  1. Hi, I'm newish to VW and CAD in general but I've started to spend more time practicing and designing on the computer. I notice that my eyes are becoming strained and my vision a little blurry after some hours on the computer (BTW, it's a 20" cinema display on a Mac) I had a vision check up recently and my tests were excellent. My question is, do you reccommend some type of glasses and/or other procedure to help alleviate the strain etc.? Thanks for any advice. John
  2. Hi Robert, here's my scenario; I'm designing bookcases on a wall. I have 2 base cabinets either side of sofa. On top of base cabs are bookcases. I've imported and aligned cabinets in top plan view. Now I want to align in elevation view to make sure bookcase is sitting on top of base cab properly. What is the best and easiest way to have an editable elevation view of my cabinets only without having other symbols etc. in other rooms visible? John
  3. Hi, I'm a novice so forgive simple question. I'm pretty good at plan editing, but I want to edit an elevation of a particular wall which has shelving units etc.. I'm getting all objects in view that is distracting. I can't see a Set 2D view in the menu. Is there an easy way to do this? Thank you. John
  4. Hi, I'm drawing a kitchen plan that has full height openings (sheetrock edges) Is there another way, other than importing a door and making it a cased opening, to make an opening in a wall? Thanks in advance. John
  5. Hi Katie, I tried your suggestion, but I can't import file as it is an .mcd file and is not recognized to import. I saved file to desktop as untitled4.mcd. It's grayed out when trying to locate it. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? John
  6. Hi, I was just sent an email with a dwg file of a kitchen. VW 12.01 loads and file opens, but I'm getting alot of very big solid black arrows. I tried turning off all classes, but they're still there. Any solutions would be appreciated. John
  7. Thanks to all here who have helped people less fortunate than themselves. John
  8. I'm trying to import Custom Title Block-02 into letter sized drawing page. I go to Document settings, choose block. I then drag it to page from resource browser. It's a tiny block and I can't figure out how to resize it to fit my page. I'm able to bring in Drawing label from palette and it's proper size. I was just getting used to 11.5 when 12 came out! Thanks for any help. John
  9. Hi all, I'm working on a 2D drawing in architect workspace. I went to use text tool, no problem. I then went to use callout tool and I get ' A Vectorscript error has occured on this locked plug-in. Refer to the file Error Output for further explanation.' Can anybody help with this? I recently installed InteriorCAD 2.0. Does this cause a conflict. I'm on a G5 dual 1.8 OS 10.4.2. Thanks. John
  10. I've just purchased InteriorCAD and I'm told it's able to communicate with CNC machines. Check out their site at http://www.interiorcad.com/ I can't speak from experience yet, but it is worth pursuing. John
  11. Thanks Katie- I reinstalled VW and ICAD and problem is gone. I'll keep your tip handy in case it happens again. Thanks again. John
  12. Hi, I've been using VW for awhile now and I'm interested in adding InteriorCAD. I'm mainly doing kitchen and furniture design. From my limited knowledge of InteriorCAD, it seems to be more powerful and versatile than VW. Does anybody here have any experience with it? Is it worth the cost and is it easy to use etc.? Any help would be appreciated. John
  13. When I go to insert, say a door, into a wall, I can insert by offsetting from a point (e.g. corner) I can insert by using left, right and center of object. My question is what exact part of object is used to get correct offset? On a door is it from frame inside or outside edge? Can I designate a particular point? I'd like to use edge of trim as it is easy to measure to. Any help would be appreciated. John
  14. Hi Hugo, I'm not an expert or seasoned user of VW, but from my limited experience, it's extremely fast. Now, comparing an iBook or G4 to a dual G5 is not fair. The dual processors in a G5 are well used in intensive rendering etc. Others with more experience can chime in also. BTW, I bought my G5 1.8 dual computer and 20" display in Dec. Display was 1,300, now it's 800. CPU is now 2.0Ghz and updated at the same price 1999. If you go to a 2.7ghz cpu, you'll scream through your renderings. Take care, John
  15. I recently did a training course at HQ in Maryland. As a Mac snob, I brought my own G5 1.8 dual 1gig ram to the training (they only have PCs there) During most of the training, I noticed a slight speed advantage with my Mac, but during intensive rendering, my Mac was ALOT faster then the PCs. The instructor noticed it aswell. As a dual processor cpu, you can see the 2 rendering lines corresponding to each processor working to complete the drawing. This observation is not 'scientific' but at least made my feel better about my mac's performance. Feel free to ask any other questions. John
  16. Hi Mark, Thanks for your reply. I'm off to company HQ next week for 4 day training course on VW etc. I'm hoping to learn somethings about InteriorCAD there also. If I have any questions on my return I'll ask then. I'm excited about being able to design my own projects and hopefully I'll master this software. Take care, john
  17. Hi, I'm about to take a training course on VW 11.5 and I've downloaded a demo version on InteriorCAD 2.0 to try. Is there anybody here using it and what are your thoughts on it? I'm more interested in kitchen and furniture design than straight architecture and I'm also a Mac user, so options on software was narrowed to VW. Any feedback would be appreciated. Take care, John
  18. Hi Broc, thanks for reply. It looks like it's a big help for people like us, we spend more time building and don't have alot of time to fool around with these programs. Take care, John
  19. Hi, I'm thinking about taking a 3 day training course on Vectorworks intro, etc. It's at company headquarters in Columbia. My question is, has anybody done this and if so can you talk about your impressions. I'm a novice, using a mac and I want to concentrate on interiors, kitchen remodels, furniture etc. I own architect and renderworks. Thanks for any advice, John
  20. Hi, I've filled out appropriate info to get 11.5 update (from 11.0.1) How long are you all waiting for email to help with download. It's been 30 min. here. I don't mind waiting, but it seems a little outdated, having to wait. Take care, John
  21. Thanks for the helpful replies. I'm relieved to know about interior cad, looks like it's a perfect fit with vectorworks and my applications. I'm about to purchase both and will post any thoughts. Take care, John
  22. Hi, I'm new here. I'm an mac user, dual 1.8 G5, looking for a cad program that's compatible. I'm a furniture designer and cabinet maker and would like to know if VW is strong in this area. Can it do 3-d photo-realistic drawings of a custom kitchen and then produce a material cut-list in metric? Thanks for any thoughts. take care, John
