  1. bob, it's the "bubble" that's not visible as the object shows up on the window schedule. I've checked my classes, and they are all turned on.... Also, I've checked my "bubble" size in the preference settings....nothing seems to work to make my "bubble" appear. Should I delete all the windows and start over?
  2. Thanks, but that's not it...all window classes are turned on. I am using VW12.01
  3. Having trounle with the window ID symbol...it doesn't show up on the drawing! However, the referenced window shows up on the window schedule. What is causing the symbol to not be placed in the drawing? Could it have disappeared under another object? No..Is my text class on?...yes. Can't figure it out...please help, thanks
  4. SIRS; ACCIDENTALLY I LOCKED 2 LAYERS WITHOUT CREATING A NEW DESIGN LAYER TO PLACE THE LINK ON. HOW DO I GET THE OBJECTS BACK TO THEIR RESPECTIVESOURCE LAYER? i'M HOPING THERE IS A SHORTER WAY THAN "EDIT>UNDO" COMMAND. bY THE WAY, I'VE RUN OUT OF "UNDO (CTRL Z)" STEPS. IS THERE AN EASY WAY TO DO THIS? THANK YOU
  5. Oh, wait a minute, I see if I UNGROUP the drawing, I can go back in through the text menu and manually set the size...right?
  6. OK, so if the property were drawn on a layer at 1"=50' scale, then the text will be microscopic? How do you set up the property line tool with a simple dialogue to create readable bearings and distances? I want to end up with a 12 pt. text size on the finished sheet.
  7. Sirs: After drawing property lines, I've zoomed in to double check my bearings and lengths. However, when I zoom in, I don't see numbers, but only dots where the numbers should be... Also, At the center of the drawing, where I would expect to see area totals, I get "astrological signs" 'pears to be. The drawing looks correct, but where do I find legible lengths, bearings, and areas? Thank you
  8. Jim: I hav a .dwg file on cd that is a finished architectural drawing. I have floorplan and elevations in this file. I am running ver. 11 VW. Now, I want to start up a drawing in VW using these imported drawings as a basis. Do I import the files as an image, symbol, or what? I want to be able to edit these imported files, so do I create a blank layer, document or what ? I can't really tell from the manual...perhaps you could refer me to where I could read-up on the subject. Thanks...btw, I am just learning to use this program, any tips will be helpful
  9. Sirs: I have an elevation drawing and a floorplan drawing which I want to import into my project. Can you tell me, is this as simple to do as creating a symbol, then ungrouping the symbol (in order to edit), and so forth? Will you give me a quick 1,2,3 on how to achieve this? Thank you. PS. Ideally, I'd like to know if it is possible to take this floorplan and elevation and create a 3D object....
  10. sirs: i need to place a rectangle within another rectangle. The inner rectangle is to be offset 1' from the outer rectangle on all sides. I'm having no luck executing this with the offset tool. With either the offset by distance, or the offset by point isn't working for me. I keep getting a message that claims "not all objects can be offset" what's the matter? Isn't this supposed to be a simple task...or am I just simple?
  11. Sirs: can you give a rookie a tip? I wish to set up a project for a remodeling job, and to get the project started I will be importing a plan drawing and two elevation drawings. My question: what's the best way to set this up? Should I import these drawings to seperate design layers, or to seperate classes? What's the tried and true strategy for getting underway with this kind of data? I do not wish to redraw, or trace these drawings, rather I would prefer that I can incorporate them into the actual design. Can you refer me to somewhere this is discussed in detail? Thank you, Tony
  12. Why? I'm just catching on to a few features, but it seems to me that model setup, although nice, makes for "extra work." i.e., why go through mod setup when it seems I can create layers directly, and put objects like chimneys, or multi-storey hieght walls directly on a single layer. Also, I get confused with, believe it or not, the task manager. Layer and class visibility seem hard to manage...believe me this is not a criticism, I am just too inexperienced with the software. I look forward to the classes in NYC next week. I am bringing along many questions...thanks for responding
  13. Sirs: I will be attending your training week in NYC, Oct. 18-21. In the meantime, I'm trying to become as familiar with this program as I can. Question: If I choose not to use the "model setup" routine, and instead just create layers as I need them, how can I create viewports? or Standard viewports? Is it posssible to create viewports without using mod set-up?
  14. sirs: as a new user, i'm stuck on something very basic. what am i doing wrong? i am tring to get my walls set at the proper depth. for example, on my foundation layer, my depth is -minus 9'4", and i want the wall to be only 6" high (these are footings.) i've set my layer at the proper z value -9'4" (I think), then i draw the walls. once finished drawing the walls, i select the flyover tool just to see if they have been set correctly. unfortunately for me i have not yet been able to place the walls the proper depth. each time i use the flyover tool, the walls appear to be on the ground plane, not below, where they belong. what am i missing?
  15. Peter, Thanks for your reply. I see, use the dialogue box in layer setup, huh? That's nifty. Thanks for the clue.
