  1. Eureka! I finally figured it out how to use the 3D reshape tool. That you can drag the corner to the center and input Z height for peak and get the wall I want. I was only dragging corner vertically, duh. Thanks for all the great help. I don't usually need roofs, but the walls from roof sounds like a good solution as well. Take care, John

  3. Hi Peter, Thanks for your reply. I did some more research since posting and I found the 3D reshape tool. So I drew a wall and tried to pull from the center of the wall up to height, but seemingly you can't do this? I then drew a half wall and pulled up one corner to height and then copied and flipped so I now have 2 sections creating a wall that I need.I then went to 'add solids' and it did create the wall I wanted. My only problem now is that the wall in the OIP designated as a 'solid addition' and i can't seem to join the walls at corners etc. Is there a way to change walls to be classed as walls? John
  4. Hi all, I'm a light user here, usually only need to draw a regular height wall for most of my applications (kitchen design). I now need to create a gabled wall and I'm having trouble figuring out how to do so. I did a search in wall help, found how to create a wall from a polygon. When I draw an outline of what I think I need it does create a wall but with regular height walls as if the polygon were an outline of a room, not what I need. My question is, how do I draw a polygon that will create a wall with a peak, just like in a catheral room? How do I draw a polgon, polyline that when i go to create a wall, it does so as I need it. Thanks for any help or direction to an appropriate explanation. John
  5. Hi Jonathan, Thanks for your reply. I must say, I'm disappointed that you can't join multiply windows and trim as one. This is done all the time here in construction. I'll try the sash method, but as a builder, I'd like to be able to do this as it is built. Thanks, John
  6. Hi all, I'm trying to apply trim to triple window unit. I made one window, duplicated twice and joined together. I can't figure out how to apply trim to cover all three together. I know how to do single units. Any help would be appreciated. Happy New Year. John
  7. Hi Peter. That did the trick. Thanks, John
  8. Hi Ray, So there's no way to get rid of them, that sucks. They're also on the corners of my cabinets which I make in iCad and there are so many of them, it's visually annoying. Thanks, John
  9. Well I just imported a window into a wall and the x's are still there. Not sure where they are coming from. John
  10. Thanks for that. I did have it enabled. I disabled it but loci are still in drawing. Maybe it only applies to new drawings? Thanks again. John
  11. Good morning, I've noticed for a while that I have x's on certain objects in my drawing. On doors, windows, cabinets etc. I've tried going through my preferences to see if i can find what it is and if I need them. I'd like to not have them. If you know what I'm talking about and know how to get rid of them, I'd appreciate it. They're on the corners of cabinets and center ends of doors, windows in plan view. Thanks, John
  12. Doing further research, I found that there is a video of what I was looking for; http://download2.nemetschek.net/TechTips/Molding.mov My only remaining question is when I make a crown profile with the polygon tool, does it matter what scale it is or is there a particular scale to use? Thanks foe all your help. John
  13. Ray, Thank you for replying. I did see that during my search also, but it was confusing. The instructions are probably great, but if you have a limited knowledge of extrusions etc. it doesn't help. If I have a cabinet on a drawing and I want to put crown around it, what is the sequence of commands I need to do? it says to create a profile object and a path object. This is something I'm not aware how to do. Thanks again, John
  14. Hi all, I did a search before posting but as a novice esp. with trim etc. I'm at a loss to understand how to draw and install a crown molding to cabinets around a kitchen (now I DO know how to make and install in real life!). If there is a video tutorial or if someone here could explain in simple terms, I'd really appreciate it. Also, can I download an existing drawer of a crown? I'm more than happy to explain anything further to help. Btw, I'm using a Mac with Leopard 10.5.8 VW2008 and InteriorCAD, but I think I only use VW for the crown molding!? I have not updated to VW2010 because my version of InteriorCAD was not compatible with 2010 until recently and I do intend to update but I need to complete this before I do as I don't have too much time to learn new version etc. Thank you for any help. John
  15. Thanks Michael, I'm a real light user as you can gather!!! John
  16. Hi, I'm working on a garage project and the interior door going into house is 21" high off garage floor (2 steps). I'm trying to elevate the door in the wall but I can't figure out how to. Any ideas would be appreciated. John
  17. Hi all, I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade to Snow Leopard. I'm an update mac nut, you all know who you are! My dilemma is that I'm a very light user of VW. I design kitchens and furniture and only use VW for the room area and sometimes Renderworks, so I'm trying to see if interiorCAD 2008 works okay with vw2008 and SL, so I don't have to upgrade to VW2010, although it seems to be a very nice upgrade for you architects. I've read the posts here that it seems VW2008 and SL and compatible, but if anybody is using it with iCAD, please let me know if you are happy with it. Thanks, John
  18. Thanks for all the help on this. John
  19. Hi Michael & Pat, the 48/64 input worked like a charm. pdf is now scaled. I can see your point about VW2009 being able to snap to lines in the pdf. It's difficult to find the exact start etc. of a wall for instance. Anyway, now that I got this far, I'd like to use your suggestion of a new layer on top of the pdf. I'm trying to figure out how to do this. I did create a new layer but it took me to a blank layer. So, is it easy to create a 2nd layer that will go over pdf and allow me to trace pdf and then use it on it's own. Thanks again, John
  20. Hi MichaelK, I'm using your suggestion and I have imported the pdf into VW. I'm using a dimension from the drawing as my reference, in this case 4'-0". (BTW, pdf drawing scale is 1/4" and so is my new blank page.) I'm then drawing a line the same as the dimension. It comes out at 5'4". I highlight the 5'4" in the delta Y field in the OIP and choose copy from edit. I then click Modify and Scale objects. I type in 4' for pdf measurement and then try to paste my lenght of 5'4" but it will not paste. I then type it in as 5'4" and try to click OK but all it does is highlight the field I just filed in. Is there a proper way to input the measurements? Could you tell me how to fill that line in knowing my 2 measurements or is there something else I not doing or doing incorrectly. Thanks for your time on this. John
  21. Thanks so much for your thoughtful responses. I'll also look into upgrading to 2009. John
  22. Hi all, I'm trying to figure how to trace over a section of a drawing I have with VW2008 It's a pdf of a plan of a house. It's a very complicated wall layout and I tried to manually transfer, using scale etc. but I got the bright idea of if I could crop the section of the pdf I wanted to trace and import it into VW and then trace around the outline to get an exact duplicate. Is this possible and if so, is there an easy way to do this? I'm a very light user of VW (I only do kitchen design)so any help would be appreciated. Thanks, John
  23. Hi all, I'm a very light user of VW12. I do mainly kitchen remodels, furniture, built-ins etc. I use it with interiorCad for cabinet construction etc. My question is, is there anybody here using the latest version of both (VW2009 & interiorCAD 2009) and is it a dramatic upgrade in usability etc. Can you let me know if you are happy with the upgrade etc. esp. iCAD? Thanks for your time, John
  24. HI, I'm trying to use RW camera in VW2008 like I did in VW12. For some unknown reason, the ability to manipulate camera in drawing is gone? Before I could drag arrows to +/- perspective etc. I'm also being limited to certain angles to aim camera. Also, I'm unable to open settings in OIP. So I'm obviously not doing something right here and would appreciate any pointers to get back to previous functionality Thanks, John
