  1. Yup. one file for printing and batch print works. We typically have about 15-20 sheets per project, about 10-15 megs so it isn't that big. I could imaging that if a project were very large we could have a few master files to print from, Architectural master, MPE master, etc...
  2. So to print an entire set, you would have to open each file individually? ugh! We do the reverse with work group referencing. We have individual files for the design layers and then bring those in to a master file for printing. All our sheets and VPs are set up in there. That way we can have as many people working on a single project as we do deign layers plus one working on the master file. works great for crunch time efforts.
  3. Gotta love that number stamp tool. Just wish it would be editable after it is inserted via the OIP to change the shape/size/number on the fly. hope it doesn't go away with any future releases. don't want the legacy to become history.
  4. The scenario arises when I need to alignand stretch an edge of a rotated rectangle (polygon) with another object or reference. Easily done with a rectangle in the vert/horiz, not so easy with a polygon at an angle. Otherwise the 2D reshape tool is extremely valuable. Thanks
  5. Perhaps a consolitated rectangle tool using the rectangle tool with all its modifications and adding a rotation perameter to it. Sometimes I need to extend a rotated rectagle and it seems it would be easier to just stretch a side, similar to how a rotated text block can be stretched. Also, I find that the unconstrained dimension tool assumes that the dimension is parrallel to the two points that you click to start the dimension. It would be nice, just as the constrained dimension keeps it hoz/vert, if you could specify a specific angle as needed. I currently change the grid angle to get the desired outcome, which works great. editing them after also works great.
  6. live sections are under the view menu, create section viewport.
  7. Same thing happens here. I usually just create the tag once, reposition it and duplicate it to other walls as needed. no fix that I know of.
  8. That sounds intresting. The only problem is when two windows are mulled together. Using the window tool works great to show multiple units in plan/3D but when it come to scheduling, a window object can not have mult window tags so that they are labeled correctly. Would you have a separate tag for multiple window assemblies that have different standard sized windows? Also, i found it necessary to create new symbols for identical windows that are in a wall with a different thickness. I currently just label my windows manually using the number stamp tool, untill I figure out a better way that works for us.
  9. When I do a custom selection of, for example, type is door, VW selects all the doors, even in walls. The problem is when I try to edit a parameter in the OIP it just doesn't take. It seems like VW is already there but falls short just shy of the finish line.
  10. Are these changes to a symbol that is set to be inserted as a plugin object supposed to be updated to instances that have already been inserted. I am not seeing that when I do this. Am I doing something wrong here? It does however update any new instances I insert but not any that have been inserted previously. The multiple selection of objects inserted in walls has been mentioned numerous times. This is a great idea and am not sure what technical issue is holding VW back to make this a feature. The eye dropper tool works great, except when you just want to change a single parameter rather than all the parameters. Say I want to change the trim size on multiple windows that are different types and sizes. The eye dropper tool then is not a feasible option.
  11. It is off. I do not like it because it shifts all my text around when it is on. And the effect of shadows on an overlay layer is lost because the lines of the design layer do not appear as solid.
  12. We only put drawing titles in the annotations of a viewport. All dims, notes and other graphics that are pointing, referncing or tied to the drawing are drawn in the design layer. Something else we do is generate our schedules in the sheet layer so that we can compose a sheet. This seems to work fine for us.
  13. Not sure how to set it up to work. We have a laser printer that supports Adobe? PostScript? 3?, PCL 5c. Setting the VW options in the print menu to rasterize works for now. Thanks
  14. Does anyone know why I can not print out an overlay transfer mode layer with a Paint transfer mode layer visible at the same time as it appears on my screen? What I have is an elevation 2D drawing that I am adding shadows to. The 2d elevation is drawn on a regular paint transfer mode layer and the shadows are drawn with polygons on a separate design layer with overlay transfer mode. The result is very cool on the screen but when I print it loses the transparency of the shadows. Also if there are any suggested alternatives, that would be greatly appriciated. Currently I am exporting it out as a high res image and importing it back in to print. ugh.
  15. There is also a "number stamp tool" that doesn't need an object for the label to be tied to. It just creates a group with a shape and text block in it. It works great if you don't want to mess with the ID label tool and schedules/records. You might need to add it to your workspace if its not there. DanC
  16. Ahh. I knew it was something simple like that, I just couldn't remember. thanks a lot. much appriciated.
  17. Does anybody know how to change the default new file when opening Vectorworks. Sometimes I don't want all the symbols or formatting in my templates but would like my layer scale to be set and that nasty grid to be turned off. I know I have done this before but I can't remember how exactly. any help would be great - thanks in advance.
  18. I'm very interested in using resources over the network. We have specific files that we reference and each time it needs to be updated, I have to replace the resource file on each networked computer. There has to be an easier way. How are large firms using this program? I tried orso's directions using my template folder with no luck. Is there a known way of dealing with office standards? Thanks in advance
  19. I was about to post the same observation. I have found that switching the line weight to zero, then to the thinest line setting, the "part line styles" then work. It seems it also has something to do with the set line weight to class style in the attribute palette. hope that helps
  20. Any Idea/Hint when the "upcoming release" will be released? seems like I have been reading that response for a number of issues lately. just curious. Hope its soon though. ;-)

if its not there, make sure you have installed the plugin. http://www.nemetschek.net/sketchup/index.php
  22. I tried to impliment the Userfields# but have found that it is quite cumbersome to input various items on numerous doors. At least for now, it seems a lot easier to just input what i want in the data pane of the obj info pallete to a record format I created from scratch. Userfield# is at least 5 clicks of my mouse to get where i need to go. As apposed to 2 or three clicks with the separate record format. So is there a way to pull out the parameters of a door, such as door width, to a newly created record format? I presume it is more trouble than its worth. Otherwise, the way I have it now does seems to work fine. Thanks
  23. How about just doing a screen shot of the paused animation. Seems to work fine for me on a Mac. I just set the clock on the solar animation then render the three animations (summer, winter, spring/fall) then in quicktime, I paused the anitation where I wanted it and did a screen shot.
  24. Is there a way to get plug-in parameters such as door width, height, etc to update in a new door record that is created from scratch? Right now I have a separate record that has info like swing direction and door type, things that we use in our office that are not a standard parameter in the door tool, and have added to the door schedules. I thought about using the UserFields# in the data pane of the door settings but that means I would have to trust that everyone knows that each userfield is since I can not easily rename them. Also by having them in an abriviated record, it will save me and others from at least 5 clicks of the mouse per edit. Any thoughts? I have my door schedule working by changing the database headers to the aproriate record while still having the default door record with the referenced parameters. It seems to work ok but would like to not have multiple record associated with one schedule. any advice/help would be great. thanks in advance
  25. I know that the "None" and "Dimension" class are default classes that are automatically created. But now there are two other classes that are automatically created when inserting a door PIO, sills and ceiling main. Does anyone know why these are automatically created? as opposed to just setting a style class setting if i need them to be on a separate class. And since when do doors have sills and why are the leafs and door swing set to the sills class? This doesn't make any sense to me.
