  1. I think an explanation of how changing the export and print parameters (within the Document Preferences interface)affects the subsequent results would be helpful, since there doesn't seem to be any detailed documentation on this. Perusing the General Discussion forum, it appears there are a few questions about this topic(s). Thanks.
  2. You could try to create a GIANT cylinder around the building and then apply a sky texture to it (I believe there are a few different sky texture/shader options within the Lightworks interface). I've done this before with mixed results. Directional lights can create glare and, of course, unwanted shadows. Shadows can be eliminated via the Object info palette, but glare is another story. Good Luck.
  3. Sorry - I should have been more precise. Yes, you do need to have Renderworks installed. The tool is called a (believe it or not) "Render Bitmap Tool" and it is a single command palette that resides in the Renderworks workspace. And, to take the topic a bit further, I do indeed render bitmaps, then export them and use them in conjunction with Adobe PhotoDeluxe to do image compostion (typically combining a rendered model with a photograph of building site). Hope that helps. Jack Fulmer
  4. Don't know how similar the 1120 is to the 1220, but have not had the resolution problem you are referring to. However, the driver can act a little wacky every now and then. I've had it add ghost images consisting of red and blue horizontal lines on either side of the image. I most often render as bitmap and then print that image. JF
  5. I am finding that VW crashes/hangs when I try to edit the attributes of an existing class. In one particular case, I am editing the class by checking the use attributes at creation box, and changing the line color. Is this a known bug? I do have multiple plug-in objects, in particular arched openings in walls and complex windows with segmented arch tops. Could it be that the program is hanging on the recomputation of all those objects? Or is there possibly some type of file corruption? Thanks......Jack Fulmer
  6. Yes, I deduced as such, shortly after submitting my post and subsequently consulting the Works Tutorial. Something led me down the Edit Group path, and everything went fine. Thank you for the response. Sorry to bother. JF
  7. Happens to me all the time also within the following parameters: Insertion within a wall of a plug-in object accessed via the AEC Objects palette such as window (simple or complex), door(simple or complex), or an opening in wall. The insertion works fine, it's just that you have to "redraw" the screen to see the result. If you didn't know better, you would think that the object was not placed. I usually, zoom out and then zoom. It's not a horrendous problem, just annoying. And from my memory I don't think this occurred in 8.0, but not sure. BTW - Using v8.5.1 with Renderworks installed on a 600mHz P3 with Win98 and 256Mb RAM and a 32Mb Riva TNT2.
  8. Yes - I always have this problem. Using Win98 PIII 600, 256RAM. I assume it's a bug. But hey, not as bad as the frequent OpenGL rendering crash that I experience on a regular basis.
  9. I am following the "simple" 3-step directions for reshaping a roof face (page 14-43/44 of the user's guide). However, it is not working. I've tried it from several different Orthogonal views - Back, Top, Front, as well as Plan. Is there something I'm missing?
  10. You might want to look into the HP1120. I use it for 11x17 proofs and presentation material. It's an excellent printer and very fast. Plus, you can use standard paper. It will handle 13x19 for 11x17 bleed purposes. Also is a tremendous photo printer.
  11. I recently installed Adobe PhotoDeluxe software, which subsequently installed Adobe Type Manager. The result is that more fonts were added to my system. However, when trying to use some of those new fonts, the only result is a change in size of the existing font (i.e., font doesn't change). Anybody else run into this problem. And/or is there a limit to the number of fonts that VW can handle. This problem I am having with the change in size only is limited to the font selections at the end of my font list. Thanks
  12. I have approximately 500 theater seats that I created in a drawing. They have been saved and inserted as symbols. The 500 seats are comprised of only three different symbols (seat with left arm, seat with right arm and seat with both arms). However, it seems that the sheer number of symbols is greatly, I mean HUGELY, slowing down the rendering process - whether Raymaker or as bitmap. My question is - will a large quantity of symbols slow down the rendering process, even if the large quantity is comprised of only three different symbols. Is there a method of insertion that will speed up the process. I have to have this quantity of seats in the plan. Thanks
