Is it possilbe to put a viewport to multiple sheet layers, or reuse the same viewport object? When copying the viewport from one sheet to another this makes also a copy of the viewport. So now i have two identical viewports in the list. If i now want to change them i have to do it manually or by copying and pasting. This is not so much work if the viewport is without annotations, but if it contains annotations and i want to change the crop, this becomes very time consuming. Example when making sheet layers, i want to have an viewport with an "Overview/Map" at all pages, and use annotations to highlight the area of this actual sheet layer. Is there a better way of doing this, or can i add this as an future request? Example here of what the map could look like. This will typically be small into one corner of the sheet layer.

Referenced Viewport -> Locked + Visibility Tool
jgulbrandsen replied to jgulbrandsen's question in Troubleshooting
@Bruce Ferguson Thanks for reply. I agree that an viewport should be treated as one single object. If you click it with visibility tool, it should hide the whole viewport item, or the class for the viewport object - not classes inside the viewport. Hope this can be investigated and or solved in the future! -
Lighting fixtures transparent until moved
jgulbrandsen replied to Bill_Rios's question in Troubleshooting
@Scott C. Parker Hey, So i attached a file here. Default (not clikced any objects) attribute Fill=Solid=40%. When opening the file the lighting devices is same 40% transparent, truss is not 40% this is 100% When moving one of them, this item becomes 100%. The others stays 40% - but the interresting thing now is that the default attribute fill also is reset back to 100%. If one is moved, and then saving the file. Close and reopen. Now the default fill is 100%, and all of them is full solid filled as expected. This was discovered in an project file, where the default attributes (and other document settings) is not committed when saving, other than if you manually enable thiswhen comitting. Plese give feedback if this is normal. Lighting fixtures transparent until moved.vwx -
So if i have an referenced viewport, reference from another file into an design layer. Set this up with visibilities with classes and layers as wanted. Now in the shared project file / file, i want to lock the referenced viewport object item. So its not so easy for everyone to make unwanted changes or edit visibility. If i now want to change classes or layers visibility from the OIP i need to unlock the object, and this is as expected. I grab the visibility tool "Classes (or layers) mode" + "Invisible mode". Now i can click at objects inside the "Locked" referenced viewport and it will hide this classes/layers. It does not make sense for me that the visibility tool can make changes to an locked item, while the buttons does not. It would be great if an locked object cannot be changed with tools.

Lighting fixtures transparent until moved

Hello, Using Vectorworks 2025 Update 6 now, and discovered the same issue. Is this excpeted behaviour or is a bug? This is a bit strange since it only affects Lighting Devices and not other object types? -

User Folder AND/OR Resource Manager for GDTF Fixtures
jgulbrandsen replied to ALHP's question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
@klinzey I cannot get this to work with Workgroup or User folder. I have placed .gdtf files inside these folders that are autogenerated when creating an workgroup folder or in the user folder location. If i place the file in the workgroup path, it will also not show up. If i place the file in the user folder-path, it will also not show up. If i place the files in the application-path folder they show up immediately. Am i doing something wrong, or is this not a possible way of doing it? (Mac VW 2025 Update 5)- 5 replies

Spotlight - DMX Patch in Project File
jgulbrandsen replied to jgulbrandsen's question in Troubleshooting
Thanks for quick reply @jcogdell If i also in the same loop can add a request for improvement of the DMX Patch. t would be very nice if this window can be "floating" like an worksheet. So that i can work inside DMX Patch, and at the same time move/zoom and look around in the drawing. As it is now, DMX patch is an locked popup, so i cannot do other stuff at the same time. -
Hello, Question when working in a project file and using DMX Patch window. There is no "warning" when opening DMX Patch window, if some of the lighting devices are checked out to other users, or no question to check out lighting devices when opening this window. This means if i make a lot of changes, and when finished and clicking OK, first now will vectorworks check if these Lighting Devices is available to check out for me and make changes to. There is also another weakness here, it will always check out ALL lighting devices in the drawing, no matter if you just made changes to one lighting device. This can result in that i cannot make changes to available/non checked out lamps by other users, because if not all lighting devices is available, it is not possible to confirm the check out popup that appears when finished. Another bug i guess? If a lighting devices is locked, it is still possible to change the information inside the DMX Patch window.

Hello! Will there be a way to assign a (custom, not online) GDTF file to my SYMBOLS, not actual Lighting Devices in the drawing? I understand i can input the "GDTF ID" into the symbol, and it will download from website. But if i have custom GDTF Files that is not in the GDTF-Share website? Now we have a Resource-Folder with all GDTF files, and need to map these to the Lighting Devices after they are inserted to the drawing. The preferred workflow will be to draw the lighting device from the symbol and GDTF linked already. I also found a post on this from earlier:

Hanging Position, Snapping Bug? 2024 + 2025
jgulbrandsen replied to jgulbrandsen's question in Troubleshooting
Thanks @jcogdell This has been happening since as long as i can remember for 2024, and also 2025. Windows and Mac. For all users in our workgroup. 2024 Update 6 Build 765860 2025 Update 0 Build 775667 I think i also have submitted a bug report a while ago, but unfortunately i never got any response. -
Hanging Position, Snapping Bug? 2024 + 2025
jgulbrandsen replied to jgulbrandsen's question in Troubleshooting
@jcogdell Same with truss tool, and CTRL/ALT dragging with mouse. All scenarios where the snap is "activated". If i just use duplicate array it will work, but this is not always the best solution.
