Hi [Name],
I was wondering if it is possible to retrieve the height of a Space into a worksheet and then, if needed, adjust the heights of the Spaces directly from the worksheet.
Specifically:
I pull the height value into the worksheet via a formula =VALUE('Space'.'11_Gross Height').
I then modify this value in the worksheet.
The new value would be pushed back to the Space’s Info Palette, and the Space in the drawing would automatically update to match the new height from the Info Palette.
Is this kind of bidirectional control between a worksheet and the actual Space geometry possible in Vectorworks?
Thank you for your insights.

problem solved. There was something wrong with the slab.

In the first image, you can see the house displayed using a normal projection with the two-point perspective setting enabled. However, when I export this view from my Sheet Layer to PDF, the result is what you see in the second image. The export is a blanc document and as you see in the image a strange view in Vectorworks.
Does anyone know what could be causing this issue and how it can be resolved?

None of the options work consistently; sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t, which clearly cannot be the intention. In my opinion, it should function the same way as in the 2024 version, because in its current state it provides no added value. I believe I already reported this in 2025 and had hoped it would be resolved in the 2026 release, but apparently this has not happened. It’s strange that I seem to be the only one encountering this issue.

When I draw a volume in version 2024 and I want to draw a new rectangle from one of the corner points in order to subtract it from the existing volume, I can place myself on a corner point of the volume and press the G-key to set the coordinates to zero. Then I can enter a distance relative to this original corner point to define where my second rectangle should start. The cursor then jumps to this point, and after that I can enter the correct dimensions of my rectangle, which I then extrude to subtract from the first volume.
If I do the same thing in version 2025 or 2026, it no longer works. After pressing the G-key and entering the offset distance where I want the new rectangle to start, I can see the cursor jump to that point, but as soon as I enter the dimensions of the second rectangle, they are calculated from the corner point of the first volume and not from the offset point that I entered.

Hello Tom
In this file, there are two spaces on Design Layer 1. (ontwerplaag 1)
The goal is to move the space with the label value Basement (kelder) together with its label to the layer Basement,( KELDER)
and the space with the field value Ground Floor (gelijkvloers) in the label together with its label to the layer Ground Floor. (gelijkvloers)
However, this doesn’t work for me.Ruimtes.vwx

That doesn’t work, because in Vectorworks you can’t select both a space and a data tag at the same time based on a field value, for example Ground Floor.
A space and a data tag are two separate object types, and the “Custom Selection” or “Select Similar” commands can only target one object type at a time.
-
I have more than 100 spaces with their labels placed on one layer in my drawing. Some of these labels have a field value for Level, for example Ground Floor.
I’d like to select all spaces that have the field value Ground Floor in their label and move them together — meaning both the space and its corresponding label — to another layer.
Right now, when I do this, only the space is moved, while the label stays on the original layer. How can I move both at the same time?

Thank you very much, this is a great help for us.

“That’s exactly what I needed. It’s common to have a straight section, then a curved section, and then another straight section, especially at building corners.”
-
Yes please, that would be a great help

I’m certainly not saying this is expensive; if it were for myself, I would purchase it immediately. But you understand that when clients have just bought Vectorworks and come for a training asking how to draw these curtains, it’s not ideal from a Vectorworks perspective to immediately tell them they would also need to purchase this. On one hand, there are quite a few plugins included in the Architect version that they never use, and unfortunately, the one that is highly requested isn’t included.

Hello Pat
“Thanks for the tip, but as a Vectorworks distributor, we can’t really ask every user to purchase this. I believe the best solution would be to make SoftGoods available by default within the Architecture module. I honestly don’t understand why something so essential isn’t included as standard. This would make a lot of interior architects very happy.”

Hello
The main reason I’m asking is that we often receive requests from interior designers who want to model curtains that follow a curved path, sometimes with the option to open or close them.
As I mentioned, the SoftGoods tool is usually ideal for this audience, since their needs are quite simple — they mainly want to create a curtain that follows a curved track with realistic folds. Unfortunately, this plugin is only available in the Spotlight and Design Suite modules.
Upgrading solely to access the SoftGoods tool is far too expensive for this target group, and as long as Inc doesn’t include it in the Architecture module, we need to find another solution.
Ideally, we’d have a tutorial showing how to create the curtain (like the one in the image) along a curved path, complete with proper pleats. If you could demonstrate that process, it would already be a great added value for these users.
Very thanks in advance.

You’re absolutely right about that, but do you happen to have any tutorials on how to create these curtains as well?
-
Thank you very much. It’s a pity that you can draw curved curtains with the Soft Goods tool, but this plug-in isn’t available for interior architects who only have the Architecture version. You need the Design Suite or Spotlight for that, which is quite an expensive upgrade just to be able to draw curtains.

hello can you give me these please?

Oh, I think everyone has the best intentions when providing answers to this question/request. I will make sure in the future to document it, if necessary, with some additional video material.

I think we are now deviating quite far from my initial question. All I am asking is to take the already available tools, review them, and see if we can make them more efficient (double-click with push/pull and textures above and below a line on a volume) and add functions.

Yes, I understand that you can do this with previously drawn rectangles using the Sub-Face Mode tool. The workflow is: select the rectangle, select the volume, select the rectangle again, and then push the rectangle into the volume. Quite complex, don’t you think?
In SketchUp, I simply draw four rectangles, and with just one tool – the Push/Pull – I can push the first rectangle, for example, 10 cm inward, and then by just double-clicking the remaining rectangles with the same tool, they all follow with the same distance into the model. That seems much faster and more efficient.
I am a convinced Vectorworks user, but I notice that when you explain the Vectorworks method to an experienced SketchUp user, they quickly lose interest because of the complexity to achieve the same effect. I agree that SketchUp has no modeling history, but for them, that argument alone is not convincing enough when they see that some tasks in Vectorworks require such a roundabout workflow. I know that Vectorworks offers many powerful tools, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to simplify or improve certain workflows that could be made easier or more efficient.
In the video, you can see that the first time I use the Push/Pull tool, I push the rectangle 10 cm inward. After that, whenever I hover over another rectangle and simply double-click, it is automatically pushed inward by the same distance as before. The same workflow applies to lines.
In Vectorworks, we can indeed split a volume into two parts using a line. However, if I want to apply a different texture to the top and bottom separately, I first need to extrude the lower part slightly forward, apply the texture, and then push it back into place so that it sits in the same plane. This feels unnecessarily complex for a simple task.
If improvements like these were implemented in future versions of Vectorworks, it would significantly streamline the workflow and help us take major steps forward in efficiency.

I’m open to your suggestions if there’s a better and faster way than what Vectorworks currently offers. So if you have tips, they’re always welcome. I do think that what can be done in one click shouldn’t take two—speed is what matters to me.

From SketchUp to Vectorworks
Many users still create their 3D model in SketchUp and then switch to Vectorworks to further develop the drawings. Meanwhile, Vectorworks already includes a lot of features that can gradually convince users to do everything directly within Vectorworks and leave SketchUp behind.
However, there are still a few functionalities that should also be possible in Vectorworks to be even more convincing that it can be done just as quickly within one package — namely Vectorworks.
Push/Pull subtraction with multiple shapes
When I draw a volume and then draw a rectangle on one of its faces, I can push this rectangle into the volume and, by holding the Option key, subtract this shape from the volume.
However, when I draw multiple rectangles on the same face, the Option key no longer works for those earlier rectangles, and I must use the “Subtract Solids” command each time.
In SketchUp, this does work directly, which makes the workflow much faster.
Push/Pull memory
In SketchUp, when you push/pull a rectangle into a volume (e.g. 10 cm), you can then simply double-click on other rectangles, and they will automatically be pushed/pulled with the same depth.
In Vectorworks, you currently need to re-enter the value each time.
Having the push/pull tool remember the last used value and apply it directly with a double-click would significantly increase modeling speed.
Splitting volumes with a line (face separation for textures)
In Vectorworks, you can split a face with a line, but it is still considered one single face.
This means I cannot apply, for example, a brick texture below the line and a wood texture above the line.
To achieve this, I now need to extrude the lower part, apply the textures separately, and then push/pull it back to match the face above.
In SketchUp, the split directly creates separate editable faces, which makes this workflow much faster.

Projects sometimes last for years, and it’s not always easy to finish them in the same version you started with. Reasons for this can include new features that are now more efficient in the latest version, a bug in the current version that will no longer be fixed because it’s too old, or purchasing a new Mac where the latest operating system is no longer compatible with the version you were using.
A valuable upgrade would be for the development team to go through each tool and command critically, identifying and fixing existing bugs. Too often, a tool works fine in one version but then suddenly behaves unexpectedly in another. I understand that it’s difficult to catch everything, but a bit more attention and a faster resolution process could help reduce a lot of frustration.

reference files in 2026 refresh is too long

Hello,
Are there any known issues where a BIM model in Vectorworks 2026, using reference files and extensive data management, requires significantly more time to update references compared to Vectorworks 2025?
In our case, updating the references in version 2025 takes approximately one minute, while in version 2026 it can take almost an hour.
Do you know if this behavior is a known issue or if there are specific settings or workflows that could cause this difference in performance?
Thank you in advance for your feedback.
