  1. These are worksheets that have text in them only- they are not reporting any data in the file. I will give that a try though, but I do not see how that will make them normally quicker to edit.
  2. We have several worksheets that we use for code review, and our formatting is something that we have setup several years ago and we like. We are now experiencing real editing problems with these files (that have migrated from older versions of VW). For example, to delete a row we need to wait at least a minute before the function is complete (you can only watch the spinning beach ball so much). Inserting rows is quicker, but there is some hang time. Anyone have any advice here for reusing old worksheets? The ones we are using we copied and pasted into a new VW file, by the way.
  3. That is unfortunate as it defeats a major function of these things. Thanks for the explanation, though.
  4. Hi- I notice an oddity with some object that are classed and checked to have those class attributes. For example, I notice that toilet stalls will not take on the attributes of the class they are one. The doors will but not the stall walls. Any suggestions?
  5. I have seen schedules done like this before. Doors and windows would be organized by type. I do not know how hardware selection would work. In some ways we are exploring a similar approach by creating door symbols that would be types. But we always generate schedules and have elevations as an accessory to the schedule.
  6. Thanks for that resource. I hope this will kick start this section of the tech board. It seems that we are on the right track for multi-user files, its just a matter of fine tuning and user preferences.
  7. Bill- You should check out the matrix Mike posted here: http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=136025&gonew=1#UNREAD I would be wary of breaking up the master model, do to the complicated nature of the many WG refs you would need to create. But if it does work smoothly, then go for it.
  8. This alternative work flow diagram is quite nice, thanks! Did you create it? It is also similar to the one we have setup, so that reinforces the thought that we are going in the right direction, 3D work flow-wise. I would only add the existing conditions survey file information would be referenced into the master model file, at least that is how we use references for renovation/addition work. By the way, what is meant by 'resource import link' for schedules? Is that simply a reference of the plan for generating schedules? We find that we have to generate schedules in the master model file, and then reference those into a target sheet file...
  9. Bill- You question is a good one, and I foresee that you could setup a 'virtual' multi-user file structure with your workers. The trick, I think, is for you to maintain control over any master reference files, and allow them to work only in the target, sheet, files. The other issue is setting up the WG refs so that they are locked when the out of office workers draw, and unlocked, or refreshed, when you get them back and ready to print. I would not want them to have access to any master files, but have them see the reference files as red while they work.
  10. Hi- We are a small firm with 5 workstations. We are still using VW2009 and will upgrade to 2010 sometime this year. We are still trying to work out the kinks for multi-users on a single project, and are fishing for others experience here. This would be the ability for a team to work on the same project at the same time using workgroup references over a networked server. We break the files apart by our sheet organizations- plans, ceiling plans, elevations, sections, etc. But everyone can reference the same 'model' file, which is the master project file. Just curious about other multi-users file structures.
  11. I am referring to the window that opens when a door object is edited.
  12. Can anyone out there tell me if there is a trick to entering data in the data pain of a door object? The only way I seem to be able to do this is by highlighting each line with the cursor, and typing away. The tab key only hops between the other boxes, and the enter key ok's the whole window. Any tips...?
  13. Jeffrey- Thanks for the assistance. I say yes to any updates to allow user to access data in DLVP's. There is always the opportunity to use custom symbols (in my case) that will need to be 'found'. The light fixture objects seem to be lacking record formats and data, that we cannot access for schedules.
  14. I would like to but they are quite large, well over 20MB compressed, and you would need both files. This is a real problem for this and future projects. I am about to take all light symbols out of the ref. file and place tjem in the target file.
  15. Yes, the target file has a DLVP with the plan info. I then have a sheet layer that has this stuff on it, with the schedule. The selection criteria is quite open and indicates 0 items, even with the boxes checked or unchecked. Seems to defeat the purpose here...
  16. ...does not work. I have a target file for ceilings and light fixtures. The fixtures are symbols in the reference file and have data attached. In the target file I have a worksheet light schedule that is looking for all items with a record value equal to the CSI number on the symbols, but it is drawing a blank. Any tips?
  17. We have not noticed any issues with our four stations.
  18. No problems here- installed quickly for us. Try updating again straight from the VW program.
  19. Thanks, Chad, that did the trick.
  20. Hi, I have a problem with snapping (gotta like that word) in VW 2009 SP4. I cannot seem to snap one line to another that is not a midpoint, endpoint or align point. For example, if I want to move a line to another line, I can't get the snap to work to the target line unless it is one of the above noted points. I do have all the buttons on on the constraints palette except for snap to grid and snap to tangent. Is there a setting that I am missing?
  21. Hi, I have a puzzling mis-alignment occurring with viewports from a referenced file. The reference file has roofing on the Mod-Roof layer. On the Mod-Floor 2 layer I have a viewport with the mod-roof layer referenced and sent back under my walls/floors drawn in the mod-floor 2 layer (The 2nd floor is a dormer condition). In my target structural file, I am referencing only the mod-floor 2 layer- with the roof viewport- for my roof framing plan. In the target file, the single viewport is showing the roof plan and the floor plan not aligning. The 0,0 point is the same in both files, as is the layer scale. Anyone have any tips? I am in VW 2009 SP3.
  22. Thanks Ion. The folders in question are 'Libraries'; 'Plug-ins'; 'Settings'; 'VW Help'; and 'Workspaces'. The locations are both the VW folder in Applications, and the 2009 folder in user/Library/Application Support/vectorworks. It is puzzling to us this duplicity. For example, I see that VW looks into the user folder for the active workspace, not the applications folder. It seems confusing and I know we should ignore it, but it clouds our understanding of the user and workgroup folder concept.
  23. We have updated to 2009 and are sorting through our user and workgroup folder structures and have a curiousity question for all. Why are there several duplicate folders/files for VW in the Vectorworks application folder and the user/application support/Vectorworks folder? We just cannot figure this redundency out. Thanks
  24. One of the things we are still trying to figure out is how to have multiple users use a single model file. We have had trouble in the past with broken up multi story building models. Anyone have any other suggestions regarding this aspect? If anyone is planning to be at the AIA convention, I would be glad to chat about this.
  25. Hi, I have notices this occuring with several files. I will set up a hardware set as I modify door objects during DD phase. Creating the schedule is stright from that Tools menu, and it sets up fine. After I create several sets, and go back to add more or edit the ones I made, I notice there are many blank lines under the Browse tabe in the particular door. At the very bottom I will see some, but not all the sets I have created and that are reporting to the schedule. The quick fix is to edit through the schedule, or kill the database header and make it a dumb schedule, but I don't like to do that. Any suggestions?
