  1. I would agree with that assessment?an improved performance with SP3 has been my experience.
  2. Thanks for the link Christiaan. I'm going to try it out. I think that it will be quite useful...
  3. I have found that when I want to change a large number of various items from screen to layer, or vice versa, it is easiest to make a simple VectorScript with the Custom Selection submenu command. (via the Tools menu). When setting up the criteria for your script, choose "Plane" is "Layer Plane" for one script and "Plane" is "Screen Plane" for another script. Double clicking the ScreenPlane script command will select all of the items that are in the Screen Plane amongst the various objects currently visible. Once they are selected, even though they might be lines, circles, squares, text, etc? the Object Info Palette will allow you to change their plane orientation from Screen to Layer via a drop down menu "Plane" in the palette. Since they all share this attribute and you custom selected by layer, the Object Info Palette shows a Plane menu item that can toggle from Layer to Screen. So if you have grouped objects that might contain Screen Plane objects you can either show all classes, explode your groups and change all of the Screen Plane objects to Layer Plane all at once? or, if it's not desirable to ungroup certain groups, you will have to enter each group and execute the script command to select the Screen Plane objects then change them to Layer Plane via the Object Info Palette. This works for me. Hope that helps. I don't think you can directly change groups from screen plane to layer plane. That would be a cool wish list item though...
  4. Well, I have been working with the latest build (SP3) for Designer 2014 since shortly after it was released and I have noticed a significant improvement in stability. I'm working with some large custom home model files (150 to 200 MB), Autosave set to 150 Operations and Maximum Undos set to 10? There are still crashes as it saves on occasion, about once ever 2 or 3 days, and I do get the out of memory dialog that won't let me overwrite the existing file when I am rendering files and have rendered a few large jpeg perspectives? have to "save as" another file, restart VW and then all goes well for several more renderings. Thanks again for the info and ideas to help stability.
  5. Mike, thanks for the tips. I already made the transition back to 2014 Release, it's not that difficult? I always hang on to the DMG files. The stability is immediately noticeable and I haven't had a crash since the re-install. I think that I will also try out your tips as double insurance, ( I hate to lose work). I do remember earlier versions of Vectorworks where high undo numbers resulted in more crashes. In fact, I vaguely remember a time when I chose no undo's rather than continue with multiple crashes per work session. Thanks- Christopher
  6. I have been having more crashes then normal as I work with Vectorworks 2014 SP2. Most of the Crashes seem to happen during the Auto-Save when I'm in a group or viewport? I have also had crashes occur when I am zooming in or out rapidly, especially if an auto save is occurring. As Christiaan noted --- Often it's related to switching layers, panning, zooming, copy pasting, just finishing a save or something like that.--- This can really add up in loss of hours recreating work already done. Easy to miss items the 2nd time around too. I'm going to try Christiaan's suggestion and reinstall the original version of Vectorworks 2014 to see if I notice a stability increase. I sure hope so. Hey, thanks for all of the info posted here...
  7. PeterT, I have had the same problems with Safari and the Help System. I solved them by reloading the application software starting with Vectorworks 11.0 and then installing the upgrade to 11.5. Finally, the help system is working as well as others have described in this thread... Hope this works for you. Christopher Alexander Alexander Studio Safari 2, Tiger 10.4.2, Powermac G4 Dual 800

  9. I am currently looking to purchase a wide format plotter that will provide both high quality prints for Architectural Renders, color prints for Client review and standard Cad Plotting for blueprints. Currently investigating the Canon imageProGraf W7200 and the Epson 9600... I have had good luck with Epson, currently use (2) Epson 3000's and an Epson Photo 2200. The output of these is great but I need also need large format with a minimum of 30" x 42" output size. I am interested in the Canon W7200 because of the 36" width, high capacity 330 ml ink tanks with lower ink costs, and apparent high print speed. Is anyone here using the Canon? Does anyone print on vellum with the 9600? If I get the Epson, I would probably get the photographic dye ink model to conserve cost of consumables. If anyone is using the Canon, are you using Rip Software with it? I have heard that PoserJet is a good RIP software. Is it needed with the Canon? Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. Christopher Alexander Alexander Studio 10/15/04
