  1. Thanks Nicholas for the eloquent reply explaining what I have slowy come to realize (also read money and time wasted). Katie quickly pointed me in the right direction...that is when importing files in which others have already defined a class structure then don't bother with TM.
  2. I am a newbie on VW 11.0 and Landmark. I work with several different civil engineering firms and find myself importing a base file for my planning work. Once I import the file into a blank file I run through the Document Setup and try to establish Standard Viewports, Classes and Class Naming. It seems after that Task Manager is worthless. My base information disappears when i invoke a task from Task Manager and I get terribly bogged down in trying to manipulate the visability of classes and layers when all I want to do is draw a simple preliminary plan. When I try to wade through modifying class information I go deeper into the woods. There needs to be a straight forward Step by Step Guide to this (and soon). Prehaps there is one. Please let me know ASAP I can't seem to get my first little drawing out of the program because of this. P.S. When I go to print out the Viewport all the ACad lines are still color and set to #1 line weight by default. Should I have set these manually class by class as I imported the file? What happens when I export it all back to my engineer? They typically have about 50 classes in one of these files. I'm hoping this is all more automated than that. Still love the product...assuming I can get over this hurdle.
  3. Stan, have you dealt much with Setup standard VIewports, Classes and Layers and then trying to use Task Manager after importing a DXF/DWG file? I can't seem to establish a base data layer displaying infomation and then being able to use Task Manager.
  4. additionally, when I work back and forth between layers it seems that the class visability rests so that my base layer information has disappeared again..so I rest all calsses to visable (haven't drawn anything new yet)and continue on. As soon as I try and use Task Manager again I'm back to a blank screen. I've gone through Modify Classes assigning all AutoCad info to VW classes and I'm SOL with Task Manager...thats when I get bogged down for hours trying to manuliate classes. All the time I have no idea what my Standard Viewports will show. Sometimes they show nothing, or part of my new info. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  5. I am really struggling with Task Manager after importing an AutoCad file. I think I have a good understanding of the "intent" behind the layers, classes, viewports, etc. but when I import a DWG to a blank base, create my standard viewports and classes and then try to use it as base data on which to begin to build a land plan, hardscape or planting plan I become lost trying to use Task Manager. Every time I go to Task Manager it blocks out my base map or I don't find the obvious task like Annotating Design Layers. If I want to do a one sheet Site Plan in the preliminary stages of a project I don't understand how to get Task Manager to generate the necessary options and I seem to revert back to modify layers or screwing around with the visibility of each only to waste another day. There are a lot of questions I have related to this effort. Is there a training manual specific to this or some other avenue where I can turn to for help?
  6. Yes. I did install evry one of their driveers and it still crashed. Since my last writing you and I spoke on the phone and so far so good. I feel confident that the problem was that during my install some component of Norton Anti-Virus was still enabled. Se told you I was a novice. I'm now going to try and go back to the latest Nvidia driver to see what happens.
  7. When I've imported n AutoCad file and convereted my topo lines to polygons and then try to convert to 3D the drawing zooms out as the command box appears. It twice thumbnail size and I can't see to confirm the polygon elevation. What should I do? Running VW 11.0
  8. Still no luck. I've reinstalled the program VW11.0(clearing the cache) and downloaded Nvidia 53.03 and 61.76 and I still get the C++ Runtime error. The last time the error message read: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error Program: C:\Program~1\VECTOR~1\VECTOR~1.EXE This Application has requested Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.... I can't tell that there is any consistecy when it happens as to what I am doing. Any more ideas?
  9. I've downloaded 56.72_winxp2k_english_whql into a folder named Nvidia Driver there was a folder that came with the computer named Nvidia Display Driver but I can't find a driver version in the folder. There is a read-me file that says 56.72??? This is Version 11.0 I'm not doing anything in particular...mostlly running the learning disk and toggling back and forth to the open program but I can be jsut sitting there with them open and it gives the error and prompts to shut down. Boots right back up though and opens to same page.
  10. I just installed Landmark w/ Renderworks on a new Hp nx9500, Windows XP Pro Nivida graphics card and while working in Vectorworks I get: Runtime Error Program: c:.......vectorworks.exe R6025 pure virtual call Yesterday Katie said i needed the updated driver which I downloaded (the right one, I hope...under Quadro and then then file from the top of the page) from Nivida earlier today. Still I get the error message and the program shuts down and reboots. Wassup with that? Scott [ 07-17-2004, 06:19 PM: Message edited by: stmlandplan ]
