  1. Just running with vw and it went again while draging a wall - so the problem must be with vw - any suggestions appreciated.
  2. My pc has completely crashed twice in the last 7 days. Perhaps a programme will cease or crash but not the whole pc. The screen comes up 'power save mode' and the screen goes black. The pc is till running but there is no control and the only way to start up again is to press the power, switch off and on. Whats happening? Just happened again in the space of 15 mins! Not sure where to start? Had 2 or 3 programmes open at the time - vectorworks, outlook and messenger - now is the problem with the pc or one of the programmes? Most likely to be vw as I was working in it at the time doing a drag and drop. How do you know if vw is causing the problem? And if so how do you fix it?
  3. Genie Thanks for your help. I have no problem with associated dimensions but we can't spend all day deleting walls and starting again everytime this happens, especially as it is happening on more than one pc and other files - but perhaps I will it it a go in one file and see what happens.
  4. Attached is a plan which shows how other walls move and dims change when moving a wall.
  5. Well its happening on two of our pcs with two operators and so I think it is unlikely to be operator error. When it happens again I will send attachments.
  6. Turning VW on and off sorted the problem! Pretty basic but I can't keep doing that all day! By the way our problem was / is with 2010 and a new file and so it should not be any inherted bugs and or 2009 bugs. When it comes again we will submit a bug report to NNA but they send it back saying it has to be resolved locally and be sent to CU in the UK who then say they can not fix it and they have to submit it to NNA in the US who then report back to CU and who then report back to us. Such a long sentance but it is such a long proceedure which is time consuming and usually eaves bugs / items unresolved.
  7. Don't worry help will be at hand and NNA will resolve in 2011 and it will only cost another ?1,000!
  8. Got the same prob here. Click on end of wall to drag away from joined wall and all other walls move with it. Use wall join tool and other walls move. Use ctrl join and other walls move. Tried changing various settings but to no effect. Got to the point were I can't draw with vw.
  9. 'Help not responding' - as useless as it can get!
  10. I tried to turn this positive by setting up what are 'the best things about 2010' - perhaps it is telling that little have responded! Worse things: I spent too much money for upgrades and see no significant improvements. They left out the dongle free facility they promised. The sound on the help discs is not audiable.
  11. Logitech do the best mouses or is it mice!? Anyway used a wire less one for years. Must admit I don't use the wheel much for VW.
  12. Thanks Jonathan- the videos are really good and i can hear you unlike the NNA videos shipped with the discs. However, suprised that noone else has found any best things about 2010.
  13. I thought I had posted this topic before but it seems to have disappeared! As we are justing getting into 2010 Architect from version 2008, and do not want to miss out on the improvements, amd so I thought I would post this question to send us in the right direction. What have you found to be the best improvements in 2010?
  14. It is the dvd that was supplied with the booklet and VW2010 - getting started guide. I always find the videos very useful but the recent ones online have been very poor in terms of sound and download. Thus I was hoping the dvd would have it - but it has not - a real disappointment! I use Windows Media Player and QT but mainly WMP for videos and music and have no problems with videos on You Tube, after all VW is suppose to be Mac and Win use.
  15. The sound on the videos is so poor you can not hear the person speak! Tried it on another pc and its the same. Have I got a dud dvd? Or is everyone else not hearing?
  16. 'One or more reference files are not in the format used by the application version you are running, so they can not be updated. Use the Open Command in the File menu to open and then resave files' This message appears when opening 2008 and / or 2009 files with 2010. Now I am opeing the files whilst in vw2010 but the message comes up before I can resave. So I am doing what the message says and it still does not go away, its not working and the message keeps coming up when opening files resaved in 2010. Why is what I am doing not working, especially as its what the message says I should do? How can you identify which ref files are not in the format to give me the opportunity of updating that file or replacing it or deleting it? How do you stop the message?
  17. Opening and receiving 2009 files into 2010. Files where original created in 2008. We work on the drawings and then notice that some of the doors and windows keep moving to the end of walls. Why is this? Is this a bug in 2010?
  18. Thanks for the removal and responding. Disappointed that we have had no local support / response to our problem emailed to them some 5 days ago. As we now have to do local with our technical queries rather than go to NNA direct we see this as a bit of a failing. We have tried running it again. We tried from the SP1 file downloaded onto the first pc and that worked on the first pc and that did not work on the second pc. We tried downloading direct from the web onto the second pc and that did not work. How should we proceed. Remove SP1 and download again? Remove 2010 and SP1 and install / download again?
  19. We do a back up. Save every 15 mins, overwriting original file and saving each revision as a seperate file. All files / date on host pc which gets back up daily with Outback onto a remote hard drive, which I take everywhere I go - even on holiday with me! Always have 2 copies of complete back up. Decided to set up new 2010 file as the new master file and import classes, layers and resources from old master file. Never done a complete batch convert as previous advice on here suggested a file by file basis which is what we have stuck with. Also 2010 will open all old versions so we have access to old files if and when needed.
  20. I am trying to install VW 2010 on my second pc. The first installation on our first pc went fine and the SP1 updated AND installed ok. The installation of VW2010 on the second pc went ok but the SP1 updater refuses to install. We have tried several times. Removed and reinstalled 2010 but it still has not worked. I attach the updater log and request any assistance ASAP.

  22. A month back upgraded from 2008 to 2009 and now 2010. What is the best way to upgrade? We have a master project file [not set up as a template] but a file we start all our projects from and do as a save as for the new project. This was set up in 2008 with all our classes, layers, titleblock, preferences, etc. Now in terms of VW upgrade management should one start again with a fresh new file or should one convert the older file and do a save as or should one import the classes and layers and resoures from a converted file into a new 2010 file? Not found any guidance on this and we all must upgrade at some time. What do you do?
  23. I thought 2010 was dongle free - just installed it and still have to use a dongle - am I missing something?
  24. I think I am getting to the bottom of this. And your advice has been very helpful. The problem is you have to start again with a new document to set up all your doors and windows. It is hard or impossible to get the glass rendering on already created windows to work. Also the problem is you can not set up classes first such as 'door' and or 'window' before you insert your windows and doors - simply the drag and drop from the tool set does not work. Now I do not know if this is a problem with 2009 and if so I hope 2010 has sorted it out. One, because we have a lot of projects we are working on that are being converted from 2008 to 2009 and will then be converted to 2010 [when NNA issue it] and we will have lost the window / door / glass change facility. Two we have a master document / file that has all our classes on and it seems that either we will have to set this up again and / or only bring in 'door' and 'window' classes after insertion of the first one.
