to the stair tool? Something similar happened to me a few days ago. It was a handrail that I inadvertedly gave a height of a few thousand meters. I noticed the culprit item when I did an isometric view before the doc crashed and was able to delete it. Good luck.

AND do as I say, don't do as I DID; don't convert a halfway rush v11.5 project into v12 yet. [ 12-02-2005, 04:41 PM: Message edited by: Ramon PG ]
  23. How do I add a TYPE field to my Schedules when the field does not appear in the Door or Window Preferences when I click the Settings button? The Help file is so confusing... Thanks [ 12-01-2005, 01:08 PM: Message edited by: Ramon PG ]
  24. quote: Originally posted by Robert Anderson: It got eliminated; we're working on bringing it back. For now, you might want to use the Break Line tool to draw an angled BL across the stair end. Noticed that. And while you're at it, it it possible to have a horizontal balustrade parallel to the handrail? It is in many instances more modern than the vertical one. It could be similar to the railing prefs.
