  1. I did a search but was unable to find answer. First question is, how do I set set size of dimension numbers. It seems to default to size 12, but when I go to Text>Size>Set size, and put in size other than 12, in my case 4, it still defaults back to size 12. Is there another location that I can't find to set this. Second, I like to use side by side and stacked dual dimensions. I'd like it to be Arch style (less clutter) but it seems to be the standard with the large black arrows (ASME) How do I go about changing to Arch? Any help would be appreciated. John
  2. I'm getting the same problem also. It happens to me when I'm inputing lengths in floating palette and dragging wall to spot. It was leaving a jagged wall and when I checked info in palette it was showing an angle other than 90 etc. It never happened in other versions so I'm assuming it's a bug.
  3. Hi Ray, What do you use? Are you a kitchen designer? John
  4. Hi all, I just ordered VW2008 updating from 12.5.2. I'm using Macbook Pro with display. I'm a kitchen & furniture designer and have been using a Brother LJ letter size and an Epson 1280 photo ink jet. I'm not terribly happy with drawing output from Epson, but it is a good photo printer. I'm looking to get a new printer, replacing the inkjet. Is there a good replacement you'd rec.? I'm not an architect and don't need large format, max. size 11x14 and I will not be using it daily as I have to make what I design! Any feedback would be appreciated. John
  5. Check out Diskwarrior 4.0 from Alsoft www.alsoft.com It's the best disk repair program out there. Check out http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=285913 for other rec. of Diskwarrior. You will be starting up from DW so no need to worry about causing more damage to disk. John
  6. Robert, Using my 60" wall example above, how can I get accurate measurements using sheetrock on one side of stud. Travis's point makes sense as it's measured to centerline of whatever style you choose. Am I forced to apply SR to both sides of studs to get accurate interior measurements. Please by advised, I'm a novice here. Thanks for helping. John
  7. Hi Robert, I want to draw to studs as that is how I measure if there is no sheetrock when I'm measuring. I would then like to add sheetrock after all measurements are imputed. I'm assuming this would be easier to do as I would have to recalculate field measurements to include sheetrock to some measurements or not others depending on site conditions. Since posting last question, I tried playing around with walls. I drew a four sided room with 2x4 studs, 60" square. I then went to OIP and click replace, used my custom wall setup of 2x4 with 1/2" sheetrock on int. only. I then went to measure and I get 59 1/2" measurement. Obviously 1/2" bigger than required. If I replace with preset 2x4 with 1/2" sr on both sides, I get correct measurement of 59". Why am I getting 59 1/2" with my wall as opposed to other wall? I"d love to figure this out. BTW, how do others here field measure framed only locations? Thanks for any help. John
  8. Hi Peter, Thanks for heads up. Here's another question, if I were to draw walls to my stud to stud measurements, can I add sheetrock to walls afterwards to get final finish measurements. As I see it, if I can't do this, I'll have to calculate thickness of sheetrock in my drawing that may cause some mistakes as some measurements were measured to existing sheetrock and others stud to stud. Thanks again. Take care, John
  9. Hi, I'm designing a kitchen, measuring to studs. I'd like to use stud to stud dimensions and apply sheetrock to walls using wall styles. Do I have to deduce for thickness of sheetrock (1/2") or does the wall style compensate for this? Sounds like a silly question. Also I notice in wall styles there is no style for sheetrock on one side of wall only. Is there a customizable section to do this? I'm a novice, be gentle! John
  10. I'm having a problem with a VW12.5 file. It's a kitchen design file and when I went to open it, it says that 'file is damaged and will try to open with as much data as possible'. When I click okay, VW quits unexpectedly. File is 1 of 3. I'm able to open 1 & 3. I do a save as, change #... and then edit and change design etc. I'm also getting window to fill in name and company name. This is usual asw it's already in there. It keeps asking me for this info. I did restart with install disc, ran disk repair. I also ran Diskwarrior. Still problems exists. I'm on a G5 PM 10.4.8 . Any thoughts would be appreciated. John
  11. Hi, I'm looking to buy a macbook pro to help with client presentaions on site. I will probably use it in my office as main computer connected to display. Although I don't do alot of intensive rendering in my presentions, I'd like to make sure I do have enough power to do so if needed. My question is, is the 2.16 ghz model enough? I can add more ram myself, so that is not an issue. Anybody here using one and has any feedback Thanks, John
  12. Thanks for the help. I did end up figuring how to do manually by draging radius line to 30 degree etc. I'll try other ways also to help learn. John
  13. Hi, I want to divide a circle, in this case a table top, into 12 segments, to produce a sunburst pattern. I'm able to do 8 segments by doing hor. and vertical divides and then dividing them. Brain can't grasp how to do 12. John
  14. Check out apple forum at http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=596 Post problem there and you'll get help. I've used 12.5 and itunes with no fan problem (yet) with g5 1.8 dual 2gb ram 10.4.7 John
  15. Hi, I'm looking for bedroom symbols and can't find any in VW libraries (am I missing a secret location?) If not available in VW, is there a place to get them? Thanks for any help. John
  16. I'm designing a kitchen using VW cabinets for presentation. Using the sink cabinet, the mid reveal option is not available for editing (the other reveals are) Is this a bug or am I missing something. Thanks for any help. John
  17. Hi Kevin, I tried to do that. I DC on appliance, select all, go to attributes palette and pick line weight I want, exit and print and it's still the same unchanged line weight. Should I be editing somewhere or what? I can't see where else I can edit this situation. Thanks for any advice, John
  18. Hi, I'm importing appliances etc. into my drawing and when I print, the line weight is very small. I'm using .18 for cabinets etc. but it looks odd to have different line weights. I'm trying to figure out how to change line weight on ap[pliances or any imported piece. Thanks, John
  19. Peter, an excellent suggestion, worked like a charm. I'm now going to try and add a roof to it to put some lights and skylights in. Thanks again, John
  20. Hi Nick, Thanks for replying. As a sorta novice at this CAD stuff, there's smoke coming out my ears trying to reshape in 3-d. I'm viewing my walled room in right iso, I'm clicking on 3-d shaping tool, but I only seem to be getting the ability to create a peaked wall. Any suggestions? It would be great to be able to highlight wall and input additional height to be added to existing wall etc. BTW, I used to live in London in the 80's. Went to college and worked there for about 7 years. Miss it alot. Take care, John
  21. Hi, I'm designing a kitchen in a room with a sloped ceiling. I'm not sure how to draw the walls to make slope etc. Is there an way to do this. Thanks, John
  22. It's a 3D symbol, made in Interior CAD and inserted into VW 12.01. Hope this helps and thanks again. John
  23. Hi all, I inserted an iCAD drawing into VW12.01. The line weight is .05 in the attributes palette, I want to increase line weight, but can't seem to be able. I'm selecting object, going to attributes palette, selecting different line weight, but nothing changes. I do notice when I select object that only corners are highlighted (the outline of the object, in this case a cabinet) Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated. John
