There is no toggle for up/down. Stairs are always made from the lower floor. The upper flight will always show DN and the lower stair will always show UP.
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.
If I place a stair and specify the overall height by layer elevations in the General tab of the Stair Settings dialog, the arrow on the stair symbol in the upper level points up (the directional text is also "up"). Are you saying it should point down?

Tom,
On the Mac, the VW crash log is located in ~/Library/Application Support/VectorWorks/12/Error Output
Don't have an XP system close by, so I look up the path, but you should be able to find it by searching for "Error Output".
A couple of things that might work, based on things I discovered (on my own) in the process of going back-and-forth with Tech Support for six weeks over a series of crashes in 12.5 that they claimed not to be able to duplicate (because, in fact, they were using 12.0.1 on a DIFFERENT HARDWARE PLATFORM under a DIFFERENT OS version than the one I'm using, but which QA verfied was caused by a bug in 12.5):
1) try unlocking the plugin (you may need administrator privileges to do this. While you're at it, change the user privileges to give yourself both read and write privileges.);
2) remove the Callout tool from the Workspace then re-insert it. (Do this to a copy of the Workspace just to be safe.)

While the 3d center-of-rotation marker does serve a userful purpose and it does disappear while rotating or zooming in flyover mode, it reappears when the action is finished.
The problem is that I do a fair amount of interactive conceptual modelling when meeting with clients, and some of them can't mentally blank the thing out when they're looking at a static 3D view onscreen, and even those who are able to blank it out find it distracting. (It also makes it next-to-impossible to take a quick screenshots that can be e-mailed to a client without post-processing to edit it out.) It would be less of an issue if the marker could be placed inside or below an object, but it's superimposed on the rendered scene, so it sticks out like sore thumb.
I understand why it could be important to know where the point of rotation is: I just don't see why it's necessary to have it display 100% of the time in 3d in all rendering modes. At the very least, give me the option of turning it off and on as needed!

I had already tried both suggestions before posting. Neither one works.

SHAME ON YOU, NNA!
An "upgrade" should improve and/or ADD functionality, not remove it.
Concrete and masonry stairs are ubiquitous, so the absence of masonry and concrete stair options is not only nonsensical, but completely unacceptable.
BRING BACK THE MASONRY AND CONCRETE STAIR OPTIONS!

That's a mighty mouse issue, not a VW issue.

Is there a way to hide or turn off the 3d origin marker in flyover mode?

I know NNA (then Diehl Graphsoft) continued to support 68K machines for many years after the release of the PowerPC-based machines.
No doubt Apple and its developers will continue to "support" PowerPC-based systems for a period of time going forward; the real question is, will it be anything more than life support? More to the point, how long will, NNA continue to improve and upgrade VW/RW/Industry Series for PowerPC-based hardware? Will there be a PowerPC version of VW 12.whatever eighteen months from now that is functionally equivalent to the the *tel version?

That may be true for hardware; the question is, will Nemetschek continue to update and upgrade the Power-PC-based version of VW (assuming they haven't killed future development of the Power-PC version already)? What about Maxon (Cinema 4d), Maxwell Render, Informatix (Piranesi), etc.? What about Photoshop? Does anyone truly think it makes business sense for Nemetschek or any other software company to continue to pour money, time, and other resources into a shoring up a technological and economic that's already a dead end?
No doubt, companies will continue to "support" the current version and squash a few minor bugs, but does anyone really think there'll be a G4/G5 version of VW 12 that's functionally equivalent to the Intel versions?

quote:Originally posted by D Wood:FsungWell, that's terrifically useful if you really want to run Photoshop 3.0 in Classic mode, but since a heap of other 3rd party providers aren't ready for OS10.4, some early purchasers may not even get off the line. From the Apple discussion board, there are problems for example with Logitech cordless mice and Retrospect backups, and as I run both those, I think it would be prudent to wait a while. I'd rather trundle along at the present speed than stall completely - Apple is a wonderful company, but notorious for less than perfect first issues. I'm just urging caution, especially if your business relies on this system.RegardsDavid WAuckland, NZiMac 17", OS10.3.9, VWA 11.5
David,
I understand your caution concerning a x.0.0 release, however, as I pointed out in my earlier post, "everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) is faster, more stable, and more secure," including to Classic applications, not simply to Classic operations, as your reply implies. To cite but one example, I re-rendered a 3 minute, 30 FPS, 800x600 FQ Renderworks animated walkthrough that I had previously rendered in 10.3.9 to compare the rendering speed. In Tiger, the render took just over 41 hours (41:03:51) , as compared to ~67 hours (66:58:39) in 10.3.8.
Maybe I'm just lucky, but I have had zero hardware issues to date with my Logitach Cordless Optical mouse, UMAX Astra 3450 scanner (which UMAX never got around to supporting on OS X to begin with), my Syquest 44Mb removable SCSI drive (circa 1989), or Firewire HDs, nor have I had problems with Retrospect. To date, the only issues I've had are with VW Online help (not a big issue for me since I rarely use it) and with Apple's decision to eliminate the sliding trays in Mail and hard-code the Mailboxes on the left side of the Mail window.
And, as my business relies exclusively on my G5 and a 500MHz ibook, and Tiger appears to have solved several anomalous behaviours I was experiencing in VW 11.5 running under 10.3.x?e.g. fonts not updating in documents, having to issue two CMD-Qs/CMD-Ws to quit VW/close a file, crashes when editing certain symbols, objects visible in sheets and design layers not printing, to name a few?I'm more than pleased to have made the jump.
Bottom line: make the jump when you're comfortable making the jump; in the meantime, mark me down as a very satisfied Tiger convert.

This is somethng that should have been done YESTERDAY!!!
There are already Spotlight plug-ins that allow searching, deep indexing, and importing of metadata for Graphite (Ashlar-Vellum)), MacCAD (Microspot)), and Archicad (Graphisoft) posted on the Apple Downloads website.

The panning icon is quickly displayed, than snaps back to the 2D selection tool. When I want to duplicate an item, I used to hold down my Alt key, and I could rubber stamp things easily ... no more. When I go to the online help by pressing F1, I can view the subjects, but I cannot click on a topic to view. When I hold down my shift, I usually got my different degree rotation options, now it doesnt seem to work.Any ideas??thanks
I'm not seeing the panning problem or the duplicate item problem: both work as expected.
Online help does seem to be broken, though: the topics display, but clicking them does nothing. Doesn't matter if I invoke Help from F1 or the Help menu. (Not a big issue for me since I rarely need to use the online help, but it does need to be addressed. Hopefully, Nemetschek will fix it in the next couple of weeks.)
Not sure what you're referring to regarding rotation options. I've always simply right-clicked on an object to access editing options (cut, copy, paste, send and rotate sub-menus, object properties pallet). Right-clicking still works for me.

quote:Originally posted by D Wood:[QB] For those still on VW10x and being careful with your money - I think the upgrade to 11.5 was more valuable to me than upgrading to OS10.4 Tiger could be./QB]
I can't speak for others, but for my money, the upgrade to VW 11.5, though valuable in terms of the improved capabilities, doesn't begin to compare with the value of Tiger, because VW 11.5 improvements are program-specific, while Tiger's benefits are system- and application-wide. I installed Tiger on an external drive for testing purposes a little over a week ago, and I can report that everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) is faster, more stable, and more secure. I benchmarked Photoshop 3.0 running in Classic mode, just for the heck of it, and it runs anywhere from 8-15% faster, depending on the operation, in Tiger than it ran in Jaguar 10.3.9.

Um ... actually, no need to drop even as much as a plugged nickel on a macro program for Mac. AppleScript, which has been an integral component of Apple System sw since at least System 7.5 (maybe 7.1), can record and save keystrokes and/or mouse clicks.

Forgot to mention: 2.0 G5 Dual, OS X 10.3.7.
I'm not using an alias. I'm launching VW directly.
Also, the various symbol libraries are no longer accessible by default in the Resource Browser. Every time I need to access a symbol, I have to select "Browse a File" in the "Files and Folders" menu of the Resource Browser and open individual symbol files until I find the one I want.
Pardon my saying so, but this upgrade is a screw-up of MAJOR proportions. I've had to wipe 11.5 and reinstall 11.0.1 twice to try to get the upgrade to work, and every time I turn around, something else is broken or doesn't work correctly. I'm frustrated enough at this point to ditch VW for a CAD program that isn't going to cost me 2-3 days every time I try to upgrade.
-
Just installed the 11.5 update. The installer says the update was successful, but I'm now getting the above error message whenever I launch VW or attempt to create or modify a workspace, a palette, or menu, and none of the improvements work (sketch, trim, volumetric analysis, etc.)
Also getting the error message:
"The following Plug-ins are not in the Plug-ins folder: Document Setup Model Setup Create Standard Viewports Standard Naming VA Set Project prefs Door Hardware Library Room Finish Library VA Records and Schedules Workspace Editor Issue Manager B"
What's going on, and how do I fix things?

Any improvements to the stair PIO? (Come on, NNA: if you can't work out a worldwide license for the German stair PIO, at least provide us with contact info for the German distributor so individual users can contact them directly about purchasing it.)

Ethan,
Try adjusting the scroll increment in your mouse preferences control panel. In the Logitech CP, one click of the wheel moves half a page when the increment is set to "Medium"; when it's set to small it moves a quarter page: still too larger, but better than half a page.
FWIW, take a look at USB Overdrive. It works with any USB pointing device (mice, trackballs, joysticks, game controllers, etc.), has many more options, and offers finer control. More importantly, at least to me, you can configure global and individual application preferences.

A dongle is a piece of hardware is a mechanism for ensuring that only authorized users can copy or use specific software applications, especially very expensive programs. Common mechanisms include a hardware key that plugs into a parallel, seria, or USBl port on a computer and that a software application accesses for verification before continuing to run; key diskettes; and registration numbers that are loaded into some form of ROM (read-only memory) at the factory or during system setup.

Some companies allow users to install the same license on both a desktop and a laptop as long as only one copy of the program is running at time. I don't know whether or not Nemetschek permits this. I suggest you contact Customer Service.

quote:Originally posted by Hunter B:You should be able to double click on the symbol to edit and then just select the Loci and change the class...... in theory.
Double-clicking the symbol produces a "The selected object has no edit behavior" error message.
-
quote:Originally posted by Hunter B:Just set it to a class and make it non-visable
How?
The HC toilet stall symbol, for exmple, contains four loci. The only way I have found to change the loci's class is to convert the symbol to a group and ungroup it, but once you've done that, you lose the ability to manipulate the object's parameters in the Object Info Palette. I need to be able to make the loci invisible without losing the ability to manipulate the object in the OIP.
-
Is there a way to delete loci from hybrid symbols without losing the ability to edit the symbol's geometry or attributes or to set the visibility of loci that are embedded in symbols to invisible permanently? I know you can use Custom Visibility to make loci invisible, but they revert back to visible when you change the active class.

I'm trying to create a DTM using 3D triangles in Architect 11 on a 2.0 GHZ G5 Dual w/1.5 Gb RAM running OS X 10.3.7. So far, the thing has been running over 4-1/2 hours, with no end in sight.
Out of sheer frustration, I fired Architect 10.5 on my 500 MHz G3 iBook with 384 Mb RAM running OS 9.1, because I remembered creating far larger, far more complex site models on it in the past in fairly short order, copied the file over, and created the DTM. Time to complete: under 2 minutes.
THAT IS RIDICULOUS. Will someone explain to me why it's taking a 2.0 GHz G5 Dual with 4 times the RAM over 140x longer to process the same file as a 500 Mhz G3 iBook?

Spinner,
Hmm ... I downloaded the 12.5 file to take a closer look, and the 2D symbol shows as 271x882 pixels on my system:
What happens if you delete the entourage symbols, purge unused objects, and re-insert the entourage symbols?
