  1. It depends on what method of learning works best for you- for me it was taking a drawing I'd already done by hand and redrawing it in VW (at that time minicad). That way it's something without a deadline attached- which helps. ..and always keep the words of Robert Capra in your mind- if it's not good enough- you're not close enough. (meaning- get used to zooming in- a lot) Good luck.
  2. I'll admit I'm rather dim on this- but I thought a 3D loci had X,Y,Z coordinates- yet there seems to be no way to create a polyline snapping to those points without multiple re-edits in multiple views.... Just a "wish list" after all.... Ziska
  3. Double posting this to 3D and renderworks as the two issues seem linked for images: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=17;t=000513;p=1#000000 Stair on a volute- which needs the two square tube supports drawn: Image 1 shows the rise- and where the support needs to hit each tread- it's in artistic render mode. Image 2 shows the support in artistic render mode- unfortunately this is 4 nurbs surfaces -created from polylines in plan and then reshaped as a 3D poly in elevation then "renurbed"- to get this as a single object would be nice (haven't a clue- tried loft, 3D poly's , add solids, fillet, I'm stymied- all suggestions welcome) Image 3 shows the same as image 2 in final renderworks mode- a fairly unimpressive sight....
  4. Okay- there are a "bunch" of issues with this... Stair on a volute- which needs the two square tube supports drawn: Image 1 shows the rise- and where the support needs to hit each tread- it's in artistic render mode.
  5. Katie, I'm afraid the snap to loci preference only gets me a 2D snap- not a 3D snap Ziska
  6. A "connect the loci tool" unless there's on already there...
  7. Andy, Thanks, I think I need more coffee... Ziska
  8. Nicholas Any idea why the U & V degrees aren't giving me more "handles"? Created rectangle both in plan and elevation- no joy... Ziska
  9. Bruce, Yes, I understand needing a front elevation- but I was unaware of truss with lamps "attached" as a symbol. I've just placed the truss- then placed each instrument in the elevation view...maybe there is a problem I'm just not understanding? Is there a nifty click and go tool to do this which I've been ignoring all these years? ..and I have never heard the word "trussirror" in my life....so that's a serious question- what the heck is a "trussirror"? (okay- laugh- call me a scene designer- I don't care- what the heck is a trussirror?) Back to rendered plots..has someone actually asked anyone to give a full renderworks sketch using the actual lamps as the light sources? I've always found SL's strength in the paperwork-and 2D- not in the rendered 3D sketch (a missed opportunity in my book- but hey that's just me). Ziska
  10. Kevin, Cool! That worked.... Ziska
  11. Craig, "GS HPE upright on trussirror out..." Feeling language challenged.... Just out of curiosity does anyone do 3D plots? I've never been asked to do one.....especially since I would have to customize each architectural "spot" light source to every theatrical lamp....much easier to put up a couple of light sources in the right area pump up the ambient light and use the symbols just for "eye candy" and templates. Ziska
  12. Silly question... have you checked the size of your image?
  13. Hunter, I've tried editing the symbol from the resource browser- and from the object info- neither one worked when I went to "final renderworks" (Still makin' my own sweeps here...) ??? Ziska
  14. Katie- Snap to loci was turned off. A .pct saved in Illustrator imports as a black rectangle. Ziska
  15. Nicholas, Did the bitmap trace- very ugly result- criss crossed points *everywhere*. Andy dwg results in one big black rectangle. pdf imports as a jpg?
  16. Unfortunately the line art will not convert to a polyline. These logos need to be extruded....they need to become 3D objects. Ziska
  17. Tell me this is already a plug in *somewhere* and all I need to do is bleed my wallet and buy it... The ability to make a polyline out of a non-text object- like a trademark'd logo in an Illustrator file. Ziska
  18. Lamberto, Let's blame it on the browser realigning the script. Here is a quick example of your second script.
  19. Ha! got it....changed browsers....and then copied. Lamberto- this is very very nice.... mille grazie! Unfortunately I am now experiencing a problem lofting two of the nurbs curves together- it seems to be in an infinity loop- I doubt this has anything to do with the script...but I thought I would mention it? Ziska
  20. copied everything below {copy lines below} got the following error message: Line #141: CrG:=2*kPi*DistG; | { Error: Identifier not declared. } | { Error: Did not expect this after end of statement - missing ;? }
  21. Mac 10.3.4 VW 11 gets the following error message: Line #2: kr= 25; {radius of base cone} | { Error: Identifier not declared. }
  22. D'oh... or use a "point" light. You really have to play with the reflectivity and the bump on lit objects.
  23. Yes, but not an easy way that I've found- build the can- put multiple spots in a circular array inside the can.
