  1. Wow - it's amazing what you can do with too many off days on a tour! Thanks for the tip, looks like the perfect solution. Ben.
  2. I'd love to see a tool for calculating bridle leg lengths and weight distribution (for those scratching their heads, a bridle is a set of converging steel ropes hung from various hanging points in a building to create a temporary point somewhere in between - or in paper terms for joining the dots from a venue roof plan to those on a lighting plot) Ideally you could choose the type of bridle (2 leg, 3 leg etc.), click on each of the existing hanging points, double click on where you need the resulting point to be and then tab through to adjust the leg lengths and required height. The icing on the cake would then be an info box for each point that would display load distribution as a percentage or a total of given weight, giving a better idea of how deep or shallow the bridle can be. (Angle of legs affect how much height you lose and how much load you distribute or create) Vectorworks seems to be the standard in the entertainment industry and I think this tool would be a great addition to Spotlight.
  3. I'm sorry for asking what is probably a very stupid question, but here goes. I want to make an empty folder in Favorites to dump all of the resources that came with VW into - stuff that I don't need but might. How do I do this? I find the resource browser great to use, but very un-intuitive to organise. Thanks in advance, Ben. OSX.3.8, VW 11.0.1 Ind.
  4. So I seem to have found the problem - a killer symbol. I don't know how but dragging a particular symbol onto the drawing crashes VW. I recently used it as a template for new symbols I needed, so that's probably when the damage happened. I'd still be interested what file sizes other users are racking up, and if there's a physical limit to what VW can handle. Cheers for now, ben.
  5. Help! I'm working on a project and the larger it gets the more Vectorworks crashes. I'm not sure what a "Typical" file size is but mine is up to 330MB and growing. I'm running v.11.0.1 on a G4 Dual 1.25Ghz with 1.25GB RAM. Most problems happen when I do something like dragging symbol in from the resource browser. 95% of the drawing is made with 3D symbols... Any suggestions? Thanks, Ben.
  6. Thanks Jonathan - I couldn't get that to work either, the best IE could do was to open the link in a new window.... Empty. Tried again with Safari - no problems at all! Cheers, Ben.
  7. I'm trying to download the mac updater but nothing is happening. When I hit the download button I just get the black and white spinning circle which stays up for as long as I don't move the mouse - the download manager does nothing. I'm probably missing somthing blindingly obvious - but what? Thanks, Ben. PS :- Im running IE 5.2.3 on OS X.3.5
  8. I've got Jonathan's book (PDF) sitting in the dock and refer to it all the time. I am totally new to CAD - I've had VW for 8 weeks, and refer to the book (especially the videos) all of the time. For me it is $100 well spent.
  9. Nice one, maybe you'd like to hang them on the 2km truss section I imported last week. I found that importing single DXF/DWG files works best, despite the note to the contrary, and manually set the Unit Settings in File (mm perhaps) - as 'Determine Automatically' usually produces mutants. I'm new to this, so there's probably a better soloution out there... Ben.
  10. Thanks for the quick reply Petri - you're right! The individual pieces are in group '0', which means I can go through my entire library (which I thought I'd finished yesterday) and reclassify everything.... oh well, back to the drawing board.
  11. Hi! I'm new to VW myself and am having problems with classes too. Most components of my drawing are 3d symbols with a default class (TRUSS). Object info shows the correct class, but when making all other classes invisible, pretty much everything disappears. The objects are made of grouped pieces, and the only thing visible in the entire class is one piece of one object - what's going on? Cheers, Ben. PS. Markoos, spend $100 on the "Visual Manual" that's available - it's worth every cent!
