  1. Same here. I don‘t have Facebook, but hear the Q&A is like a second screen to the forum. Is there another way to see them?
  2. Nice one! Will save a lot of rendering time. When I would make a 2d copy to polygon, can I use the same texture – converted to an image I reckon – as I use in the 3d part? And will this 2d version follow the same geometry?
  3. What file did you ise for exporting to stl? Most of my files with walls/doors/stairs are fine in cura…
  4. Just that. Cura takes care of walls and stairs and doors. Just File > Export > Export as STL. Import in Cura to check scale, support & brim and you’re good to go. Maybe adjust the nozzle size and speed but that’s it.
  5. I normally think of screen plane as subtitles. Regardsless the 3d view you’re in, you can add texts etc. to give more information as an overlay.
  6. … or maybe restart the machine?
  7. Dit you try another render method than OpenGL? I found OpenGL had light shining even through walls…
  8. I follow the Forum on Mobile to beta test new iOS quirks. Used Nomad uploading the file vis GoogleDrive & put it on my coffee table. I saw all textures on materials in both walkthrough and AR. Walls have shadows, but there is no floor. Funny thing, I could click on the glass to make it transparent… Don’t know if that is a bug or a feature, but it looked kinda cool! Looks like your render settings were a big help to do so!
  9. A camera is actually an alias, it doesn’t add content to the file. If you you a reference file it needs to be loaded in your print file as well, right? I’m not that much into ref files, but loading external content doesn’t sound ‘light’ to me… Making symbols of repeated objects slims down the file as well since it will become an alias of the object put in the drawing. I myself find a lot of benefit in cleaning up my files before rendering & using light sources (Tools > Purge).
  10. Once you have a camera in a Design Layer, you can make it available as a view port in a Presentation Layer & print from there - no need for seperate files. Advantage of PL over DL is, that you can have multiple cameras, views and scales in the same print. Just hit File > Print to get a hardcopy from the PL.
  11. Hi @dominijk Did you try and make a viewport from that camera & have that printed from a presentation layer? Just double tap on the selected camera in your floorplan and make that 3D view a viewport with Menubar > View > Create Viewport.
  12. It’s in the Attributes Palette (ctrl+shift+a in Windows or cmd+shift+a on a Mac). Next to the bucket is for the fill, next to the pen is for adjusting line weight & color. Fill should not be on None!
  13. Where is Nomad in this scenario? If you’d send them a link they have a fortnight to watch the file, right?
  14. I’m sorry things didn’t work out for you this time… Did you give the NewUser-option a try? Are all other drawing behaving like they should?
  15. If you’d make it a nurbs, can it be tricked using the 3D modelling > extract surface option? Will it have holes in it because of the alpha channel? #imcurioustoo
  16. Could this be done as well using an alpha channel in a perforation texture applied to the curved panel (like you ‘normally’ do for a fireplace). The glow will come through the perfs as well, but the texture can be adjusted more easily afterwards…?
  17. Sorry for double posting the fill question…: Does the poly have a fill when you render it?
  18. @Marconi Weird! It’s like the link within VW to RW is broken. I used to wait as long as I could reinstalling my copy of VW, since all the custom prefs and workspaces had to be done again as well… And what would happen if you’d make a new user and do a clean install? Maybe some other programs you have interfer with RW… 🤷‍♂️
  19. @Marconi Maybe you won’t have to reinstall the complete app. This might work in your case as well: - Close Vectorworks 2018. - In the Finder menu bar goto Go with ALT key pressed and choose Library. - Delete (or better: move to new folder onto desktop) the .plist files associated with VW2018 that are located in the Preferences folder. - Restart laptop & log in. - Restart Vectorworks app. - open just that one drawing, no other tabs. Good chance rendering will go fine. I hope… 😉
  20. What is your definition of cluncky? When you have a good story and impressive (hardcopy) renderings, the client is amazed with yet another way of being impressed. Maybe for now we shouldn’t present it as top notch, just a way of a virtual 3D walkthrough…
  21. Did you try and see if ctrl+alt+shift+d will be able to do the trick for you?
  22. @Marconi Did you try and render the file on a different machine? I often find my students struggling with lots of imported items from exernal libraries that are not made with Vectorworks. Seems that applied textures to symbols or groups with (too many) many 3D polygons won’t make the video card happy…
  23. Maybe it has something to do with the end of OpenGL support by Apple? It is said ‘that OpenGL is woefully out of date for current needs’: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/06/the-end-of-opengl-support-other-updates-apple-didnt-share-at-the-keynote/ Last WWDC Apple showed (again) their own Metal as a more modern platform. Will VW2020 support this rendering method as well instead of OpenGL?
  24. I’d second that! Moving threads like this to the AR/VR room will be a good start for that section… 🤓
  25. Yeah, you even could share your presentation just during a walk in the park. A Dutch developer and a Dutch artist cocreated this app: My_big_lamp by Adriaan de Jongh. The longer you point to an object the bigger it gets.
