  1. Is there a way to prevent the graphic display settings from changing when double clicking to edit an extrusion? When I edit an extrusion, the view becomes transparent, making it almost impossible to edit the extrusion relative to its context. I have also found that the camera moves to a new perspective sometimes but not all the time, and sometimes displays the extrusion in an entirely new orientation and position, which reverts to its previous position when I exit the edit. Today I found that when I edit an extrusion, all of the inputs of my 3D Connexion space mouse are changed until I exit the extrusion edit. or to avoid this problem, does anybody have any ideas on how to model a custom tapering curved glu-lam beam? The project will have 4-6 of one kind, and 4-6 unique beams.
  2. oh and while I'm at it, a third question I've been meaning to ask is about pre-selection highlighting. I am aware that there is a toggle for pre-selection highlighting, and graphic settings for the color of pre-selection, but the toggle doesn't seem to actually disable pre-selection highlighting. When I have it toggled on, mousing over an object turns it the pre-selection color, but when I have it toggled off, it still pre-select highlights, just in gray.
  3. Two different questions related to one drawing: First, I have two walls which need to be distinguished as existing and new construction meeting in an interior elevation, and the elevation drawing shows a line separating them. Is there a way to hide this line (other than drawing a white line or box over it in 2D...)? And second, I have a tub with a whole bunch of unappealing isocurves running all over it, visible in plan and elevation - is there a way to have this object drawn in low detail or without isocurves? thank you
  4. 3D Connexion's device manager allows bindings to be set for a device per application. When I updated to VW2023, some of my VW2022 bindings remained in place without my updating the bindings for VW2023 (I have the tape measure on button five, cursor on button 4, and a radial menu with four common tools), but my scroll wheel click won't take new bindings. I have set Fit View to Objects to Cmd+7, and in 3D Connexion for VW 2023 set the scroll wheel click to input Cmd+7, but for some reason instead it centers the view on the XY origin and changes to top perspective. Using Cmd+7 on the keyboard actually does Fit View to Objects. Any ideas?
  5. Is there any way to predict or control the location of a basic ctrl+C ctrl+V pasted object? I am aware of paste in place and Move and Duplicate. It seems like the paste location for a quick copy/paste is somewhat random.
  6. I frequently orbit from Top/Plan view into a 3D view while working, which switches the display to an orthographic 3D view. Is there a setting that would cause the Flyover Tool to default to Normal Perspective rather than Orthographic? thank you
  7. batch rename! should have known. Thank you. Select Similar is not quite what I'm looking for because it requires that you are currently looking at an object in that class. A problem I'm having is that I'll have just one class set to visible in the class list, and every layer (there are only two right now) set to Show/Snap/Modify, nothing locked, and no layers have any classes invisible, and nothing is visible or selectable on the screen (with cmd+A, zoom to fit objects). So if there's anything on that class, it should be visible. I right click on the class and delete it, and it asks what to do with items on that class, so something's hiding from me. Basically what I need is to force visibility and selection on a class.
  8. Is there a way to rename a class with multiple subclasses? For example I have just imported a civil engineer's CAD survey and it has hundreds of classes with subclasses, all using standard abbreviations. Unfortunately the file was a mess and most of the information will just be deleted. There are some classes I would like to keep and rename more legibly, but I'd rather not individually change the base class name ten times. In a related vein, some of the imported linework is at an accurate height, but a lot of it has seemingly random height values, like tree symbols, leader lines, and text notes sitting a quarter mile up above the topography. Is there a way to select all items on a class (other than just turning all other classes invisible, and selecting what's left). In Rhino if you do a Select All Objects On Layer (Rhino layer being comparable to VW class) command, it would warn you that some items of that description were not currently visible and prompt to turn on. That's the functionality I'm trying to recreate.
  9. My design layers are all at 1:1, and my sheets are all 11x17. Every time I switch from a design layer to a sheet, the first thing I have to do is resize the display to either zoom in to my tiny sheet or zoom out from one small corner of the design layer. I have bound Zoom To Fit Objects to my middle mouse, which is convenient enough, but it is pesky to have to do it every single time, potentially several times a minute. Is there a setting which will maintain a level of zoom (such as displaying all objects) or maintain the state of my display prior to switching from design layer to sheet?
  10. Two questions: Is there a way to change the default selection behavior of a simple click and drag rectangular marquee from selecting only fully encompassed objects to selecting any object crossed by the drag (the default Option+Click drag selection). Similar to the way in Rhino left to right drag is differentiated from a right to left drag. And when I use a tool - for example, Move by Points - that has several modes (move, move and duplicate, distribute, reference point), is there a way to cycle between those modes with a key press, or to bind a specific key to a specific mode? thank you
