  1. I have vw architect architect with rw 2010 and I am trying out 2014 to see whether to upgrade. Quite a few changes and improvements. Stuck already. set up a simple cube in a design layer and in the viewport it is all solid orange when I click on it. How do I get out of hat?
  2. Dieter Thank you for your help. Should I post the file here? Or do you mean email it to you?
  3. For a simple 2 storey house under organization design layer levels I set up: ground floor at z 0 and +-z at 2600mm first floor at z 2600mm and +- at 2400mm roof at z 5000mm and +- at 0 Then I create a pitched roof in AEC on the roof layer. Then I set up the elevations in a viewport and all three layers nicely line through above each other. This is how I have done for years. But recently the roof layer is not at the correct 5000mm level and is at the same level as the ground floor. I know can tweek the design layer levels or move the roof up in the roof layer but this then messes up all my design levels for later revisions, etc. What have I done? What do I do to correct this?
  4. i just realised what i did. I changed from architect to fundamentals so i have changed back and everything appears!
  5. under file my export and print options have just reduced! I have lost batch print, export pdf, export pdf batch, etc. Whats happened?
  6. I have just purchased a new pc and I was looking forward to faster updates on view ports. But it has got worse! Not responding appears on the top tab and in task manager. The vp eventually updates and not responding goes. VW does not crash. I am only doing one vp at a time. There are 2 or 3 3D Entourage tree and people graphics. The windows 7 pc is a Dell Precision T5610 with an Intel xeon processor [6 core, 2.1 Ghz Turbo, 15 MB]. The graphics is a 3 GB NVDIA Quadro K4000. Vectorworks Architect with renderworks is v 2010 with the latest updates. Quicktime is 7.6.2 [wrong version?] Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  7. Jim Thank you for your help. I have found this useful link: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/1163/Vectorworks+Operating+System+Compatibility+List+2013-10-22
  8. Currently we are using Windows XP but we need to upgrade to either Windows 7 or 8 and MS Office 2013. I have completed a search and found some info but I really would appreciate an update on windows 7 and 8 compatibility with Vectorworks 2010 Architect with Render Works. I appreciate that at some point we will need to up date vw but unfortunately that will have to wait a while until work picks up. Thank you for your help.
  9. It seemed to happen when I used the shortcut ctrl j to join 2 walls. Possibly the auto save came on at about the same time. Thankfully it seems to have sorted itself out when reopening today and luckily I have not lost a file. Thank you all for your help.
  10. I have 2 screens running off 1 pc. Coming to the end of the day now so i am going to switch off and hope everything is all right in the morning!
  11. I have vw 2010. Suddenly I have loss all of my controls! All of the drop down controls have gone grey and do not work. I have tried everything. None of the short cuts are working. I can't open another file. And worse of all I can not close or save or save as. What can I do? I have not tried shutting down vw as i don't want to lose the file. Besides it may not shut down. Any help appreciated.
  12. I have done a search and I can not find the answer so please forgive me if this has been asked before. I am thinking of upgrading from windows xp to windows 7 - is vectorkworks architect 2010 compatible with win 7? Do all the functions work?
  13. Hi, not been around a while. Did a search but could not find a thread on this. Is Vectorworks Architect 2010 fully compatable with Windows 7?
  14. Ian, thanks for that - in the end it was as you say simply just doing a windows update!
  15. I have now found the link from vw knowledgebase but I must I admit it is not very clear. I presum I just download the HASP but it is not clear which one. Also once I have downloaded does it commit the dongle to that driver? My plan is to have vw on both my xp pc and win 7 laptop, but is that possible?
  16. I have just tried installing my vw on my laptop and it is asking for up to date dongle drivers. Where do I go?
  17. VW needs to get in on the band wagon in the UK otherwise they will lose out to Autodesk.
  18. Some doors / windows I can not move or drag or drop without the dims and walls going all over the place and the following message comes up: 'this editing operation cannot be performed because of constraints on one or more objects involved.' This is driving me nuts!
  19. Well its happening again! And its not that vw stopped doing, its just that I have not been using vw for a long time as I can't trust it..and the problem is geeting worse move a door / drag it and akll the walls go all over the place. See before and after shots:
  20. I like to get a great debate going! Interesting thread and NNA needs to read it and take note if it wants to get ahead of the game and survive.
  21. Trying to adjust a drawing and pulling a few dimensions out here and there to make the final construction drawing more readable, finished and then I notice that moving the dimensions has moved the walls - the dimensions are tied to the walls. I had to redraw and set out the walls and dims all over again - lost out on a days work! Got worried, could not sleep and next day looked at my other drawings and projects and noticed that the same thing had happenend therebut I had not seen it. In fact, a couple of projects are on site, and on one project I had a recent arguement with the builder who had built windows out of line with the windows below - actually I now realise he had built it correctly to the drawing and the drawing is wrong! Vectorworks has become risky.
  22. As said in another thread, I believe that Revit are taking over as the preferred CAD package for architects.
  23. I have been fighting the cause for Vectorworks over Revit for a long time but feel that VW is losing. For example, Revit are coming out with some great 3D windows, with plenty of detail, parametric sash windows that incluses tapered reveals, window seats, etc: http://www.revit-content.com/content/sash-window/index.htm It includes an adjustable tapered soffit and reveals. The kitchens are pretty good too: http://www.revit-content.com/content/kitchen/index.htm The render button is very impressive with great detail and shadows, as attached [hopefully]. So more and more architects in the UK are moving to Revit. I feel VW is slowly becoming less and less attractive with hardly any back up here in the UK.
  24. Before I up date - is there any problems with SP2?
