I start all projects as full interior/exterior Sketchup 3D models, to study the geometry and to export basic 2D views as a start on construction drawings. For me, that's an easier first step in the transition to 3D. But I don't know anyone else who's even doing that. Well, I do. And I am no expert, far from it. I can't do a half decent rendering yet, but I definitely work 3D. I just decided that working in SketchUp and transporting to 2D was too much trouble. I think anything you can do in SU, you can do in VW. Maybe not as fast or nice looking (SU is super nice). But you can definitely get the job done, esp geometry; and while doing your geometry studies you are actually doing the startup phase of your Const Dwgs. And, as I said earlier, any revision done in the model is automatically and geometrically coordinated; icing on the cake.... I am a believer. I'm a bit pissed over v12.0.x lately, but definitely a believer. It is a great step in the right direction. [ 03-02-2006, 10:38 PM: Message edited by: Ramon PG ]

Every demo of viewports that I have seen is done from a 3D model, already prepared ahead of time. We are strictly 2D in my office. I hear everybody raving about viewports being the end-all, be-all, but I just don't get it. Believe. You'll do 50% more work in the same time. You just don't get it, yet; but when you do, you'll have a rushing sensation of power and relief... VPs can be extraordinarily useful. Just doing one simple door or window relocation to a design halfway through the CDs is murder. And clients love to do that to us all the time. A revision in a model (3D) will automatically be updated in 3/4s of your info. That is precisely why I came over from PowerCADD. It simply couldn't do any decent viewporting. And it is strictly 2D. A great program otherwise. Think about it, you are now using your computer as a $4K pencil.
  4. Robert: Thank You, it did work. This particular issue is prob not a bug. No training was required.
  5. Robert: First of all I truly appreciate your concern here. That being said, do you realize that we've been at this (battling 12.0.x inconsistencies, bugs, transient or otherwise..) one way or another for more than FOUR months?
  6. BandA: Not just the frustration, but the loss of time and revenue from having to beta test without consent and then seemingly receiving an upgrade that in turn had to be upgraded because it was deffective. To add insult to injury, the feeling I've gotten lately is that most of the bugs were "known", as so many posts assert in this very forum.
  7. quote: Originally posted by Ramon PG: I kept trying to "reconnect" the Line (sic) Instance since it now will not show a check mark no matter how many times I try. Strangely, the linking does work flawlessly, but still no check mark. Still can't get the Instance to show. No checkmark!!
  8. quote: Originally posted by Robert Anderson: Ramon, this is because any action that will reset the walls or windows will fix the "huge trim" problem. THis is a sort of "transient bug" that occurs only if the walls or windows are in a temporary un-reset state. I am not sure what "any action" means. Can you be specific? And why would that seemingly not work for Compusam?
  9. Compusam: Also try this- Select the huge-bordered window and go to Obj Info>Settings>View>Line Weights and select 00 line weight for Trim. Nothing seems to happen. But, when you go back to the drawing the huge border has DISAPPEARED!!! [ 02-28-2006, 11:30 PM: Message edited by: Ramon PG ]
  10. quote: Originally posted by compusam: The windows PIO in VW 12.0.1 is flawed (and possibly the door PIO as well). I do not think that it is productive for VW users to suck on eggs apologizing for their complaints. I bought VW 12 which is TOTALLY USELESS because of this bug. I am continuing to "work" with VW 11.5, but my confidence in upgrading in the future has been unalterably flawed. Compusam: Did you delete all doors and windows and use v12 built-in ones? At least it seems to have worked for me in 12.0.0 Seems, to me at least, that 12.0.0 and 12.01 mandated new stock drawings be used and not converted ones. And even if 12 is a fantasatic leap forward, it wasn't ready for prime time. Can't believe none of this came up with external beta testers, some of whom I wonder, probably participate in this forum.
  11. Charles: Try analysing this link firsts. It gives you some good opinions on how a few of us do it and why.
  12. I know that, but things over here haven't been as they're supposed to, lately.
  13. dgtlboy: Another quick question: Are you working from a new VW 12.0.1 document or a converted VW 12.0.0 one?
  14. "Ramon, Unfortunately, there is no way to add Remarks. David Drake Tech Support Specialist Nemetschek North America" I find this simply unbelievable. A step back in time...
  15. tim, Go to VW Prefs and deselect the Mouse Wheel Zooms. You can still wheel-zoom by pressing the option key whenever you feel like it.
  16. Jazz, Try deleting all windows (and probably doors, too) and use bthe ones that are VW 12 stock. I tried old windows in a new VW 12 doc and got the same problem. The huge border one anyway...
  17. Never mind... solved that. Now... I was able to paste a "Room" record criteria to the schedule, but that takes its info from the Data tab in the Obj Info window, which has now been abandoned in VW 12. The new records in the Finish Schedule show "Space" criteria but it seems like there isn't anymore criteria to add to the Schedule. So.. is there a way to add such "Remarks" criteria using the new Space and "Asign Room Finish" button? [ 02-23-2006, 09:47 AM: Message edited by: Ramon PG ]
  18. How can you add a column at the end of the schedule in order to eventually add a new resource like a "Comments" column? Selecting the rightmost column and inserting a new one places the new column to the left of the existing one.
  19. quote: Originally posted by Laura Fitch: Is it possible to have a blank column and then fill in line items on the schedule itself, not going to the plan and clicking on the door each time? Is it possible to correct the door itself (example width) on the schedule and have the plan corrected, or the associated attributes corrected? Ahhh... that would be bliss. The next best thing is that you can right-click on the item's schedule number and VWs zooms to the appropriate layer and selects the item for you to edit.
  20. Thanks for the concern, Robert. I am working with v12.0.0 again. I had been working with the doc for about an hour getting no Renderworks rendering, just hidden line. The Section Viewports would not render in v12.0.0 now. #@$&^$% I kept trying to "reconnect" the Line Instance since it now will not show a check mark no matter how many times I try. Strangely, the linking does work flawlessly, but still no check mark. I duplicate the SVP and set it for Final RW, trying anything different to see what happens. Suddenly, it RWs again !!!! All SVPs render as set. This is really spooky. Still, I am really apprehensive a bout going into 12.0.1 again.
  21. quote: Originally posted by Robert Anderson: Ramon, I took a look at your problem. I did a fresh install of 12.0.1, and am unable to reproduce this problem. .... The fact that you were seeing the problem (if briefly) in 12.0.0 suggests to me that something may be strange with the document itself. OR... maybe a fresh install is what is needed. Maybe the installer program is not working properly when upgrading. It is obvious from the posts that almost everyone having problems do so when using an existing or old drawing with a new VW version. This should have been also obvious to NNA Tech since we all use "old" drawings as templates, no? The odd thing here is that some of us have the same problems even when using different OSs. quote: Originally posted by Robert Anderson: If you're unsure about using 12.0.1, duplicate your installed 12.0.0 folder before updating and update one of the VW folders, so you will have both 12.0.0. and 12.0.1. I am a bit apprehensive about this. Won't the installer delete or upgrade to 12.0.1 supporting files outside the VW folder that are now used by 12.0.0? 22. Robert, Thanks for the concern. I cannot confirm right now if the issue is happening in more than one document. I will be trying the 12.0.1 re-installation over the weekend and I'll keep you informed.
  23. quote: Originally posted by Robert Anderson: Ramon, can you elaborate on your "new problems"? Sure. And please, I need some pointers on how to totally uninstall 12.0.1 in order to start from scratch and run side by side comparisons. Reinstalled 12.0.0 is accesssing some of the new features (and problems, mainly Section Viewports not being able to render in Renderworks anymore, just hidden line). http://techboard.nemetschek.net/cgi/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=16&t=001902 [ 02-17-2006, 11:08 AM: Message edited by: Ramon PG ]
  24. quote: Originally posted by bohlr: Section viewports in file created with 12.0 rendered fine with 12.1 Renderworks "rendering" or hidden line "rendering". The only thing I get is hidden line. I'll try to do a setup with both 12.0.0 and 12.0.1 running side by side. Actually I first notice something strange when I could not find the Section Line Instance and now I realize that I cannot attach one either. Now what? 25. Compusam and BandA: I would suggest that you delete all doors and windows and use v12 built-in ones. I was surprised and disappointed to see that 12.0.1 solves inconsequential problems that no one was complaining about. And, at least for me, it brought home new problems.
