  1. Dear all, I run into an issue with exporting to PDF, wondering if there's an easy solution I am missing. I've started work on a little square and I thought I'd try using 2D Image fills for some drawings. In the viewport, I can control the opacity of the image fill, but when I export to pdf, the transparency is not exported, unless I rasterize the pdf on export. Is there a way to avoid rasterizing, but to retain the low transparency of the background image fills? I attach a screenshot from the viewport and one of the exported pdf (not using Rasterize) Thanks, D
  2. Such a great idea! Struggled with this myself, every time I wanted to retain the true orientation of the project. Essentially we need an intuitive and easy way to jump between 'project north' and 'true north' - unless there is, and I haven't managed to understand it yet. The plan rotation works great as a tool - but yes! it totally needs the ability to get locked! Hope this gets implemented soon.
  3. I wonder if the UI modernization will be available for both Mac and Windows.. Also, will Windows users finally be able to set a dark theme? Looks great, D
  4. @VIRTUALENVIRONS, yeah unfortunately I am trying to retain the site model as a contoured VW site model! Thank you all for your responses! I have used Jeffs method, making a second site model - however, it reveals a second issue: even though we can modify the top surface of a site model, there doesn't seem to be a way to touch its bottom surface - which means we can't make the site model's bottom geometry follow the roof line bellow it - Do correct me if I missing something here! [I am not dealing with a flat roof, but one that does curvy things]. I resolved this second issue by converting the second site model into 3D polygons and manually editing it - in case anyone has a similar site modeling issue. How nice would it be, if 3D modeling tools (solid subtraction, addition) worked on-site models though?! Best, D
  5. Hello, VW community! I am trying to model the site spilling onto a roof in VW. I am attaching a sectional sketch of what I am trying to achieve. Essentially I am trying to spill the site topology onto a roof (green bit) - however, the site modifier makes a clean vertical cut. Does anyone know if we can do 'undercuts' with site modeling, or has anyone got a suggestion on how to model this? Best, Demetris
  6. Hi, VW community! I've been using VW for a few months now. I find it particularly hard to learn (even the basics) of site modeling, and I thought I'd ask for some help! The VW features videos showcase really nice and fluent site modifying abilities, but I can't really find any recent in-depth tutorials online that would explain things step by step. For example: I am struggling to understand how to use site modifiers (beyond planar pads.) I can't understand how to nest modifiers or make any smooth transitions between modifiers and the site model. I am not able to easily make modifiers with subtle slopes, which transition smoothly to the site. Site models sometimes behave in funny and unexpected ways. I can't seem to extend the limits of the site model easily by adding stake objects (as seen in tutorials online) [I am attaching two images - a site scan, and my ongoing site modeling.] Can anyone point me to any recent in-depth online tutorials for these issues that they know of? I also wonder if anyone is offering any crash courses/assistance in site modeling - with reasonable fees! best, Demetris
  7. Hello! This keeps happening to me too very often regardless of updates. [VW architect] I use 2 languages on my pc - English and Greek. I have a hunch that this is what makes the ctrl key shut down. I've noticed that many times when I lauch VW while the keyboard is set to Greek, the ctrl key will not function. I have to restart VW with English as the keyboard language initially to revive it. I am pretty certain I see this happening both on my PC and my MAC laptop - and in both computers I switch between the two languages often. I am not sure if this is a coincidence @net, but in case you are too using two languages on your pc, it might be it. Would be nice for VW to look into it as this is a quite often occurrence.
  8. @Frank Hughes, I am attaching a previous post I made a month ago about similar issues. It looks like VW is quite limiting in the point-cloud workflow field..AutoCAD is superb when dealing with point-clouds, as it allows the architect to see well and draw over with precision. In my very limited experience in VW, I think your methodology might be the best to work with what's available at them moment..
  9. thank you for your responses all, I am quite new at VW and I've learned a lot from your comments. @markdd,had no idea that you could have multiple views some with design layers and some with sheet layers! This works great for me - and especially the 'create floating frame' is excellent for people using more than one screen monitors. @Pat Stanford, the 'edit layer' command, is great - sometimes laggy on my pc and I am trying to avoid it. Also didn't ever catch that you can filter the layers on the list, thanks @Mat Caird @Elite Exhibits the saved views one caught me be surprise. It's brilliant, I love how flexible VW can be. best, D
  10. Hello, I am wondering if there's a way to quickly navigate from the sheet layers to the design layers and vice versa. I find myself going back and forth resolving issues and it feels slow to have to click to the 'layer' icon on the navigation tab and click to select the desired layer. Is there a shortcut that takes me 'back' to the design layer I was, or the last sheet layer - without having to search for the icons and select the design layers each time? Thanks, Demetris
  11. An update, I shut down Vectorworks and opened the file again - I can select them now, so it must have been a bug.
  12. Hello, I am having an issue with doors - I place patio doors (tried different types and models). After I place them, I cannot select them to change their attributes. I can only undo to get rid of them. I am attaching a video. Does anyone know why that happens? My layers, and classes are set to show/snap/modify and the wall appears to be unlocked. I also hit the 'j' key but there's not a list to pick the door element. Best, Demetris Screen Recording (04-03-2023 1-48-05 pm).mp4
  13. Aha! Thanks Tom! New trick! Best, D
  14. Hi @Tom W., Thanks a lot for your response. Good to know.. No, I haven't thought of that as I was under the impression that any clipping on the walls will result to them turning into solids. Could you guide me a little with the roof clipping commands? Appreciate it, D
  15. Hello! I wonder if anyone can help. I am doing a scan-to-BIM project and we've surveyed an old house with crooked walls. I am having issues with the accurate modeling of the walls. The 'wall join tool' is not giving smooth results and I wonder if it's something I am doing wrong or VW gets confused in the joining process with walls that are not square. I am attaching some screenshots in case someone can help. (i've used the 'fit walls to objects' tool and fitted them to the roof..) Thanks, Demetris
  16. Just to add to the previous experiences as reporting the communication issues helps the VW team to fix them. I've transitioned to VW about 5 months ago. I've contacted the service select twice for issues I couldn't understand how to fix. Both times, the allocated VW employee of my account responds relatively quick and cc's specific technicians on the thread to assist me with the issue. Both times, I never heard back from anyone, event though I'd send them a follow up email. It's not polite or normal! I don't see a reason to choose service select again..
  17. It would be nice to modernize the 'fillet' and 'chamfer' tools - and make them work similarly to the 'tapper face' tool. The 'taper face' tool interactively ghosts the outcome of the operation, allowing a tuning of the angle that pleases you before you click. At the moment the fillet and chamfer tools require you to predetermine the desired radius/length and preform aesthetical guesswork resulting in constant 'undos'. I believe that Fusion 360 has mastered the interactive approach to tools and I attach a video of the fillet command (the chamfer/taper/shell work in the same way). Notes on the desired VW functionality: 1. The awesome part of the fusion360 fillet command is that you get to set increments - for example, you can set the tool to cycle through 5degree changes in angle - unless you type a specific angle. 2. Filleting/chamfering/tapering multiple faces/edges in one go is also a feature I really miss - and a real speed booster. Dem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_JzI2zdA_c&ab_channel=The3DGuy
  18. I think it's important for VW to upgrade it's pointcloud visualisation machine. Lidar scanning increasingly becomes necessary for complex projects and renovations and it would be great if VW received larger files - perhaps deploying a LOD logic (don't know how unreal engine/Autocad/Recap does it, but large files run smoothly without downgrades). At the same time it's important to allow users to see pointcloud data well. The only usable mode is true colour at the moment - so one is limited by the quality of the lidar machine's camera. Autocad is extremely well made to receive and present pointcloud data and it would be a game changer for VW to allow the same level of visual performance. I am attaching a video of some scan data we made in Nicosia, Cyprus which are being shown in a preset Autocad colourscheme. I believe it shows how clear the depth is communicated - assisting the architect to model/draw efficiently around the data. Compared to the VW custom gre yscale colour-scheme that takes away all depth data:
  19. Hello! I am quite new to VW. I am an architect and I am trying to tune my custom titleblock. Usually my sheet numbers are numbered (1,2,3,4 of 14 lets say) but my drawing numbers have a prefix (A-01, A-02, indicating that it is an architectural drawing instead of Mech, etc). At the moment I have to click on each sheets 'sheet data' and manually change the drawing number. Is there a way to avoid that? A way that VW automatically generates the order unless I manually edit a sheet? At the moment, if I add a drawing between others, the stacking order might automatically change, but I'll have to go through each drawing number.. Also, is there a way to batch edit prefixes in sheet numbers? Best, Demetris P.S. Its my first time posting here, not sure if this the right space to post questions to the community. Let me know if I should create a post elsewhere!
  20. Hi all, I am trying to learn vectorworks and the orbiting is driving me mad! (I come from fusion). I think I figured the solution Rohantheboat. I haven't used sketch up before but I was trying to recreate the fusion orbiting style which goes like this: - to change the orbit center, you hold shift and MMB. Because orbiting is done with MMB it becomes really easy. Not sure if Sketch up is similar. Solution: In vectorworks 2023, if you hold ctrl+MMB the viewport naturally orbits. If you click twice anywhere in the viewport using the MMB, the orbit point changes to where you MMB-double-clicked. So it's almost identical to fusion, but instead of 'shift+MMB', its 'ctrl+2XMMB'. Hope this helps. Demetris
