The online help and manuel is pretty poor at explaining things!
I have created the window first as a symbol. However, when it is viewed in elevation it is the wrong oritation and seen set perpendicular to the dormer, whereas in the symbol edit it is shown in the correct oritation!

I wish you could edit the window in the dormer.
I wish the dormer did not get embedded into the roof on insertion and not allow you to edit it.

Well I may as well reply to myself as no one else is!
Even the technical support are quiet on this one!
So I have made the doemer window a symbol and brought it in to former a dormer. You have to offset the dormer by at least 50mm or else it gets embedded in the roof and you can not edit the dormer. The trouble is that the windows are the wrong way round and there is no facility to edit them.
What a load of complicated ?$*&^%
There must be a simpler way - perhaps it is with AutoCAD?

Please can you explain how I can edit the size of a window in a dormer.
The edit roof element command does not seem to allow this.
Also when the dormer becomes part of the roof there is no way to edit the dormers properties.

I ahve been trying that and, besides it being time consuming learning the process,there a few problems:
1. Fenestraion pattern disappears.
2. Shade appears on the elevation.

I am trying to 'properly' set up my plans, elevations and perspectives in Vectorworks 11 with sheet layers and viewports from the plans.
It is not as simple as I thought because it is taking a long time and still the elevations are not very good. I try using the rendering commands and fenestration patterns disappear or all the walls are seen or shadow appears. Should the walls be on layer which is blocked? Do I have to fiddle with the light commands? Which rendering command is best to use?
Or is VW 11 not really very good at this and I should stick to drawing the elevations seperatly or spend more money and upgrade to VW Architect and Render Works?

Changed the title block into a symbol but it did not work!
You have to put the symbol on a layer and it disappears in front view.
Is this because the symbol is on a different layer? Or because it is at a different scale to the front view? Or because it is changing everything to front view, including the title block which can only been seen in plan? Perhaps yu can not add title blocks to any view unless it is in plan!

I am having problems using viewports and views and would appreciate some help.
I have set up views and viewports of a house in ground floor plan and first floor plan and roof plan and then started setting up different views of the plan ie front [elevation], rear and sides, etc and the titleblock [on a design layer]has disappeared in the front view but is visible in the plan views.
The titleblock is set up as a layer and this layer is used as an A3 template for drawings.
How can I have the titleblock visible in all viewports and views irrelevant of the type of view?

In fact it is worse in other views - you can not get hold of the dormer at all, even if it is offset from the roof by 50mm. You can only get handles for the roof.
