  1. Okay, here's the only other non geek work around I can think of- save a working copy to an external hard drive - and have one machine which is *not* on the network but which has VW. Work on that copy till it crashes. When it crashes- hook up the XHD to the non network machine and restart using the non network machine as the startup and try and open it...If it still doesn't work the network isn't the problem... If it does work you may be able to use an XHD with it's own OS as the "master" file- and reboot with the XHD as the startup whenever it crashes.
  2. ..and of course, you've tried saving it under another file name- since your machine is the only one which will actually open the file...(just stating the obvious)
  3. Do you have one 9.2.2 machine on your server?
  4. Dave The lettering is white- the bg black- yes it looks correct. It looks grey on the glass extrude. Sending e-mail.... Ziska
  5. I posted this over in the general discussion- but Nicholas suggested I try posting here- so .... Illustrator file from client- with logos- imported to Photoshop and saved as psd (checking that the background is transparent) create imageprop in V11 (mac 10.3.4) options: use mask, constant reflectivity, create plug-in, transparent color color tolerance and mask contrast left at defaults Viewed in final renderworks the background is still seen as light grey- which is a problem- because this needs to look like cut vinyl on glass. My workaround has been making a lot of extruded polygons - but there must be a better way? TIA Ziska
  6. Nicholas, Meanwhile- I've made lots of pretty extruded polygon letters.....it's been a fun day...( was not the word I was using...but it will do...) I'll try the other forum tomorrow... Thanks for trying... Ziska
  7. If I understand correctly you may have to make them into 3D objects.... Ziska
  8. Geoff, I'm not in Chicago but I'll help if I can. The board is actually very good for any questions you might have (and so is the phone support) Ziska
  9. Nicholas, Yes- I'm looking at it in final R. Transparency is in the imported image-have selected keep transparency in the import- selected BG color as mask...where else am I not looking- what other button am I not pushing? (I know it's just some silly button sooooomewheeerrrre....) Ziska
  10. Yes, View>perspective>set perspective which is the top option (above narrow/normal etc.) Ziska
  11. Sadly, this rendered as a grey background in the negative space of the image prop instead of a transparent background. Thanks for trying... Ziska
  12. Katie, I have text (logo graphics) as a photoshop file with no background- when I import this as an image prop I get an opaque background (same result as a texture) any ideas how to keep the logo and have a transparent background? TIA Ziska
  13. Lamberto, Grazie! I will try this tomorrow. Nick, Thanks for the compliment- but I'm still gnashing my teeth over it... Ziska
  14. Is creating symbols in another color a way to get a black instrument into a renderworks sketch? (currently they are all light grey) Ziska
  15. Kevin, sorry- It's been a long day- and I should have posted the instructions with the pix In front elevation make a rectangle (6"x3") select sweep- diameter 6' pitch 23' Then make a cylinder with a 5'9" radius (starting from the centerpoint of the sweep) which is over 23' high- subtract the cylinder solid from the sweep- and you have the "rail" HTH Ziska
  16. The closest I've gotten is this: with a sweep As you can see there is still a problem with the bottom treads and the support. Ziska
  17. Draw a rectangle in elevation- select sweep- give it a pitch- make it 180 degree sweep (for the heck of it).... extract the top and the bottom curves (extract curve mode) - rotate the top curve (until it's no longer a trapazoid)- still in elevation- move the bottom nurb curve right or left to give the proper slant- then loft with no rail. (I suggest you find the top curve you want in elevation and keep tweeking the sweep until it meets that line - then go through the entire extract/nurbs/loft thing) What you don't get with this is your taper. It's a slanted rectangle- not one with a smaller diameter at top. The only way I can figure to get a taper and still have 90 degree angles is the tapered cone- sliced to fit. Ziska
  18. ? Something along these lines?- tapered extrude- then took two blocks out of it with subtract solids- then placed another tapered extrude within the center of the cone....Lazslo Moholy-Nagy would be proud... Ziska
  19. D'oh! (best Homer imitation....)
  20. I attached a photo by first uploading it to my ftp. It looks like you need a web address in order to post a photo. The image you sent me looks like a sweep- but I don't know if you can taper that sweep so that there is a smaller diameter at the top than at the bottom.... Ziska
  21. All new posts for the day in all topics listed on one page?
  22. It looked so cool in the demo- is there no equivilent to "fit walls to roof" command for Spotlight? Something to do with polygons joins and nurbs perhaps? My freestanding volute staircase needs this...."sweep" is not enough Ziska
